I'll let other people here tell you about DSA armour, which weapons to use, how to adequately power your bot, etc. Just don't let it bother you if anyone posts "FAIL" or anything similar. Keep being polite, and you'll get respect :)
- DSA is when you don't click the armour tab after making a chassis. ALWAYS do this. - Use Iron spikes, razor tips, maces, and the occasional boxer fist. - Pretty much only use Nifties and SuperVolts for power. - Select alternate attachment points by clicking the green circles on components. - Use Snapper 2's for wedges. - Never use Snapper II's for weapons. - Always build to the maximum weight oppurtunity. - Always build your chassis around your components. - Only use shinies, rubbers, and grannies for wheels. - Use balance castors as armour. - Check out some of Sage's video tutorials for Snapper loading, eFFe, axle loading, and such. So... yeah.

- Stick a black in there
- Make the chassis less deep

I think part of the reason why we keep custom components (I won't call them "cheat" parts) out of Stock is because the very purpose of playing Stock is to only use the stuff that the good people at Infogrames hurried out the door crafted for us. We call it "Stock" for a reason, being that we only use the tools that it gives us, even if they are hidden. Bringing in custom components just defeats the purpose.
I have nothing against using custom components, until you start to use them on bots intended for serious combat. At that point, it's all too easy to turn your rickety SFTW into something capable of beating most Starcore heavies. They give no indication of building ability and they only serve to belittle the skills of the people who actually have talent. They're steroids.
But, if you want, use them. If you put your mind to it, you can craft some pretty awesome stuff. Just remember that: a) you're no longer building in Stock, and b) you can't expect anyone to take bots that use them seriously.
TL;DR: The definition of Stock is no custom parts, therefore we can't use them in Stock because, by definition, it is impossible for Stock to exist with custom parts.
