They won't be named whatever you named them in the Teams folder.  They'll be named Bot0, Bot1, Bot2, etc.  In order to find a particular bot you'll have to go through all of them and open them up in Notepad.  The bot's name will be right at the top.

I'm not going to think about new replicas until the old ones are in fighting condition.

And when and if I do start thinking about new replicas, I'm going to need more LW's and MW's.  I'll have plenty of HW's.

Underpowerage?  Looks more like it would fail because of exposed drive motors.  I like the design, though.  You get the offensive advantages of a crawler and the controllability of a normal bot.

Maybe you could go with less weapon motors and more spikes per disc.  Use the extra weight for wheel protection.

You know, I don't think I've ever seen a hammer-rammer hybrid with only one hammer in favor of more ram spikes before.  Very nice.

I'd suggest you angle the razor tips on the the end of the hammer more.  As is, it looks like they would hit with the flat side.  Which isn't bad, but it means the extenders are closer to the other bot and more likely to be hit.  Try and angle the razors so they hit with the point.

Well the front is pretty steep and RAD isn't fast enough to get you under enhanced HS's in my experience, but all the stuff you crammed on there is pretty impressive.  A DDT, 3 razors, a Supervolt, a ram plate, and a wedge--the only thing it lacks is good drive.

You know what it looks like, though?  An improved Bio Quad.  Switch the DDT's start and end points and you could call it Bio Quad 2

Incisor looks vicious.  Sort of along the lines of what I would do if I made a LW Chain Reaction, except I don't think I would have thought of angling the razors like that.  What kind of damage does it get?

Also, the reason the 1.3 patch failed is because you have the downloaded version.  The downloaded version is generally messy and there's not much you can do about it except get the CD version.

Although I think somebody made a UI fix for the downloaded version... not sure where it is though.

...Also no offense but i mean... That tournament is a yawn-fest.

In DSL's defense, I think a large portion of that is because of the arena.  It's so big that almost as much time is spent chasing the other bot as actually hitting it, and the force-wall feature just makes that worse.  I think the fights would be just as long in stock, or close to it.

(Sorry Mad, the arena is actually really cool, it just isn't conducive to fast matches.  Perhaps if it was smaller.)

Who won the HW H@zm47 vs. Reier, anyway?  It's hard to tell with the video all disjointed like that.

i submit an average bot, since i didn't have time to build something better in the submition period.

1.  That bot is not average.  Generic, maybe, but it's high-end, top-performance generic.

2.  If the current rate of waiting list entries keeps up, there's not going to be a 64-bot bracket anyway and you won't need to worry about it.

3.  Speaking of which, we're at a measly 5 waiting list bots right now.  Come on, guys, you're going to have to do better than that if you want a bigger bracket.

Also, progress report: I have 29 bots AI'd right now.  Almost to 32!

The old Aardvark looks like Blue Moon.  The new one looks a lot cooler.

I like the design of the #4 MW.  Reminds me of a real bot I saw called Collision.  I think I tried doing a design like that once, but it had trouble with constantly doing somersaults.  That kind of bot needs some front and rear supports to keep it from somersaulting.

Yeah that happens with most servos.  Usually it's an annoyance.  But there's probably some way to take advantage of it.

5mm titanium = :D

By the way, how did you increased damage? Modded the Flatmotor for more power or increased the DP of the teeth?

Because 259 is really weak right now... as most of the other replicas.

None of the replicas I'm editing use those hidden motors like the flatmotor and stuff, or the dark cell batteries.  They all use stock DSL parts wherever possible.  Where it's not possible, I kill two birds with one stone by making some custom part of the replica a motor.

For example, Hypno-Disc has 4 Magmotor drive and 5 red battlepacks.  The custom component on the top is actually also the weapon motor.  It's exactly as powerful as a Tornado Mer Gearbox.  That's where all the extra damage comes from because the teeth actually have the same DP.

In scaling up Hypno-Disc's size, I also had to scale up the teeth.  But I didn't want to edit the existing Hypno tooth because a lot of existing bots use that and they might not work anymore if I changed it.  So I made a new, 20-kg Hypno tooth and used that for the replica.  As of now, I'm planning on having it be a new stock part, along with the larger Hypno disc and the larger Minion disc.

I know that 259 and many of the other replicas are weak, and that's why I'm changing them.  Though I always thought 259 was one of the less weak ones.

Next up: El Diablo.  There's a bot that could really be improved.  It will also be a MW, so that should add some variety.  After I'm done reclassing all the replicas there's going to be a lot of HW's.  I blame Robot Wars, with its lack of LW and MW classes.

Nice bot.  Hey inf, if you're still looking for a Backyard Ripper for your AI pack, Mincemeat is a good choice.  There aren't many good bots with angled discs like that.

Someone named Hannah, presumably?

I like your bots.  It's hard to make original bots these days, especially original LW's.

The dual VS can't turn because the wheels are too close together and too far back.  You need to move them forward or move them out.  That would be a lot easier to do with Redbirds... with angle motors you would need some long extenders, which would be about as heavy as Redbirds anyway.  See if you can squeeze out enough weight for Redbirds.  Possibly ditch the baseplate anchors and make the chassis big enough in the back to fit them in (there's a good chance the necessary extension would actually be less than 8 kgs.)

The side hammer LW is cool.  I didn't think it could be done effectively.  Like inf said, though, you'd be a lot better off with a plow than a wedge.

Modifications / More freedom to shape chassis?
« on: March 26, 2009, 11:16:28 PM »
That error message is in the game for a reason, believe it or not.  I've made bots with a chassis that violates that rule and it can crash the game.  You have to be careful bypassing the chassis limitations.

That said, here's a way to bypass some of those restrictions without editing the .bot file.  First, check the "Rectangle" option.  Then clear the grid.  Then draw a new chassis.  Then, move the "Height" and "Width" sliders.  You'll be able to move the first four points you place anywhere you want.

I need at least 16 bots.  If I get more than that, great.  Just as long as I don't get over 64 and people start pushing for a 128-bot bracket... that would be too much.

Holey swiss cheese, I didn't expect such an uproar.

OK, this is how it's going to work.

For the time being, the bracket will stay at 32.

But I'll do the thing I did in BBEANS3.  Anyone who still wants to enter can send me their bots.  You'll be put on a "waiting list" which is a list of all the people that will be entered if the bracket is expanded.

If I get 16 people on the waiting list (enough to organize the bracket so two byes never fight each other) then I will use a bigger bracket.

Posting here doesn't count.  You must submit a bot to be put on the waiting list, because posting "I'm in" or somesuch isn't a reliable indicator of the number of people that will actually enter.

Also keep in mind that if you support a bigger bracket, you're supporting more work for me and you'd better be prepared to deal with a longer wait before I start posting videos.

So have at it!  Prove to me that we can actually get enough people for a 64-bot tourney!  Send a bot yourself and contact any old vets you might know! (I heard someone say that Phlox and Barbie are on Youtube a lot?)

Truth be told, I'd be happy to do a 64-bot bracket if it meant getting a few more of the vets in, I just didn't think I would get enough bots.  Apparently most of you think otherwise.  So show me I'm wrong.

[rant]
One thing I will not do, however, is exclude people based on their experience or their quality.  I don't want BBEANS becoming some exclusive, elitist "club".  Maybe it's the biggest and most prestigious tourney here, but it's always been open to anybody.  If I didn't let in newbies, we wouldn't have people like somestrangeguy (who was totally unknown when he first entered BBEANS3 as Destroyer), or Sage (who was still a newbie and wasn't yet making the killer bots he does now), or Phlox and Barbie (who weren't even registered on the forum when they entered BBEANS1), and the list goes on.  My point is, it's good to give the newbies a chance, even if their bots are SFTWs.  Just look at Phlox and Barbie's BBEANS1 bots and compare them to their BBEANS3 bots.
[/rant]

Now, one last thing.  There are only 3 more days before March 29, the official end date for registration.  I realize that's not enough time to get the bots I would need.  So, registration for the waiting list starts NOW and the LAST day you can enter is SATURDAY APRIL 4.

The bracket is filled and registration is now CLOSED.

Sorry to everyone who was left out, but you DID have a whole month of advance notice plus a month of registration...

I currently have a surplus of 3 entries that were left out, so I don't think a 64-bot bracket is going to happen either.  I would still need at least 13 more entries for me to start considering that.

Also, a sad day for BBEANS: Me, Firebeetle, and Pyscolone are now the only three people who have competed in all of the BBEANS.  The number of dedicated entrants really took a hit this time.

But there are still a lot of other good veterans (and rookies too, for that matter) registered, and I can guarantee you this will be just as exciting as any other BBEANS.

Expect a splash in about a week or so (after the last entries have had a chance to switch if they want.)

I always wondered why the long ramplates seemed to break so easily.  Now I know.

That is the 30kg ram plate that Naryar posted, and it does have 2400 HP when it should have 12000.

Expect this to be fixed in DSL3.  Along with the 35-kg snow plows which have some ridiculous fracture that's impossible to break.

Having built Cold Front I can tell that that bot's weakness is the exposed top.  Bots will just slide up the front and sit on your top where you can't hurt them but they can usually hurt you.

It's been said several times but having a higher, more vertical row of spikes (or axes, like on Cold Front) will increase damage (though it still won't be especially high), pushing power, and protection.

Of course, you'll be sacrificing invertibility, so if possible you should use DDT's for the wedges.  You can get weight by replacing some baseplate anchors with extenders.  If you arrange the spikes right, having the extenders get hit won't be an issue.  (And you WILL need DDT's; with most of the weight on that bot concentrated at the front, Snapper 2's won't be enough to flip it over.  Cold Front can just barely self-right with DDT's.)

Or put the top spikes on a servo, like on Event Horizon, so when you're upside down you can lower them and become invertible.

Also, that skin would be a lot cooler if you didn't say it was from Crimson Fury Xtreme.  Now all I can see is the misplaced edge lines wandering all over the chassis.  Perhaps it would be better if you added your own edge lines.
