Discussion / Re: Not just another "Lets make RA3!" topic« on: May 02, 2011, 02:45:04 PM »But we could use some free open source game engines.I've been looking into game engines for a long time now, and never found one that I liked. Hence why I started coding my own... It doesnt have to be something AWESOME comparable to Crysis or games right now, But as long as its better than RA2 itself its fine. But if some sort of effort gets put into a new game, it's best to try to make it the best possible But having a lil bit of progress is better than not having progress at all :PCommon mistake. It's better to have a solid base to build upon instead of "lil bits of progress" which you have to maintain for a long time (unless you want to redo everything for the nth time) Then the community will die if theres nothing elseThe community is long dead. The real solution is that Battlebots and Robot Wars need to become commercially profitable again.I agree. Another idea would be if a College/University team made their final thesis project to develop a combat robotics game.I was thinking of this... After all, I'll hopefuly start studying CS in a few months. I'd be willing to contribute some cashI don't know about others, but I'd rather start accepting donations after I finish something rather than before, as I don't want to feel morally obligated towards anyone. 285

It's a long, tiresome, non-rewarding, standalone process, especially when you need to write something as complex as a game engine (and it's what would be the best for a possible sequel). I would gladly do it, but I'm too busy with school at the moment. I do have 5 months of holidays afterwards, so there is a chance I'll start working on something. But I don't need ideas. I need research papers on physics engines, experienced programmers, time and luck.Code being written.Code doesn't come out of thin air. 286

Where would the soft body come in?That's the idea - a rigid body engine for coarse collision handling, and a soft body engine to simulate the internal structure of materials. I want to see metal bend, pieces break off, metal fly everwyhere. 289

Plus, the public SDK is way not flexible enough.*sigh*Source SDK. That is all. 292

*sigh*
Repeating it for the hundredth time. Unless someone writes a custom engine with a blend of rigid and soft body physics, we are just going to end up with RA2 with prettier graphics. 293

Nothing, except from a bunch of email address, a lot of time and being a retard. Also, if there is any doubt of someone's identity, they can post their IRC username on the forums.
