and a time where i felt like Venko. theres pretty much no useful reason for stacking this unless for a lw side hammer.
(Image removed from quote.)

What a coincidence.  I had to stack Snappers like that to make Frag Beetle Larva (a MW side hammer).

The LW looks good.  I wonder whose chassis is lighter, yours or inf's?  The tall one or the long one?

Chained motors COULD be done and work (although not easily) in real life.

Except nobody would ever do it anyways because it's much easier, stronger, and more efficient to just use one big motor.  Personally I consider chaining motors unrealistic and wouldn't allow it in BBEANS.

Do you have the 2.1 patch?  I could swear I included this fix with the DSL 2.1 patch.

Are you also doing a DSL version after BBEANS 6, and I know you have lots on your plates right now so, I might try some.

Yes, I will make a DSL pack after BBEANS6.  It might not be as fancy though because DSL3 will be coming out.  I'm pretty sure BBEANS6 will still be DSL2 though.

Yes.  You get half a virtual cookie because you didn't know what episode it's from.

I don't know how to do a successful image map (Perhaps some help from you click?)

I thought you got that worked out.

Well, here's how you do it anyways...

First you need to make the map itself.  Don't worry about the image yet.  The code for a map looks like this: (I am copying this code from the BBEANS brackets)

Code: [Select]
<map name=&quot;wbracket&quot;>
<area shape=rect coords=&quot;5,0,115,35&quot; href=BloodShed_Vela.wmv>
</map>

Couple things to pay attention to.  First, you need to name the map in the tag.  You will reference this later in the image.  I named my map "wbracket" for winner's bracket.

Then there is the "coords" parameter followed by four numbers.  These numbers delineate the rectangle the users can click inside.  The first two numbers are the x, y coordinates of the upper left corner of the rectangle relative to the image dimensions.  So the upper left corner of the rectangle that links to BloodShed_Vela.wmv is 5 pixels from the left edge of the image and 0 pixels from the top (the point 0,0 is in the upper left corner of the image).  The third and fourth numbers are the x, y coordinates of the lower right corner of the rectangle.  You don't need to worry about the lower left or upper right corners; all the computer needs to figure out the dimensions of the rectangle are the upper left and lower right.

Finally, there's the "href" at the end.  Just do this the same way you do a regular hyperlink.  Link to whatever file you want; the rectangle you just defined with those four numbers will become a clickable link in your image.

If you want to make multiple link rectangles in one image map, just do it like this.

Code: [Select]

Now that the map itself is done, all you need to do is apply it to an image.  This is the easy part.  Just add usemap="#mapname" into the tag.

So the tag for the BBEANS winners bracket would look like this,

Code: [Select]

because I named the map "wbracket" in the tag.

Make sense now?

After doing some work on the BBEANS AI pack, I have realized what an incredibly daunting task it is to come up with 50 unique team logo images.

Therefore, I am now accepting submissions from anyone who wants to contribute.  Just look at the list of teams below, pick one (or several) that doesn't have a logo yet, and post your logo here.  I will look through the thread and use the logos that I like the best in the BBEANS AI pack.

Guidelines for team logo images:
-it can be no smaller than 128x128 pixels.  Ideally, it should be exactly 128x128, but I can resize it down if it is bigger.

-try not to use blatantly copyrighted images.  It probably doesn't matter if your logo does involve a copyrighted image, but I still prefer originality.  At least crop it and add some text or something to alter it a little bit.

-try to stick with the theme of the team.  I probably won't use generic logos of tornadoes with "PWND" stamped in big red block letters at the bottom, and stuff like that.

Here is a list of the 50 teams in the BBEANS AI pack, along with logos:
(You may notice there are only 3 bots on a team.  That is intentional; I figure that with 3 tournaments represented in the pack, it's just easier to organize with 3-bot teams instead of 6-bot teams.)

(You may also notice some bots you don't recognize.  That is because I have AI'd and included all the extra bots I could still find--bots that were switched out for new versions, new bots that were submitted too late and never used, and even some bots that were rejected for being illegal.)

ANYWAYS.  The point is, flail spinners do exist in real life.  We should stop flooding the N00b Warz thread now.

I know what it isn't (Not a scarab neither a carabid - too slow), but not what it is...

Could be a darkling beetle (family Tenebrionidae).  Possibly one of the ironclad beetles in that family; they're characterized by having fused elytra (wing cases) and very hard bodies.  But I'm not sure.  The pic is a little blurry.

Cool and original bot (Mercenary).  But those plows are doing very little good there--the wheels and Snappers and chassis are still exposed.  They would be much better about 20 or 40cm further forward.  They would also protect the pistons there too.  Maybe take off some of those blades on the wedges?  I see you have two stacked.

You can try copying some of these bots:

The important thing is having a wedge, so all the force of the weapon is directed into flinging the other bot upward, instead of pushing forward.

flail spinners will not be allowed, because they are not ever implemented in real life.

Also for the record, there is a SHW called Stump Grinder that has a horizontal spinning bar with flailing ends.  Looks kind of like a green Tombstone with flails.  Then there was another SHW called Thresher that had dual vertical spinning bars with flails.  I saw them both compete at Mechwars.

Then there was Scrap Daddy Surplus in Battlebots that totally should have beaten Wedge of Doom--it was a SnS with a ball and chain.

So they're rare, but they DO exist in real life.

Edit:  Oh, and also there was one version of Tortoise (a SHW shell spinner in Battlebots) that had flails.

Switching to plastic will not get you 14 kgs.  You might be able to make the hammer arms 20cm longer, but 6 razors is out of the question.

I would say go with plastic if it's better with longer arms though.  If a bot hits the chassis from the front, it means the weapon is gone and you're dead anyway and having DSA won't matter, and if a wedge gets under you, you're also dead anyway and having DSA won't matter.

I like both of those bots.  Quite original.  What's the spiked club for on the MW?

2436
Discussion / How do you make a decent Hammer bot?
« on: September 06, 2009, 12:35:53 AM »
What's important:

-Wedges, like everyone already said.
-Low center of gravity.  The bigger and heavier your hammer, the wider and longer your bot has to be to keep it stable.
-Trapping capabilities.  There are two parts to this.  One, you need a broad V-shaped front to keep bots from slipping to the side.  And two, you need some kind of overhead stopper to keep bots from climbing up the front of the bot and hitting the hammer arm.
-Good armor.  Since the front of hammer bots is usually neither wedged nor protected by the weapon, it needs extra protection.

There are exceptions to those rules, of course, but generally that's what you want on a hammer bot.  For instance, if you're using a light hammer as a secondary weapon in addition to ram spikes or somesuch (Vetearn Destroyer is a good example) then wedges and trapping capabilities aren't as important.

Discussion / Botfile Stacking
« on: September 06, 2009, 12:07:24 AM »
I will admit that using .bot file editing to stack 2 Supervolts is reasonable.

The problem is that it's a slippery slope.  There is a TON of stuff you can stack with enough time and a lot of patience.  As Sage said, apparently someone, somewhere made a bot with 3 Supervolts and a control board all stacked.  But that happens so rarely that it's effectively impossible.  However, by legalizing .bot file editing, you open the floodgates to that kind of stacking in any old bot, because it is proven to be possible to do in the bot lab.

Similarly, it is probably possible, in theory, to stack a Nifty, a control board, and 4 baseplate anchors in a chassis just big enough for a Nifty.  But it's so hard that nobody would ever do it, except with .bot file editing.

If somebody wants to allow .bot file editing in their tournament that's their business.  It could actually make for some interesting designs.  But it should never be accepted as the standard for bot building, nor will I ever allow it in BBEANS.  For bots with stacked Supervolts I'll just have to trust the builder's honesty, but I will get a little suspicious if I get something like the above mentioned examples.

Oh, and
Quote from: roboman2444;63671
i wonder if u botfile edit you can make 2 chassis on 1 bot.

You can.  The second chassis has to be a crawler though, since magic mobility only applies to the first chassis.  And there were some other slight problems that I don't remember right now.  It's a bit messy but it works.

Reier, use apanx's exporter for finding out the names of custom parts.  Then you can edit the .bot file to replace them with stock parts.  I've gotten a few bots for BBEANS where I needed to do that.  As long as the custom parts use the same gmf as stock parts, there's no problem.

Quote from: Pwnator;62856
Darn! I was about to do that this December. Oh well, gotta tweak the rules for now. XD

Go on ahead, if you were going to do a tournament like that.  It's not like I'll get around to it within the next two years anyway.  Besides, I still have other tournament ideas for after BBEANS6.  AW's and BW's, for instance.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention "No DSA" as part of the Classic Bots rules.  That should be an important one.  Titanium and steel, here we come!

Yay, I  survived.  I've entered plenty of original-but-not-really-competitive bots in tournaments lately; I'm ready for a few wins now with 86...

I must say I was impressed with Get Hammered.  That bot packs a punch; if only it was more stable it would be a serious threat.  In any case, I think it might have been able to beat Karrot Krammer if 86 didn't interfere.

And Longhorn losing in the first round?  Inconceivable!
