Chatterbox / Re: Smoking
« on: April 20, 2011, 06:51:14 PM »
Come back in 20 years and tell me you've not tried coke or heroin or meth at least once, and you can prove your point.

Point proven.  approximately 20 years ago, I first tried smoked a joint.  Since then, I occasionally partake, sometimes more than others.   Heroin, coke, meth or anything generally considered 'harder' have never entered this body.  In fact, my count stands at weed, tobacco, alcohol, and salvia. The only one of those which has become a normal habit is tobacco.

As to the normal 'issues' with tobacco, i'm what i call a 'respectful smoker'.  When I smoke in public, I do my absolute damndest to stay as far away from the non-smokers.  I fail at times, admittedly, but I do try.  I didn't start because I thought it was 'cool' or any of that, it was simple curiousity.  I understood the risks, the downsides, everything involved.  I liked the perceived calming effect.  I continue to this day...well, i'm not gonna blame the addiction.  It's an addiction I could overcome if I didn't enjoy smoking, which I do.  The fault lies in me.

I admit it's a moronic choice, and I don't suggest it to anyone.  But it's a choice I made.  If I could go back, well, honestly I'd probably make the same choice.  I'm allowed some stupidity, dammit.

Thyrus vs 090901 is up.  A few havoks took place, however, my panel of judges (consisting of me and my cat) decided they didn't affect the match outcome, so no restart necessary.  Enjoy.

Analysis:

Hammer and the Cheese: The master of froonium arrives.  The cheese, a flipper. Ordinarily a bad choice for the combat arena, but in this particular tourney, could fair well.  Hammer: An interesting case, It's a literal hammer, that looks like a SNS, but is actually a rammer.

Twicycle of Ouchies: Not effective at all, but with a name like Twicycle of Ouchies, who cares?

Wheel Bug: I think this is my favorite, so hard to choose in this one.  Insanely cool.

Moonlight Slaughter in E Flat: Another favorite.  Looks great, sounds that way too.  It makes it's own music.  Even the component which does so (a servo with modified sound) fits the theme.  Makes me think of one of those old feeder pianos.

Corn Mauler: Award for THE most empty space goes here. I hope it gets flipped so you guys can see all the work Jack put in under the chassis.  The weapon looks scary, but in action, a bit less than you might think.

Dozer: Insanely fast for a bot that has treads...That's because it's tricky.  Great work.

Vroom2011: Yet another favorite.  Great workmanship.

The Cake is a Fake: Complete with a candle on top.  You can't go wrong with cake.

Pummel Bass: I still wish the kick pedal worked, but still, great looking bot and one of the heavy damagers.  will go far.

Washing Machine: Not damaging, Not invertible, but fun.  I forgot the flames in the splash, but they're there.  Looks funny as heck when there's smoke coming out.

Bi-Plane: The first (and second) plane of the tourney.  I love it when they get knocked in the air.

SnowBlown: Where was this thing when my driveway was frozen over?!?!?!  Scary, scary scary.

Chair of Pure Evil: Too bad 'bout not getting your update in.  On the brightside, this might give us some hilarious moments.

Attention Shoppers: Another flipper in the combat zone.  Again, in this tourney, might fair decently.  I still love the lazy wheel.

Drillinator: This thing is amazing.  If it stays on it's wheels, it should do great.

Wild Card Entries:

CBBOD: Award for the most simplistic design goes here.  Suprisingly slow for 4WD,

Lapshade of Doom: (Typo NOT mine, btw) Another heavy hitter.  I almost want to make a lamp like this IRL.

CFAMS: No thank you, a Metal smoothie doesn't sound good at all.  The bot, however is cool.  Unfortunately, it's pretty slow, which hurts it.

Air-Pain 1.5: Plane number 3.  Gigantic wingspan, flames goin backwards, LOVE IT.

All in all, You guys did great.  This was exactly what I was hoping for in this.  Wildcard rumble is filmed, and will be edited when I get home from work tonight.  After that, i'm gonna try for an average of a video a day.  See you guys soon.

repeat the steps with a new analog, but this time, program both sides motors the same way (clockwise for positive and counterclockwise for negative on each motor) That'll get you turning.

Next step is wiring them up.   Click on the "controller programming" tab.  there are three icons right above the graphic that looks like a remote controller.  the third one is 'analog' drag that down into a slot on the 'remote'.  like so...

Double click on your new control and you'll get something like this (figure 1)

click the box where it says 'positive axis' and hit whatever control you want to be your forward. On negative, whatever you want to be backwards. then click 'ok'.

On your bot, click the drive motor on the right side, and figure 2 will pop up.  set it up like I have it.  Then, click the motor on the other side of your bot and do the same thing, only this time, reverse clock and counterclock.  Test your bot and you'll be able to go forward and backwards.

Make a new analog, set this one for your left and right.  When you program the motors, set them the same way (clock and counter is the same axis on both motors).  Now you can turn.

Hope that helps.

I would of entered; but my entrant was rather glitchy. And because someone already entered a piano D:

Hope to see you in the sequel when it comes up, then.  Speaking of the sequel, had an idea for it and thought I'd go ahead and get some opinions about it now.  Next time, it has to come from a fictional source...So things like TIE fighters, the U.S.S. Enterprise, a Dalek, so on so forth.

Allright, boys and girls.  090901 is entered. That means all bots are received and approved and you have 1 week from today to send in your updates and AI(for those AIing their own).  And that point, Everything will be official and I'll have your splash posted.

April 17th is the due date.

The inner-naryar in me cried like a little girl lost in the night over all the empty space. I just couldn't do it.

*looks at your ORAD entry and smirks*

I chose Ironbot as well.  I wouldn't wanna run it, but it's a cool idea

Gotta agree with 090901 (get feelin better, btw dude).  The prize for a wildcard is entry to the actual brackets.

As far as the ideas, that's pretty much what I wanted.  A component that's 'something else' as well.  Fits with the whole theme.
Maybe a hammerhead type thing that's actually a mailbox.
That, or something versatile that would make building strange shapes easier.  Maybe a dome or a sphere of somekind.  This is one of those times I wish I was even decent at 3d modeling, but it never seems to work for me.

As always, i'm open to suggestions.
