Plastic is by far the best armor in the game.  Titanium doesn't even come close.

Lol, and there's also NAR AI v2 coming up on the 10th, and we can be sure that the bots there will be even stronger.

BSG has 6000 hp, they don't need protection in the LW division.

You might be able to upgrade your armor to use up the remaining weight.  Even if it's aluminum or steel it's still better than having unused weight.

So MS doesn't matter on burst motors?  Gotta take note of that (and update my popup accordingly).

There are some setback with my team.  The "crawler" have some movement problems.  Sometimes after major impact the wheels simply stop responding.  My guess is the game is suppose to reregister the wheels after it touch the ground (which it never does).  I have a popup to replace the MW, but I would need a new HW to replace the crawler.

Thanks.  I will send you the update for my second team as well as my third team after some testing (FPSInvertDir instantly made all my SnS better).

And the other one is just a slightly modded FBS.py that changes spinning direction when inverted - i think i posted in in the RAW 2 thread (since i made it for Iron Storm 5 so the maces spin the right way). I just removed a line that handles the spinning direction if the bot is inverted.
Can you send me a copy of this version?  I think my SnS can benefit from always spinning at the razor side.

Well, keep in mind that "chassis" is also a component, and component count starts at 0.  My guess you will have more success if you search 27.

Another thing is that it should be at the end of the preview image.  So look for the last line of those rubbish and keep scrolling to the right until you find the number.

Agree with Urjak.  I don't see how "light materials" are so ruining the game that it requires vigorous enforcement, especially when it's nothing more than the parts' name.

Besides, polycarbonate extenders really can't hold the dual perm and 200kg weapon well, a light tag and the whole thing collapse.

Looks good.

Maybe you can cover your chassis a bit more, mostly the front  You might also want to consider changing the steel extender connecting the wheels to dsl bar.  I mean you got double side panel to protect it and the way I see it, the flipper segment is more likely to break than the bar.

Chatterbox / Re: DEBATE: Swear words
« on: December 28, 2009, 05:07:00 AM »
That is correct. They just are offensive. Why is showing a middle finger offensive? Because we have made it, as a society, that way. Same with swear words. There doesn't NEED to be reason if the reality of it is that there are people who think of them as offensive, and nearly everyone looks at people differently depending on if they swear or not. Would people have voted for Obama if all of his speeches were full of cussing, swearing, and religious or sexual references? Probably not. He has a controlled manner about him, and that is why he is such a good speaker.
I can offend people without using a single profane word, conversely I can use profanity (such as in holy "sh**") without necessarily being offensive.  So offending people is not exclusive to profanity and thus a non unique harm.

Therefore, what you are advocating is the monitoring of people's intent, not a specific sound or a specific combination of alphabets.

As for Obama, I did not vote for him, his speeches are too full of filler words and too little in substance.  That aside, George W Bush got elected twice, surely you are not telling people to imitate his way of speech just because "people have voted for" him.

Well, could just be me, but I barely got enough stability out of a 40 cm angle skirt on top of a 200x20 dsl bar.  You are right though DSL bar does have less HP per kg.  There's also angled side panel to consider, they can reach 80 cm for only 7 kg and come with 2800 hp.

I personally like dsl bar on 40 skirt more than 120, because you are shifting more HP to dsl bar without losing anything on the skirt.

Right, speaking of that, the "destroyer" bot is part of the NAR AI 1.1.  If you are interested you can find it here

Be sure to backup your existing DSL before applying this patch, just in case you want to convert back, or for any technical reasons.

120 cm skirts are not very good for stabilizer since 120 cm tends to be too short.  Being able to turn quickly or drive forward without tipping over is a very important part of Vertical Spinners.  Try using DSL Bar or overkill blade.

Make a new txt file, name it antiballast.txt

next, copy and paste this into the txt file, save, and put it into Robot Arena 2/Components

Quote
name = Anti Ballast -400
preview = smartzone_1smallmediumlarge_preview.bmp
dir = smart-zones
model = smartzone_1small.gmf
styles = -400
type = power
base = SmartZone
passthru = smart_zone
description = Anti Ballast -400
standard = 1
mass = -400
sort = 140

This is a -400 kg smartzone, add it when you need more weights, remove it before running the bot.

well, I assume if someone want a smaller wheel they would have went for vlad.  So between granny and tornado when the purpose is to be bigger than vlad for invertibility I would say granny is better.  The thing is collision box doesn't seem to affect how close your bot is to the ground  (S3 and Small motorcycle wheels are good examples, they have enormous collision relative to their image size).  My guess is that the collision can go through ground but not the image.  What is does affect is rather or not the wheel moves the bot.  While the affect of the hexagon shape to wedge isn't noticeable and would requires further testing, it does have less of those "wheel not responding" problems as the collision is touching the ground more often.

You probably would want Tornados over Grannies. Same weight but grippier.
Tornados and Slipper has the same grip, or 1.3.  And Slipper has superior collision box by far.

Discussion / Re: Realistic rules for DSL
« on: December 27, 2009, 02:55:54 AM »
The problem is that the game mechanics isn't exactly ultra realistic, as such, it isn't easy to enforce ultra realism.  Aside from things like stacking, BFE, or a component cutting through entirely, other stuff are somewhat difficult to enforce.

Through I agree that the "cutting through" rule is really being pushed to the breaking point (such as for many popups).  The only rational is to argue that the razor is actually not triangular, but flat.

Hi, can you tell me the new deadline for NAR AI?  I have about 2 more bots to go before finishing my third team so it will be nice to know when I need to get it done to be included in NAR v2.
