Thanks.

Edit : errr, little hiccup. I'm not a mod in the DSL showcase section, strangely enough. can someone please fix it ?

I like that gutripper. It's very DSL-ish instead of stock.

i will agree with S_M, nerfing HS in the current meta will just make stock a wedge war (SEE : DSL)

or you'll see stupid sh** like heavily armored HS (maybe with casters) as a popup counter

is it me or do those things look underpowered or lacking in battery life ?

also I believe that flipper would look better if the eyes would be closer to the frontal wedge instead of next to the back.

last one looks pretty damn good.  :thumbup the clamp I'm not so fond of, likely due to the garish color scheme

what is a WS ? Oh it's one of them 1WD horizontal spinners... eh. it's fairly immobile and unable to being driven properly. Which is almost fine on the combat arena, but not so much in arenas with noticeable hazards or when you have a damaged motor/low battery and the AI can't get out of immobilization and you lose

if I were you I wouldn't set the whiskers parallel to each other. Maybe use smaller whiskers and 3 per side, too ?

Okay. It's time to stop playing pretend.

obviously my tenure as mod here was very mixed. but yeah. I'm not really a part of this community anymore. more of a meme reminder and legend of the past. "oh lol remember when nar banned idiots for posting stupid sh** in playground".

anyways. i'd like to ask to be stripped of my global moderator title, if there's still an admin there. there's no such thing as justice incarnate, i certainly didn't live to it, and it always was a meme title.

I would however like to keep being a showcase moderator - i don't think I'll be doing much moderating, but the showcases (specifically, the DSL showcase) are still in my heart. if I can keep them ordered and avoid spam and stupid sh** in them, i'll do it. just give me a kick on Discord if I am not here ( Naryar#3875 )

but obviously, GTM's a thing of the past for me. likely i'll plop here once in a while to give advice to the noobs, or even build something, sh**post, or comment on bots/tournaments. don't expect any NAR AI or such, I don't have the interest in this game for it. if a miracle happens I may even enter a tournament.

i still think about this place sometimes. got fond memories of it. i apologize if this post was too maudlin or emotional, but i feel it is the truth.

The first one turned out better than I hoped. Saw some great driving, great designs, awesome fights that made AI matches look like a joke, and we want more. So here we go :gawe:

FORMAT:
8 entries.
1v1, Bo3, double elimination. 3 min.
The Trov action cam will be used.
Major havoks will have the match restarted as necessary.
The CENTAURI arena. {{image}}  An edited octagon with the same geometry, but hammers do more damage, pits open at 1:30, and floor flippers are less powerful. One of the benefits of human driving is that we aren't stupid and can dodge and use hazards. Use this to your advantage in both designing your bot and driving it. practice driving in the octagon it is the only thing that matters in the world
North American entrants only. Sorry to the others. Even with Parsec, overseas latency is a problem.

BUILDING RULES:
Ironforge LW
DSL-S ruleset, to make it competitive
No external programs allowed (BFE, RA2CF, Ro7B) except for skinning. The exception is BFE editing the chassis height lower, but components must fit in legally!
Entries must show a high degree of controlled movement.
Be creative. Not technically a rule, but try to make something to be remembered. Preferably something that is difficult to AI. Build something crazy that works. Go nuts!
No joke entries. This tournament is a showcase to push the envelope of what new designs work in RA2. I’m not going to waste a slot on a bot that isn’t designed to compete well.
The builder does not HAVE to be the driver. I need the builder's blessing if you are driving their bot, however.
I reserve the right to deny any entry for any reason.

Build well. Skin well. Drive well. Let’s make this a tournament to be well remembered. Online tournaments have the potential to extend the life of RA2, let’s try our best to make this one work. Make a good and cool bot.

SIGNUPS: (close 9/15)
APPROVED
1. [Reserved for reigning champion Lightning S. until 9/8]
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.

BACKUPS/CURRENTLY UNAPPROVED
...

I will not be entering to avoid bias and lag advantage. I'm serious though someone better do another online tourney so i can enter holy nuuuuuts

For me to accept your entry, you need to send me a PM with ALL of the following files/information:
TWO IDENTICAL copies (or more) of your bot (each with differing keyboard controls, or alternatively, keyboard and gamepad). The inputs can be whatever you want as long as you pick only ONE color from this diagram for each copy:
This is so two people can potentially play on the same keyboard layout. Learn how to drive well with both, as you will likely be required to.
Timezone (Pacific, EST, etc)
Times and days available to fight (be generous please). Saturday and Sunday if at all possible. I will try to work with what you got. But remember that you have the potential to fight any entrant, so the more time you have available, the better. Fights under ideal circumstances don't last more than 10 or 15 minutes, but plan for perhaps up to 45.
Parsec user ID Link to register

I will not accept your entry until ALL of the above has been submitted and the bot is approved. If you are confused, ASK ME!
Note: Again, the builder of the robot doesn’t necessarily have to be the driver. Not everyone is good at both, and that’s fine. If you are planning on driving someone else’s bot, you need to say who built it and I also need a PM from the builder giving their blessing.

Once I check and accept all the bots I’ll make a public google spreadsheet with the timezones for all participating members, and we can set the bracket and fight times from there. I’m fully aware we may need to reschedule some. I’ll give people notifications of their fight times & dates as far in advance as I can.

Feel free to ask questions. Let's do this.

This is now a signups topic. You can no longer change rules.

IIRC, Ribbs's tournament was pretty much the start of IRL as something mainstream. but yes it existed since the beginning

Bloodlines - Classic juggler in the direct bloodline of NWB. It also looks good.

Reaper's Hug - It... looks like a mess, not gonna lie. and BOTM bots must always be well built AND pretty. this one may be well built but the aesthetics are killing it for me.

Scrap Slicer- It looks pretty good from the front. Then you see the back and ugh. triangular chassis and exposed motors don't make it look that good.

Solow Paradox - Pretty well built. I however am not a fan of the splash, mostly the clashing color choices. If the background was more fitted to the bot, now it would be a good splash (that random fractal is meh.)
