It's been a while... I've been pretty busy with BBEANS. But I haven't totally stopped working on DSL. Here's the updated Hypno-Disc. Most obvious, it's a HW now. And although you might not notice, I also entirely redid the chassis. The bottom part is the "real" chassis (with 5mm titanium armor), and only the top part with the spikes is a custom component. I wanted to re-use the shell from the old Hypno-Disc, but the sheer number of vertexes and the bad lighting on it made it easier just to make a new component. It's also scaled more accurately, with a proportionately bigger disc, and it now has fenders over the rear wheels. The skin on the disc is also slightly improved, with a cleaner spiral design. A lot of little changes, but they add up to make this new version significantly better both at looks and fighting. Just check the battleshots if you doubt how much damage those 2 teeth can do.

Will we still need antiballasts to build SHWs? Yep. Like Mad said, I can't actually change the weight limits. I might make a "stock DSL" antiballast that's -400 kgs, so using one will get you to 1200 kgs. It will also be in a big, tall donut shape (with your bot in the middle) so that you can't attach more than one at a time.

Only 2 entry slots left!
Meganerdbomb, if you sent in an entry you'd better re-send it because I haven't gotten it.

I think just saying "It's ugly" will suffice here. Lay off the napalm everyone.
Also, if you imagine that bot with just one pair of treads, it would actually look pretty cool. Perhaps give it 2WD E-tek drive with treads.

> CB tweaked FBS_1 to add a few more features. I think they're useful. Here it is: https://gametechmods.com/uploads/files/FBS_2.rar (Thanks, CB for your input. And sorry I didn't look at it until now...) .. Something that should be added to this. I just found out that in order for FBS_2 to work properly, you need to identify the correct ID's for the bot's weapons in the 'weapons' part of Bindings.py. Otherwise it won't register when it gets a hit, and the AI will stop spinning and try to chase the opponent when it's not supposed to.

Man that was a long time ago. I first saw robot combat in the second Robot Wars. I think the first bots I saw were Mortis (I still remember how Mortis punched a series of holes in the top of Panic Attack like some kind of machine-gun) and then there was a primitive sit-and-spinner called Spin Doctor. A white, wedgy octagon with a shiny mirror front. No teeth, it just sort of knocked bots to the side, but at the time I thought the idea was cool.

Thanks for posting this Somebody, I got the videos linked (they were actually already uploaded, just not linked anywhere) but totally forgot to tell anyone. The only way we're going to get other videos is if somebody still has them saved on their computer. Which is highly unlikely. Best. Music. Ever. That's from an old game called Hellbender. (I'm assuming you mean the IWGS vs. Wedge Tracker fight.) A free-roaming space shooter where you basically fly around and blow up a ton of stuff. One of my classic favorites. Outdated by now, but I'd still recommend it.

Hey everybody. This is your 8-entry-slots-left warning. 75% of the bracket is full. There's still a chance of going to a 64-bot bracket, but I wouldn't hold my breath. After a phenomenal start, the rate of new entries has steadily declined to less than 1 per day. That means if you really want to enter, you better do it quick! (Not because of the rate of new entries. Because there are only 8 slots left.) And I find it amusing that the first 3 people to post in this thread have yet to submit a bot. Ironic much? Progress: I currently have 12 bots AI'd and ready to fight. And so far, all our fears of an HS/popup-dominated bracket are mostly unfounded. There's no shortage of HS's and popups, of course, but there's also a nice variety of other designs. I think the only "main design" not so far represented is a hammer. Should be a good tournament.

Well first you would need to make the chassis bigger. I would suggest extending a portion of the rear so you can scoot the battery back and make room for a vertical Snapper 2 between the baseplate anchors and the battery. (But keep the Snapper II's in the same place so the wheel guards still cover the wheels.) 30 kgs... actually that wouldn't be enough to do all that. You would need to switch to a Nifty to get weight for the chassis extension, burst, and wedge.
Better keep the original version as backup if you do that.

Good bots. I wouldn't get too excited for BBEANS6 just yet when #5 hasn't even started yet, though!
Agree with most of Naryar's comments. The shell spinner probably has enough weapons for a flailing HS though (I'm assuming it's packing a double Mag under that shell?) You could get 6 iron spikes on flails if you took off the side panels on the shell, but that wouldn't be that much of an improvement and would look less cool besides.
And the rammer would probably be better with weapons with slightly more HP. Lightning spikes, for instance, or pointy tips if you had weight. But it's pretty good as is.

I get it. There would be a few problems though. The bots would end up all looking very similar (even more than they already do). And you can already do something similar with extenders and armor plates.
If I use this idea, it will be for the Race mode. Have a few lightweight but low-HP frame and armor pieces. It would make your bot fast, but if you crashed the low HP would cause parts to fall off, like a real race crash.

Awesome bot. I love how you did the wheel guards. Much more important on a rammer than on most other bots.
How does it drive though? In my experience, bots with drive on Snappers are hard to control.
You can get weight for a wedge if you get rid of one of those Supervolts. 2 Supervolts is overkill for a 4WD rammer. You can easily get by with just 1, or even a Nifty if you have to. (My MW 4WD rammer Tyrantula runs on 1 Nifty).

And you're on the forums since nearly 10 months ?
(picture of rammer)
(I would be able to build better but that's just an example)
Shinies. Turns faster. No casters since the T connector is INSIDE the chassis.
Surprised me by driving perfectly straight forward and backward. If you're going to do that then there's not even any point of the Snapper II's. Just use baseplate anchors.

Well for one thing it actually saves weight to put your drive motors on the baseplate rather than use all those extenders and Snapper II's.
Assuming the same chassis, though, the armor one looks the best.
Also, it's spelled "Consonant" not "Constanant". Do you want me to correct the misspelling for BBEANS?

Or you could just buy it. It's not that expensive... just 20-ish dollars I think. There's also a free trial version that lets you do 30-second clips with no expiration date.
FRAPS is what I use for BBEANS and all my other video stuff.

Don't understand how some creators have stuff like 4 KOs and 3 WBPs when they have a record of 1-2. That must be what separates people, but unless someone can explain what I mentioned...
Some people on the standings have 0 wins, but apparently won by points. Even the guy with 0-4.
That's because most of the matches in BBEANS are decided by best 2 out of 3 fights. So it's possible to get 1 win out of 3 fights, in which case it still counts as a loss for ranking purposes, but you'll still keep any KO's and such that you scored for that 1 win. If a bot gets a lot of 1-2 losses, it can accumulate a pretty good number of KO's even without actually winning any fights. Why not just count wins as wins and give a bot with a 1-2 loss 1 win and 2 losses for the rankings? Two reasons. One, much of BBEANS2 wasn't best 2 out of 3. If all the other bots got 2 or 3 wins for every victory, it would unbalance everything and the BBEANS2 competitors would be left in the dust ranking-wise. And two, getting two 0-3 losses REALLY HURTS under that system. Or even getting one 0-3 loss. It's no fun getting 6 losses because of a couple of unlucky matchups. Awarding just 1 win per match evens things out a bit more.

Half of my reason for going is to watch the HW tournament: http://www.buildersdb.com/view_bots.asp?eventid=281&classid=7
'bout a quarter is to do well enough to hopefully get funding for a MW build if there is a next time.
Last 1/4 is because I want to see if Apollyon/Interstellar Overdrive can beat a couple of 15lb shell spinners Ah, OK, it's another event being run with BB. Half of those 25 bots in BB aren't even HW's though, unless they've undergone some serious modifications. Diesector? Sub-Zero? Breaker Box? Emily? Looks more like MW through SHW with one LW thrown in. That said, there's a lot of bots there that I haven't seen in a long time. In any case, the event should be good. And I see there's even a Drumblebee in there... (well not exactly but close enough.) I guess now I can never make a real life version of my possibly most famous RA2 bot. Oh well. Glad somebody did it.

My guess to what's happening: Bulldog Breed and Hammer of Justice both use a txt file with the same name. All of HoJ's txt files start with "bb" for "big bot" (this was before it was named) and so do Bulldog Breed's files ("bb" for "bulldog breed"). Bulldog Breed's txt file is in Components.cfz, while HoJ's is in the Components folder. txt's in the Components folder always override the cfz, so Bulldog Breed ends up with HoJ parts. There's nothing wrong with the .bot file; it's a conflict of file names. And I'm guessing the name in question is "bbtop.txt"
Which means there are two ways to solve the problem. One, delete Hammer of Justice off your DSL game. Or two, rename the bbtop.txt in your Components folder to something else. You'll have to know what you're doing to do that, though. In order for HoJ to still work, you will need to edit the .bot file and change the name of the txt file in there too.
I'm surprised no one has encountered this before. If I'm right, this will always happen if you try to put Hammer of Justice in DSL.

Bravo to whoever did Quickman's AI. (Madiaba?) That looks like a hard bot to AI, and it drove wonderfully.
And Cataclysm is scary. The tribar design is genius; it almost completely eliminates the stability issues that plagued such designs as Haymaker, Pillar of Fire, and Pinball. Of course, the fact that the arena is perfect for SnS's helps too.
It would be nice if you could use Orbit cam for recording though, so you can see the bots better.
Edit: Urjak vs. Hazm@7 links to Naryar vs. Somebody.

Btw: Will the armored Magmotor also come in a drive version? Not yet, but it would be an easy modification to make. I didn't do it because I didn't think it would be useful. Most of the time, your drive motors are on the baseplate anyway and don't need more HP. If there's demand for it, though, I'll certainly make a drive version. Regarding Starcore: Good. You deserve to be ranked higher than 48. And I think in this tournament you could improve it (especially now knowing that button controls are superior to switches for spinners, which I think was your downfall in BBEANS3.)
