Use DSL bars instead of steel extenders. And move the VS closer, but also see if you can add some teeth to the beater bars. It'll be a struggle to make it realistic though.

Took my idea from ty4ers showcase, and made it into a bot.  7 ants, plastic 3, 2 halfsheets (WHYYY :P), NPCs. The VS spins downwards to act as a clamp. Not 100% realistic, but I'm sure its possible, I just need to move the multi extender attached to the E-tek to the side a little.

What, so build a 36HS?:P Wedged spinners are less common in stock (yay iron filings:D) My idea is so much better. More of a challenge to get right. :P

The extender work makes me cringe. And surely your good enough to use another flipper seg instead of a alu extender?
In fact, lighten the extender work a little, and if you must have your drive like that, use DSL bars. Its also underpowered, and bigger wheels will help too. And put it against a HS, or another VS (eg Blood Orange, [eS] Cargo) and see why it needs protection.
