Umm no, I believe that S32 was referring to the opposite reaction of what you're thinking of. Though why that would make a gunshot noise is beyond me. 2863

Are you sure it's actually a problem with your computer/internet and not Steam's servers? I imagine they'd be pretty crowded for the next few days.

Tournament Archives / Re: Placeholder Bot Ban« on: June 24, 2011, 02:36:53 PM »I agree on reshaped chassis shouldn't be updated. But I believe if you want to move internals to make it more combat effective, then it's perfectly fine. Oh yeah, moving them is fine it's just that if you decide you want more wheels, or to change your weapon type then you're out of luck I was considering adding "you can't remove baseplate components either" but I thought that might have been too excessive. Bottom line is this, we're shooting for a rule set that encourages people not to submit their robots until they're completely happy with them. 2866

I'm away from the computer that has RA2 on it, but if you're not in a hurry I can take a look at your files in about 3 hours from now.

Tournament Archives / Re: Placeholder Bot Ban« on: June 24, 2011, 02:29:23 PM »So if we still allow updating of bots, how does the host distinguish between actual entries and placeholders? How about this - no baseplate components (except batteries & control boards) can be added subsequent revisions, and you can't reshape the chassis? That way, even the "placeholder" bot will show evidence that the person was intent on building something with a functioning drive and weapons system. I didn't see the whole saga in the "Battlebots" thread but at the moment it looks like Freeziez set aside the 16th slot for everyone who submitted a placeholder bot, and whoever gets theirs in first is the one who gets to be in the tourney. If that's the case, that could be a viable system too. 2868
Tournament Archives / Re: BattleBots« on: June 24, 2011, 02:22:24 PM »You don't need to if all you want to do is change the skin map. You can open the gmf with a text file and just type in a new name (with the same amount of characters). Neat, that'll save me a lot of time in the future. Thanks 123. 2869

I think it's Sonny_Resetti, but I haven't been on in over 2 years and I lost my password data when my old computer died. The only game I downloaded was the free "Sam and Max" mission, although when I heard about the gravity gun I got really interested in Half Life 2. Does anyone know of good games on Steam for someone who likes storylines? They don't have to be recent, I'd say as long as the release date was 2003 or later it's good enough for me. 2870

What's going on in that pic, which one are you? Also I thought wedges and flippers didn't work in RA1, but it looks like the red shell spinner is slightly wedged up.

I went through your recent posts to make my judgement, I was really impressed with you in Scrap Daddy's DSL Thread. I saw the post where you said something like "what bot is that" and Thyrus said "idiot," and I'm thinking to myself "oh shi- this looks the beginning of a very unpleasant battle of UK vs Germany." But then I turned the page and saw that all you wrote was "?" allowing Thyrus to explain himself and diffuse a potentially violent situation.
So good job. 2872

Are the practice missions actually helpful in learning how to play? I might be interested in giving it a try now that it's free.

The game is free permanently, not just for one week so no, you'll only be paying them money if you want to buy hats and weapons.
New users have to buy all their hats, and they can't craft or trade - that's your reward for having spent your $20 on TF2 2874

Three big announcements, I'll go in ascending order of magnitude. First, my next replicas tournament is going to be a Celebrity Special, with the TF2 characters as the celebrities. Just like the real thing they'll be talking & shouting whilst the matches are going on.
Second, Team Fortess 2 is now FREE! Bully on anyone who bought the game already, but my brother likes MMO's, and he's pretty glad to learn this news. Valve will still earn plenty of revenue from TF2; hats and weapons that is. I think it's fair enough, the people who'd buy in-game objects for their real money are the ones who most deserve to be parted from it. Third, they finally did a "Meet The Medic" and it is EPIC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36lSzUMBJnc&feature=feedf#ws 2875
Site News and Feedback / Re: NC as Tech Adviser« on: June 23, 2011, 08:18:15 PM »
As contrived as this is going to sound, "It's not about the title, it's what you do with it." I'm not going to change my opinion of you just because your name is a different colour, you've well enough convinced me of your expertise already with the Movepixel tool.
Understand that I'm not knocking you down for asking for a promotion, just assuring you that I'll still respect you even if it doesn't happen - I can see that a lot of people were pushing you into going for this, perhaps making it seem like more of a big deal than it really is. Besides, getting promoted is entirely up to the bureaucracy, it's irrelevant that the aye's have it in your poll. You've got a unique name, unique avatar, you've made your mark with the movepixel tool, your tech knowledge makes me look like a caveman. I'd wager that people will not soon forget you, and in my book that's something to be proud of. 2876

Does RA1 even run on new computers? Can anyone attest to successfully gettign it running on anything newer than Windows 98?

The physics are fun to mess with. If you're playing as Razer in the Mars arena, let it get flipped or tipped, and if you mash the srimech button you can get it to rise all the way up to the ceiling. If you hit the ceiling you die, but it's still a fun glitch to exploit.

It's ok to have some laughs, long as it's done in good taste (Somebody, Scourge and GF were doing it right). He got his fame on Jackass, I think he'd want us to.

General Support / Re: [AI] The right sequence of numbers in "Weapons"?« on: June 21, 2011, 02:35:20 PM »
Say my weapon is beater bar with razors attached to the ends. Do I have to include all 3 components' numbers in 'weapons', or will the AI know to assume that if the beater bar is gone that the razors are as well (and therefore switch tactics)?
