Time for a FAMILY PORTRAIT.

Skirmisher: Pretty new, nothing to see here.

Flash: Scout. Fast. VERY fast.

Rumble: Long range large scale bomber - pretty nice in groups.

Weeper: Very short range bomber. Although devastating, takes forever to reload.

Troublemaker: Classic dogfighter.

Dreadweaver: Long range attack frigate - 5 pulsars does pretty sweet effects.

Merciless: Defensive frigate. It can stop a lot of fire (9 flak guns!) and can repair, but not that great otherwise.

Chaos Spawn: An experiment with a buttload of particle guns and quad blasters put in one point. Chaos Star lookalike - but nothing impressive in combat.

Stormrider: Assault frigate. Tougher than the Pillar of Fire, but doesn't makes as much damage even with 6 railguns.

Battlecry: Support frigate. A much slower Repair Ship but tougher and has actual defenses.

Swarmer: Drone frigate. I don't like much drones. Just an experiment. (These small circles with dots at the center are combat drones launchers) and not really tested.

PoF: Heavy artillery frigate. My all time favorite.

Firestorm: Another assault frigate. One of my first builds - strong attack, weak defense, average speed.

ZOMG: Heavy dreadnought. Weapon platform. One of my favorites. It's not as tough as an average dreadnought, but faster.

Heavy Barge: Supposed to be a heavy freighter. Modding the central turret construction facility (builds temporary static turrets) resulted in a fail that makes him producing defensive turrets so quickly than he has a TRAIL of turrets.

Science Dept.: Well, a scientific research ship adapted to combat. Very few offensive capabilities but plenty of specials and goodies, including a short range teleporter, two tractor beams and three EMP guns, that makes it really fun to play (fling asteroids right at your enemies using the tractor beam) if you don't mind about low damage.

Frenzy: Offensive battlecruiser. A bigger Firestorm and a good mix of offense, defense and mobility. Also has shields. Faster than the other heavy ships.

Overlord: Defensive battlecruiser. Sloooooow and clumsy, but good defensive capabilites and... DON'T get too close, because all these front weapons do major damage.

This is my custom ship Pillar of Fire (destroyer class, basically a MW) one-shot-killing an Arcas battleship (HW and one of the best).

2 flak cannons for point defense and SEVEN shockbeamers modded for the beam to last longer. Fragile and slow, it can be easily destroyed by a patrol craft like a Zelus (LW)... as long as you can evade it's main weapon.

This is a... what? Wedged face spinner?

3mm titanium, 6 ant batts and these are normal NPC's.

These aluminium skirts pointed towards the back are anti-flipping devices like Hazcon's 20mm plastic skirt, but better.

And the name sucks - i just though something with Clockwork would be better.

EDIT: After some fighting is seems that it's pretty average: wedge isn't really good, it has issues going under Shogun plus it just got dominated by Lock Nut.

Contests / Vote for BOTM January 2009
« on: December 28, 2008, 04:35:22 AM »
Well:

Noble Sacrifice: Well, it IS very well built, but something refrains me to vote for this one.

Desktop Dragon: Ugly. No, really. Plus underweight.

Screeched Ice: Well it's nice but the ice picks won't do much damage.

Volcano Strike: FOUR PINKS in big letters? Somebody i got the feeling that you're getting worse over time.

Greased Lightning: Well i love pokers/rammers hybrids but the Emergency wedge and the pinks - what's up with the pinks in that BotM ?? - work against him, plus i don't like angled connectors.

The Incredible Invertable Botchi: Looooooong name. Plus teh generic.

Tiny Trinity: Just because i love the Trinity glitch i'll vote for that, plus it IS cool. I don't see any flaw in this bot, excepted the inherent flaws of a Trinity SnS..

My vote is #7.

Oh well...

Chuzzle: Most modern day HW SnS have perhaps 1,5 times more HPs in their weapons and most have more than 3x that drive train. Plus that chassis is huge. Think Pinball. (I honestly think 4 Etek drive is too much, that said, and 2 70kg's isn't enough)

SoaC: It has only something like 60kg into it's weapon. I told you: not enough hitpoints into it's weapons...

PCII: Only half invertible. You're losing half of the drive train when inverted.

Chuzzle Teen: No seriously... This has EVEN LESS HP's into his weapons than Ripterra. The high wedge only solves part of the problem.

Chuzzy: Well, if you wish to send me the bot, I'll be glad to rebuild that for you. Popups kick ass, and i do make propaganda for gut-rippers.

Also, it's not realistic.

Chizzle: Powerful? Flipjack, lightweight, is more powerful than that ! Plus, static wedges are useless if you use snapper wedges. See Smashbox 2.

Not too bad, but still :

-Overpowered. I think 3 battlepacks and 4 ant batts would be enough. Will be lighter for the same total power.

- A near-85kg hammer head (weapon plus extenders) on a Mag Snapper, is, well, more than heavy.

-Rather than all these DSL bars for defense, i would put either heavy snowplows (if you want pure defense) or a weapon rack, Big Metal Friend-style.

-With a wedge and all that external plating i don't think it needs as much as Titanium 5.

Why aren't you giving us inside pics ??

Chuzzle: Crappy wheels. Huge chassis. Not enough HP's into the weapons. Too slow for a SnS. What else?

SoaC: Well, it's not too bad, but i have the feeling it hasn't enough HPs into it's weapons.

Psycho Chuzzle III: It looks decently built, but that's just a pusher. I'll make that completely invertible if I was you.

Chuzzle Teen: That reminds me of Ripterra.

Chuzzy II: My favorite, but mainly because it's a popup. It is decently built although it needs much improvements to be really good.

Clockwork Chuzzle: Well, it does look decently built although i bet that srimech could be better. N°1 looked better IMO.

Chizzle: Why are you using two different wedge types on a flipper ? Anyways two BSG's do look pretty weak for a MW flipper.

There is a Youtube Videos thread. Why not actually using it rather than making a 6-month bump ?

It's a 2D space combat simulator, and awesome.

OK the graphics aren't that great, but it's a freeware and you can build your own spaceships (RA2 in space, anyone?) with only parts (building your hull/chassis with different parts and adding weapons then), plus you have skirmishes or a (short) single player campaign.

Adding flails on a VS is wasting weight.

BTW, i never had that glitch, i think.

I actually took Inf's copy of stock RA2 1.3, installed DSL 2.1 (it seems to work) and made a RAR of it, to make things easier for the DSL-hungry newbies here.

I actually try to get the RAR uploaded in the gametechmods file uploader... Well the thing is something like 250 MB... but even if i wait one hour, it doesn't works.

It's really well-built, but the design (short hammer bot) isn't that awesome IMO.

That weapon is suited for a popup, but i have doubts about this fighting a HS (excepted if you can pin the enemy bot), a VS and especially a rammer.

If I remember well RA2 acts like a keylogger, but doesn't harms you.
