titanium and aluminum are roughly the same weight. I was using .125 aluminum before. now I'm using .06 titanium which is roughly 1/2 the thickness.

Look at my rod, it's about 9 inches long, and 3/4 inches thick, and once I've worked on it, I will use it to ram into others.

So I decided to buy a Scot Bots kit from Tony Smith and Jamie McHarg, but anything without a weapon would be crap so I got this cut from a bar of aluminium tonight, with the intention of working on it tomorrow night, grinding one end to a point and threading the other end on a lathe.

I'm planning on making the spike interchangeable with a scoop which will be made from scrap bits of metal and wood lying around the Techie storerooms, and a chain with a padlock or something at the end as some form of flail.

I don't expect this to be the most promising or damaging of weapons or indeed robots, but it's a start, and it'll still exceed Stratos by far.

will it be a shish-kabutt lifty thing or just a static spike?
Static. None of my weapons will be powered.

lllllaaaaaaaammmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeee

I have no idea why you would build that (unless there were another Not Quite Replica Wars coming up)... but the handle needs to be on a piston.

Someone confused NQRW with ORAD
 :gawe:

Whups.  You know what I'm talking about though.  The one where you build replicas of random objects that aren't robots.

we should do another one of those

drive motors work better for hammers than weapon motors because torque. also add counterweights

Alright, I was just posting that since it was April 1st and I thought it would be funny to do something stupid like that. The bot wasn't really meant to be taken seriously.

This bot however, does have potential in it.

but cheese puns

love the setup you used on the drum

lol 3lb pneumatic bot.

pop quiz time

if you cannot answer all of these questions on your own, you should not attempt to build a pneumatic robot

tell me what stroke and bore mean

tell me the difference between a 3 port and a 5 port valve

tell me how to wire a valve so it failsafes correctly

what npt means and pressure ratings are

the difference between regulated and unregulated

how to store your gas/air and relevant safety information / operating pressures for each

what parts you will need to build a pneumatic system and how you plan to source them.

draw a diagram of your proposed system

i'm asking you these questions to think and understand there is more to a pneumatic system than you probably think.

and your robot looks like sid

ball bearings won't help when your frame bends because it will. bearings that small are pointless in an application like that. if you do keep your shafts like that, bore out the armor to at least .25 to leave room so it wont bind when the bot bends

don't have your axles poking through the armor something will bend and bind the motor.
