BEST ROOKIE: Iron Spaghetti/Scrap Daddy COOLEST BOT: System Flailure/Clickbeetle MOST FEARSOME OPPONENT: Diarrhea Of A Madman/Jules BTRSHDBBDDTBL: Haymaker/infiniteinertia Congratulations to our winners! You'll receive a PM shortly; please reply with your prize choice. FYI, my choice is the Nifty Battery/Control. There used to be a skin selector at the bottom of each page where you could pick the dark or light skin.
Personally I preferred the dark skin. But I can live with this. 2864

Nice work. Like Enfilad3 (Enfilade 4?) needed any improving.
Electric Red looks great. My favorite of the bunch. 2866

DSL TC Showcases / Reier's Showcase« on: October 22, 2008, 11:16:09 PM »
Yeah, Shuriken's got a very definite "stock vibe" to it. It's ALMOST realistic, though, which is saying something. I think you could do better than 6 razors for weapons--perhaps use DSL bars instead with heavier teeth.
And Zorro looks awesome, though the drive is probably way overkill. More batteries, lighter wheels would be a nice improvement. 2868
DSL TC Showcases / Kill343gs's DSL SHOWCASE?« on: October 22, 2008, 11:09:45 PM »
Very interesting design. I like it. I don't think I've yet seen a DSL hammer bot with that much weaponry. There's just one biiiiiig problem, and one not-as-big problem.
The biiiiiiiig problem is the way those burst motors are attached. Against any horizontal spinner, those angled shell plates in front are going to bear the brunt of any attack. And when they break, that whole hammer system is going to fall off. It's a weak link. You have some weight left--I can't think of any better use than to bolster the front armor and protect those weak links. The not-as-big problem is that the bot looks a little tipsy. This could be easily fixed by adding some side supports, though. 2869
General Support / hhow to make custom decals?« on: October 22, 2008, 11:01:15 PM »
Click the "Export Paint Template" button in the bot lab. It will save a .bmp in the Custom Textures folder. Then edit this file with Paint or, preferably, something more sophisticated. When you're done go back in the bot lab and click "Import Custom Paint".

Sorry I didn't get the plane hex code to you; I do have it but I haven't checked the forums since I last posted.
Eager to try this newest version and put it through its paces... (and also mess with your Flextop editor thing). 2871

I must say ATOM looks a lot cooler at full speed. You must have a supercomputer or something. It runs at maybe half that speed on my system. Still cool, but a bother to run.
I didn't notice that it sparks more the closer it gets, either. Nice touch. 2872

The DSL max sphere is plenty big to make huge bots. Just look at my bot Phasmatodean.

Here are the standings so far:
BEST ROOKIE Iron Spaghetti - 7 Enfilad3 - 5 COOLEST BOT System Flailure - 6 Diarrhea Of A Madman - 2 Rage III - 2 Enfilad3 - 1 Red Tide VI - 1 MOST FEARSOME OPPONENT Diarrhea Of A Madman - 9 Haymaker - 1 Red, Red, Green? - 1 System Flailure - 1 BTRSHDBBDDTBL Haymaker - 6 Smoker - 2 Ripterra - 1 System Flailure - 1 T-4 - 1 ThunderStruck! - 1 There are some bots with a pretty significant lead *cough*doam*cough*, but other titles, such as Best Rookie, are very much up for grabs at the moment. I guess Epic Flailure was an epic failure. Well, I knew what I was getting into when I entered. Hammer bots are tough to use, even tougher for AI.
What kind of armor does Lu-Tze have? It seemed like my flail was barely scratching it. 2875
Stock Showcases / Clickbeetle's bots« on: October 22, 2008, 06:51:28 PM »
Going off of the success of Frag Beetle 2, I decided to try and make a MW version.
![]() It's almost exactly half of FB2. Half the drive, half the batteries, half the razors in front, half the weapons on the jaws. The only thing about Frag Beetle Larva that's not half of FB2 is how good it is. FBL is fully as good as its adult form. Like FB2, it's good against popups, rammers, and horizontal spinners (as long as they have weak extenders to hit; it doesn't do as well against bots like Box of Pure Evil) and weak against vertical spinners and hammers. I'm continually surprised by how much damage just 6 maces and 2 iron spikes can do against bots like Vox and Death Warrant. Again, the maces are Sage's reskinned orange ones, same stats as stock. 2876

I said in the rules that stuff like this wouldn't be allowed, but I also said there's a small grace margin. I'm not going to reject a bot if it's totally realistic except for one spot where the wheel just barely grazes some component. That's just nitpicky. Edit: Quote from: R0B0SH4RK Edit: Oh man, my rank dropped down form 10 to 25 >_> *Cuts Smoker into pieces and them burns the rest* Your rank drop actually isn't as big as it appears, because several rookies were added to the rankings. The lowest rank used to be 54; now it's 69. So you were 10/54 or 18.5%. Now you're 25/69 or 36.2%. It's a factor of about 2 (instead of 2.5 if you use numerical rankings). And being in the top 36.2% still isn't bad by any means. Actually it would be even higher than that if you count all the people that are tied. 2877
Chatterbox / The Beauty of Math« on: October 18, 2008, 11:29:30 PM »
The point is that all of the quantities on the left are equal to each other (sort of). It's just rearranging parentheses. "..." means it's an infinite series.
I know 0 doesn't equal 1, but that's a fun way to make it look like it does. Here's another one you might have seen if you typed cheatbot2 in DSL. 3 guys go to a restaurant and each order a $10 meal. They pay the waiter $30 who goes to the register and finds out there's a special, $5 off your purchase. He goes back and gives each guy $1 and pockets the other $2 since he doesn't know how to divide it. So each guy ends up paying $9 for a total of $27, plus the $2 with the waiter makes $29. Where is the other dollar? 2878

Now that BBEANS4 is over, it's time to vote on bonus awards!
There are four awards up for grabs: Best Rookie, Coolest Bot, Most Fearsome Opponent, and Bot That Really Should Have Done Better But Didn't Due To Bad Luck. Click here for descriptions of the awards. The winners of these awards will all get to pick one of the prize components! You can vote for any bot you want, with three exceptions: 1. You can't vote for yourself. 2. You can't vote for Hazardous Contraption. 3. You can't vote for a ranked bot for Best Rookie. Voting starts NOW and ends in one week, on October 24. Vote like this: My votes: Best Rookie - Iron Spaghetti. I could say Enfilad3, but Scrap Daddy was less well known when he entered. And that first-round loss and subsequent climb up the loser's bracket was impressive. Coolest Bot - Rage III. 3 wheels. 'Nuff said. Most Fearsome Opponent - Diarrhea Of A Madman. That every single one of its wins was by TKO, and most (if not all) of them under a minute is all you need to know. BTRSHDBBDDTBL - ThunderStruck! - When you enter decently good bots in two BBEANS events, you hope to get at least one win. No such luck for ianh05. 2879

I was going to say widen the chassis a bit in the back (or else replace that big air tank with several little ones if you don't want to rebuild) and put some baseplate anchors in for some side plows or something.
Or, you could make a bigger chassis and add some wedges. That's a great bot, even with the unused weight. |
