So... Because it doesn't look like a clamp, it isn't a clamp? Well, back to the drawing board, I guess. Sheesh, clamps are hard to build, looking at other clamps.
i will admit i was a bit confused too because what everyone is talking about is not what comes to mind when you say clamp (it really should have a different name)

the key part is that you need a traditional flipper system coming off a burst motor, then attach to burst #1 a vertical hammer system built using burst #2

assuming your first bot has the burst motors starting in the closed position and fire into the open position, i think in gtm terms that would be considered a crusher

how is it not a clamp? those are the starting positions for the motors right?

the components for the arms do resemble those of a side hammer though. since the goal is to trap rather than do damage, there should be plows, armour, etc.

Yup, that's pretty what I'd consider a finished product. Nice work.

Actually, it turns out that since the servos are closer together, you don't need the long wedges. Remember I only wanted you to lengthen them to counter single wedges, but you can see that right now a single wedge can't even fit between your wedges, so just make them as short as possible and it should be good (this may provide weight for another pink). And if you want to go more advanced, make the bot more symmetric by fitting the pink beside the black or between the DDTs, and also do a 180 on the DDTs so that the razors are concentrated in the centre of the bot

oops, forgot there were even more restrictions on popups

looks good now, just rotate the razors to face the same way if possible. and you may want wedges that are just a bit longer since any single-wedge bot with extenders longer than you will get under you. personally i would also get rid of a pink battery and switch to rubber wheels which are smaller targets, and move the servos closer to the centre so that the wedge extenders are protected by the chassis

Pretty decent, still underpowered though. You have enough weight to add a small battery beside the black (looks like it would fit) as well as add a razor to each of the DDTs using eFFe. It really shouldn't be very intimidating, just hover a weapon as if you're going to attach it to the extender at a specific point, fire the DDT, and click to attach in mid-air.

My personal preference would still be 2xSnapper2 with a wider+shallower wedge and/or armour though

Nicely done. Not much more to recommend, as I said one black will be sufficient for this weapon setup which allows you to shrink the back of the chassis (but keep the front wide). Extra weight can be used on armour, shallower and/or wider chassis wedge, or more weapons. Check out the BeetleBros website or Sage's videos in Tutorials and Tips to learn the eFFe glitch and rotate those razors to all face the same way, it will be very useful for all kinds of bots. And popups should start with the weapons under the chassis surface

Pretty good for your first! I agree with everything Gauche said, and want to add that you are at a weird place in terms of weight; either go for 249.0 or 399.0 if you want to improve the bot to its full potential.

How many batteries does it have? Might be a weird question, but in Stock you can stack components together so what appears to be 1 black might actually be 2 blacks. DDTs require 312.5a and drive motors require 100a which adds to 825a for this bot; black gives 800a, Nifty gives 400a, and small gives 100a so at the very least this bot needs one black and one small battery. But even for MW I think 2 DDTs is above-average for weapons; I would do either 2 Snapper2s (green) or 1 DDT for MW in which case a black battery is sufficient, and either 1 Snapper2 or 1 DDT for LW. Then you would need a Nifty for the Snapper2 or a black for the DDT.

In terms of choosing between armour and a shallow wedge, I think armour is more intuitive for a new builder and looks much better.

Half of the reason why I played it is just to recognize the Space Jam remixes.

ASCOURT is probably my favorite so far.
that name is AWFUL haha

there are more? i've heard a megalovania one, that track seems to get remixed with everything. i've only found one i really liked though

edit: damn ascourt bumps pretty hard, especially the section starting 50 seconds in

I would do 2 DDTs, but it's a design choice. 3 of them do draw only 937.5 in total so the battery power is sufficient, though I can't speak on whether it will provide full power for more than 60 seconds or so.

I hesitate to tell you to switch to 2 DDTs and 4WD because it will end up looking like every other HW popup. It's about uniqueness vs. (proven) effectiveness

Ugh. 0 votes again. Back to the drawing board.

I thought yours was a lot better than your entry last month, if that means anything.

i'm surprised you actually got 5 votes. almost enough to become 6 god

I thought it took 7 to become a god?
haha, at least with 6 you gain the power of photoshop. makes for great splashes

I still hate stock. This took hours.
(Image removed from quote.)
(Image removed from quote.)
790kg DSA
12 razors
2 blacks

How do I spend more hours on it to improve it.
Don't waste too much time on the chassis for HWs! Those 10-20 kg saved won't be doing much unless you have something specifically needed which is usually for the final version

Looks pretty good; this is just my personal taste but I don't like the blue snapper wedges or the upward-firing DDTs. Don't know if the 6WD is part of the bot's identity, but as S_M said 4WD would be the more standard choice. The plows don't seem to be doing much since they don't even cover the wheels, but at this point a chassis rebuild would help a lot. If you want to snapper load, the back setup could be done with one blue snapper and a T-connector; otherwise you could at least mount the plows using the rear attachment point of the blue snapper rather than using chassis space for baseplate anchors. Again, frontal armour in exchange for weapons or drive would be good

Discussion / Re: Question on bot types
« on: April 07, 2016, 02:45:00 PM »
Depends on what the arms are attached to. With the starting position like that, it can only be a clamp if it's servos

Side hammer = Repeatedly swing at chassis to deal repeated shots of damage
Clamp = Slowly hug chassis and hold on to deal sustained damage and/or remove their mobility (can be done with crushing servos, or burst motors that start in the "closed hug" position then go into "open hug" when they fire)

Off-topic: What's the second track that you used in Rough n Tumble v Adopted Nazi?
Killing Floor OST (Zynthetic) - Split Wig Shindig

Looks like some kind of Halloween event so I think they made it sound like Thriller on purpose

This game has a crazy amount of easter eggs...I always think I've seen the important stuff and then something new comes up. Just found out about this one, has some funny dialogue from Flowey and his opinion on Sans for those interested in the lore of the game

moar razors?

you could also upgrade some of the razors to irons for durability (esp. the outermost ones, or just add icepicks on the ends), add wheelguards, or add some weapons pointing out of the front corners to protect against hs. spike strips look cool; ramplates would probably be more useful though

A unique+well-built bot with a nice splash will always beat the meme entries. Combat effectiveness too, albeit appearing to be strong rather than actually being strong.

First off, dual flamethrowers would've looked nicer for the symmetry, and people always like snapper setups rather than baseplate ones (havok doesn't matter). Also, axes are ugly unless you skin them.

I fully believe this exact bot would've won if it had a better name and splash (background is way too colourful, gradients to fill text look awful, no battleshots), a nicer paintjob, and components skinned to fit whatever the theme is (if there is none, all-black or dark colours are pretty safe)
