1000 RPM is pretty good. Definitely enough for any stock bot. DSL? Somebody would probably have to try it.
So you have custom navigation on this AI? Would it be possible to just have the AI stop spinning for one tick whenever its heading faces toward the opponent, during which time it would do normal navigation? So if there was an obstacle in the way of the AI, it would try to steer, and therefore not move before it started spinning again. And if the path was clear, it would incrementally inch forward while spinning.
That was my original idea, but I haven't tested it. The theory seems sound. It wouldn't drive around hazards, of course, but staying in one place is better than committing suicide on a flipper.
Here's another thought for all of you: Bumble Bee with a melty brain.

Ooo, nice work getting a ram plate on a 36HS. Looks like regular Z-tek drive and a tiny chassis got you the weight. I would just rotate it 90 degrees horizontal so it covers more motors. Perhaps change it to a snow plow so it covers even more.
I would also switch the rear mace and the iron spike, so the weapons make a roughly triangular shape, like this:
O ||O ||==
Because that rear mace isn't going to be hitting much where it is. As a final touch, you could angle the extender down, so the iron spikes would nail any popups attempting to get under you.

If you're using fast drive on a HS, it's always a good plan to put the wheels on an axis with the spin motor(s) so you can do a sit-and-spin attack. This can easily be accomplished by switching the position of the weapon motor and the battery on H1N1.
Actually you could easily get that design down to a LW. Look at Shreddar from BBEANS3. Same weapon, less drive and less battery, but a LW.
Or you could use iron spikes/maces instead of razors. Lots of things you can do with the extra weight.
Broken Blender is good, I just think it would be better with the plow going the other way, with the wedge side down, so bots would have a little harder time going under it. Nothing major though.

Nice. Tactics.py is useful for universal tactics, but it would be a pain to edit for stuff no other bot is going to use.
Hey... you could feasibly give all rammers custom tweaked tactics this way. Because some are better at pushing, while others need to back up and charge a lot.
Thanks apanx.

CLICK HEREIt's called Sweet Poppin' Corns (a spoof on Sweet Cuppin' Cakes; R0B0 was right on) and it's a SHW AAM popup. Kind of copying that one popup ACAMS made a long time ago.

cones_txt.gmf would be a decompiled file. Some of the gmf's that come with the game also have decompiled versions.

NICE work apanx!
I've been planning on trying this very concept since I found out about plus.Arena.__setattr__tickInterval__(), but it looks like you beat me to it. How low do you have the tick interval set? How fast can an AI spin before it starts to outpace the ticks? Could you AI something like, say, *shudder* Somebody's Super SnS with a melty brain?
Another cool thing you can do by decreasing the tick interval: measure the RPM of spinners, and make an AI that doesn't attack the opponent until its weapons reach a certain speed.
The Insanity Arena is a nice piece of work too. I knew about the CreateArenaByName function, but I never thought about throwing the bots in the air just before switching in order to keep them from falling through the floor. Genius.
Perhaps you need just a tad less force, though, since that one bot still got thrown out.

Oops, I had the names of the bots switched around. It's fixed now.

Mammoth is a cool bot too, in a different way. It's a less original design (though still by no means unoriginal), but the sheer size of the thing--and the uncountable number of teeth on the drum--make it cool. I'm not sure who I'd pick for a Coolest Bot award.
Also, that last flip by Total Controversy deserves an instant replay. Havok-induced or not, it was spectacular.

Round 7 loser's bracket is up.
This was a good round. There was not just one, but TWO matches I thought deserved a 5-star rating. The first of the tournament! They're long fights, but worth every minute.

Time for an update. And a 1 month bump, but it's on topic so it's OK.
I just finished reading Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. Decided to pick it up since he's finishing the late Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, see what his writing is like. And WOW--the final Wheel of Time books are in good hands. This is only Sanderson's first book but you would never know from reading it, except for the frequent misspelling of "thought" as "though", but that doesn't affect the quality or originality of the story (which is high). Recommended for all fans of fantasy who want a break from Tolkein-esque adventures.
Also, Tad Williams is now officially my favorite author.
His standalone fantasy The War of the Flowers is what did it. It's original, compelling, wondrously detailed, and the ending couldn't have been more perfect. I would describe it as Stephen King meets Harry Potter.
Then his four-book Otherland science fiction series just reinforced my opinion of him. This story can only be described as EPIC. It contains joy, sorrow, and plenty of humor, and is both bizarre and at the same time totally serious and believable. The cast of characters is massive, and they're all truly individual, no cookie-cutter stereotypes. I don't know how he does it. It's about a lifelike virtual-reality network, but any similarity to The Matrix ends there. There's really nothing else like it.
So, yeah. I just had to share that. Because anyone who likes fantasy/sci-fi should read those books.

That is most definitely not a roach, it is a Longhorned Beetle, I'd say in the genus Prionus. They don't bite and they're not pestiferous so there's no need to worry. Nice find; big beetles like that are cool.

Heeeey... I see some of DinoVenger's bots were there. I didn't know he was still fighting. And it looks like he's doing quite well... Wheel Stealer 2 and LiveWire both look like tough bots.
Congrats on the success with Fangus. It will be tough for me to ever get back into real robot fighting with that kind of competition lurking about...

Very nice hammer bot, looks good at pinning bots both horizontally and vertically, and I like the iron spikes as extender guards. Only thing I would do is put the ram plates in the center and the razor tips on the sides of the front, because the razors have more total HP, and the sides get hit more often by HS's.

And what's up wit all the bumping around in round 1 and 2? The instant replay makes it clear. Vela hit the plow on the back of CTK, and the force of the impact tipped CTK on its back. It's all about leverage.

But I know that after this BBEANS is done, the stock pack from 1 3 and 5 will be released Yep, and it's going to include more than just the bots too. It will be bundled with every arena used in BBEANS so far, have new menu music (guess what it will be!), and will feature a couple new tournament events in the Team HQ. For example, there will be a BBEANS1 event, 1 vs 1 in the RA2T2 arena. With the BBEANS1 AI, it will be almost like you're actually competing in BBEANS! And then there will be a BBEANS3 event in the Small Arena, and so on. Maybe Rumble events as well. Oh, and of course no AI pack worth its salt is complete without a few hidden easter eggs... Needless to say I'm excited to get this pack released. It won't be too big or complicated (most of the work is already done) but it's going to be good. AW/BW is a likely candidate for the BBEANS after the DSL pack is released. But that's a LONG way off yet. I was also thinking about a Stock tournament with the realistic rule, just because it would force people to take a completely different approach to bot building. It would be interesting to see what they came up with.

I could have sworn I heard the complete opposite. On the old forums I remember someone said that batteries don't effect weight distibution at all. Build a long hot dog chassis with 2 slim wheels in the middle, like a seesaw. Put batteries in one end and see what happens compared to a balanced setup. Also, I gotta try making a good ballast wedge bot.

so uh, weren't the flippers sposed to throw you into the blade, not outside the arena? It depends on the bot. MOST bots will land on/near the blade (textbook example: PitA 8 vs. Absolute Chaos). But for some reason Bumble Bee is just a good flier. I can't imagine why lack of true wheels would send a bot across the arena instead of only halfway, but that is what it seems to be. Maybe something to do with grip and resistance? Seems like when you get flipped, if you land on your wheels, your bot stops pretty quickly, but if you land on a component, your bot bounces and skids. At least that's what I've noticed. T-800 flying out of the arena is easier to explain. It had lost all of its weapons by that point in the fight, which is nearly half its weight, so obviously it will fly farther.

Time to do some beating of a dead horse... Here are the .bot files for Symbiote, for your fighting pleasure. https://gametechmods.com/uploads/files/Symbiote.zipI wish the bot exchange would get finished... Warning: for most bots, you need to do a little Python monkey business in order to get the bots joined quickly enough. No new bots to post, but I have some half-finished projects and a few ideas that you may eventually see. A couple of somewhat original HS's (for an HS at least) and an idea for a Heaven's Sawmill 2.

This must be why Insult to Injury does so well with just a chassis wedge. It has about 5 Supervolts or something (which affect weight distribution just like ballasts) as well as regular ballasts in the front of the wedge.
I never thought I'd hear the words "ballasts" and "useful" in the same sentence, but if you can make a bot that gets under NWB every time... ballasts may finally become useful.
