Discussion / Re: 7 changes I'd like to see in DSL 2.3!
« on: August 18, 2016, 02:00:10 PM »
Thanks for the info, it's always good to see how stuff works behind the scenes. Still wonder how Mecha and Frenzy could get so OP(unless those aren't based on that formula which is most likely the case). Now if Office Starter only didn't break... oh well there's still Kingsoft and Libre Office.

As for irons/razors, ok if you people say so. It's just that I haven't seen them used anywhere and making them too situational doesn't seem like a great thing, then again better than having them everywhere.

I did remember two things I wanted to see, for one stronger axles. Dunno how IF does it(apparenlty they're thicker?) but DSL's axle load themselves without you needing to do anything.(could a invisible mesh that has the biger width fix this?)
FrenZy and MV discs are OP because they have normals and weigh a lot.

Normals weapons get a yuge damage bonus in DSL, basically the less angles it damages opponents at, the higher of a damage multiplier it gets. According to the excel sheet, it seems CB decided that the FrenZy hammer deserves a x2.0 multiplier, and the MV discs "only" deserve a 1.4x multiplier. They also get a weight bonus too.

For every 1 kg a component has, it gains an extra 1000 to it's overall efficiency multiplier, with 50000 as a base. A 10kg component has 60000 efficiency, a 70kg component has twice that. The Mechavore discs weigh 52kg and Frenzys weigh 25kg. While 25 is pretty average, 52kg makes a component leaps and bounds better across the board compared to lighter weapons comparatively. The current efficiency curve is a bit too steep IMO.

TL;DR prepare your anus for a meta dominated by normals and heavy weapons, and especially heavy weapons that have normals.

IF's axles are more stable because they weigh more in the .gmf. That's literally all there is to it.
I haven't taken a look at the sheet yet, but something that went through my mind while thinking about this is how those components are basically spike+hammer+extender(for frenzy hammer) and disc+2x tooth(for mechavore disks), I think that might be the problem why they were so OP, Frenzy Hammer only needs the damage value of the higher of the two and the health of all(or only extender+hammer) components, while mechavore discs only need the damage value of one tooth but HP of the entire thing.

So that's why you wanted them,I did see the other thread yesterday and do think that there should be videos, at least of some rounds.

Not sure that the switch to plastic for HP drive would be worth, especially considering I'd have to make the chassis larger. The problem with it ATM is the normals combined with the fact that it gets raped by HS, I think.
Thought that HP's would still fit in there even if I knew that they have a bigger collision box. Upon closer view I see that you made this chassis without the grid?

If the last slot if still open on the 23rd I'll fill it with a bye bot.
Working on something evil.
> tfw as you read this you get a PM from Wen with his 2nd bot
It's alright, the concept would've needed more fine tuning in order to work properly anyways. Would've liked it more if someone with their first bot got it, but that works, not really expecting my bot to go too far.

When I originally made that extender skin i thought it would map all down the side of the extender that had the AP but then that sh** happened and i just kept it lol
Oh I see, was the texture mapping changed for this or was it just a "try and error" until you got the line where you wanted it to be? Making a full line would definitely be interesting(another thing I'd like to try out is add a mesh that's only visible in botlab so there's no visible differences at all), if it isn't possible because of how the texture is mapped, I'd love to change the mapping once Serge releases first versions of his Blender RA2 suite(if that gets created that is)

Nice one R01, some good points there.

Rules amended as follows:

- No crawlers
- Bots must show controlled movement through 2 or more powered wheels.
- Max of 8 weapons on a single HS mounted disc, 4 per disc if using 2.
Nice, also added you for multiplayer.

Normals causing trouble?
Also what about switching to plastic and upgrading to HP drive?

Sorry to be nitpicky about something I'm not going to do here, but you ARE aware that your rules say nothing about AAM, right?
And also that this hasn't been moved to signups?
It also doesn't mention Crawlers, but I think the description of the tournament should make it obvious what it's supposed to be and Hi5er can ban every bot that tries to loophole around the spirit of this tournament:
Quote
I reserve the right to reject any robot who tries to be clever and get around this rule, or I feel is simply not embracing the spirit of this tournament, however, I must stress that VS, Drums, HS/VS Hybrids, Gut rippers, jugglers etc, are absolutely fine to submit, providing they comply with the above.

Good lads!

No joke entries Boto, I wanna see your physical heart poured into this.

Also something I wanted to mention, "A HS may not have a total of more than 2 weapons stacked per attachment point." The lines after this make it obvious but you might want to rewrite it that a bot can either have 1 HS tribar with 6 weapons or 2 HS tribars with one weapon each. As for Discs, I'd have the same rule as tribars, sure you get two more weapons but discs have a way bigger hitbox and are much more fragile because of it.

Also edited the wording slightly to make the HS rule more clear!
You already mentioned me and the HS in the post before that :P. For me it's clear but I thought that it might be better to make it clear for other users, also I'd allow 8 weapons on a single HS disc(since you can have 6 weapons on a single tribar, and tribars are way less fragile than discs). It doesn't affect my entry, so if you don't want to have that, I'm still ok with it.

Isn't hi5er's tournament heavyweight?
It is, unless he means the challenge board challenge(but I think that one was LW?)

Part 2:

Coming soon™, however No Promises™.

Maybe I'll remember to ask Sage to send me his stuff too, maybe.

Also will probably be renamed to 090901's and Sage's skin pack then.
Nice, I didn't know that it was possible to put a simple line like that on top of the extender, that will make rotating them a lot easier.(unless you used a edited version with different texture mapping). It's been years but what did you mean by putting maps on the mace? Was all done via different effects/GMF colors and not texture color before?

Custom Components Showcase / Re: Battlebots 2017 Replica Pack

If you make the new BattleBots season 1 and 2 Replicas and they look actually good, I'll pay you 50 Dollars. I'm not even joking.
Stop wasting your money on internet sh**.

Bot's look nice. Good luck with the pack.
Heh, personally I don't think it would be too difficult to recreate bots as long as you can have custom components.

it's a waste of weight to use 2 extenders to attach weapons like that on the HS, plus it makes them a lot more fragile and more likely to fall off.
Yes it's inefficient, but how else am I gonna get the weapons on. Don't feel like removing a weapon motor and putting 3 maces per tribar. I actually chose maces over irons to better protect the extenders. In the (single) test fight vs another HS almost all of the extenders were there by the time all the maces had fallen off.
Think he might mean how you can rotate them sideways(in the direction that the HS spins) and put 3 maces on that way?

Like this:

MEX
  MM

EX is extender and M is mace.

Who is this "TheRoyalBadger" dude.  Sounds like a more narcissistic version of Badger.

Anyway, nice juggler, but I feel the claws might hinder due to the normals.  Impressed with the good wedges on it as well.  What did you slip the game for that to happen?
Heh, thought about that as well when I first read this thread.
Also you should see the wedges on one of my(yet unreleased) bots, they're surprisingly very effective.

Well, it was bound to happen SOMETIME. (My apologies for bad drawing)

Liked it, also guess you accidently draw Craaig instead of Naryar. The banhammer looked like a alive block.
Actually no, craaig said nary would visit. It's weird, I know.

EDIT: After looking at the thread this is based on, it was actually Conraa who specified nary, not Craaig. I guess I kinda combined their speeches for this. XD
I know, I mean you probably planned Nary but accidently drew Craaig and then had to edit it like that? Or it was a joke.

Think you should add your music choices in the video description, it's a memetastic soundtrack.
wild card rumble - don't stand so close / dr. love
rumble 1 - one night in arabia / go go girls
rumble 2 - station to station / derreck simmons
rumble 3 - dancing / vicky vale
rumble 4 - night of fire / niko
winner's bracket round 2 rumble - love & money / za-za's

DL's can be found here if anybody cares

Edit:
loser's bracket round 2 rumble 1 - beat of the rising sun / dave rodgers
loser's bracket round 2 rumble 2 - heartbeat / nathalie
loser's bracket final  - burning up for you / sara
the final - the top / ken blast
Nice, I was going to say that you only need to update them for the finals now, but you did add those to the description(added them to this post now), would +rep if I could.

Am I the only one having problems with embedded youtube videos? Some jump back to the beginning(audio still plays for a bit) before jumping back. YT sure is known to break stuff.

DSL TC Showcases / Re: DemonOfTomorrow's Deadly(ish) DSL Showcase
« on: August 17, 2016, 11:32:38 AM »
Heh, I was thinking about building something similar or reskinning a bot to have wood like armor.
By the way can you press F12 and take a screenshot in the botlab?
I guess that the invisible "wheel traction" box of the Tazbot wheels is rather big up to the point where it clips outside of the chassis.(as far as I know, the game uses that hitbox to apply force to the chassis if the powered wheel is touching the ground).
Ironforge has this issue to a even bigger degree and has insane traction values, often allowing bots to be spiders and climb up walls(try it out with Tunnel Rat in the testing garage).

phil's semi-famous AI chart that comes with a bunch of .py files

All the .py files that come with Nar AI 2.7, IIRC some of them don't work.
What's the difference between 8459AI-Chart-2.3.rar and 43968459AI-Chart-23.rar? I checked your link and like the one I have it's still mentioning popup.py and missing it(like I said about a page ago), size of the rar also seems to be the same. I'm not annoyed, I just find it funny, was someone like "I'm tired of all those popups, there, file deleted, have fun"  :laughing one of the most used designs isn't there. Will check Nar AI 2.7.

Check the AI files that come with the game. All AI inherit the SuperAI which is located in __init__.py in the AI folder. If you don't put in separate handlers, then the code in the SuperAI will be used.
Also check out the Tactics.py.
Thanks, will do.

Contests / Re: Vote BOTM July/August 2016
« on: August 16, 2016, 05:31:21 PM »
Might as well write a little post here.
I didn't know if voting for your own bot was allowed(and even if it would be I would've found it cheap), lost by one vote, then again I wouldn't know how to feel if I won this BOTM.
I had this bot idea some time ago, creating a bot in the shape of the UK(you sadly have only 15 chassis points(serge's patch came after that) and had to remove some weapons to have space) and making it Iceberg like(hoped someone would get the reference and maybe like it because of that), however I didn't find it that great but when I heard how there were only 2 entries, I thought I might as well do something so that we have more to vote on.

The shape was rather small so I didn't really have much to work with, would've added other weapons but there just wasn't any space for it and I thought that any weightclass would be allowed. This one was also built and submitted way too late, guess I should be surprised how many votes it got.
