Nice win there; I was not expecting that. I thought for sure one of those pokers would win. But I suppose in rumbles, anything can happen.
Great tournament; I will definitely enter NW3 if I get the chance. I was rather unusual when I first got RA2 in that I built a lot of LW's and MW's--my first bot, in fact, was a MW, and my second was a LW, and I'm pretty sure I have more "noobish" LW's than HW's. So I'll have plenty to choose from.
Another Dark Pounder style bot! In case I haven't made it abundantly obvious already, I love this design.
Those who are agoraphobic may want to look away now.
3mm Ti, NPC fasts, 3 ant batteries + 1 battlepack. Yeah there's a bunch of empty space, but what can I do. I need the wedge in the front. And I like the way it looks.
Improvements over Darkling 1: bigger weapon motor, faster drive, 20kg more weapon weight, and better wedge. I still can't make good wedges in DSL, but Darkling 2's wedge is at least MUCH better than Darkling 1. It can get under nearly any bot in the Nar AI, just not consistently. It only rarely gets under bots like Hope No More, but it can do it.
Originally, I had metal hinge wedges but those were actually worse than axle mounts. I think it's because of the gyro effect of the weapon--the axle wedges stay on the ground even when Darkling 2 turns too sharply and lifts up.
And of course, its specialty is delivering huge hits and throwing bots OOTA. I've even seen it hit over 10000 on occasion.
One was in BBEANS1, when I Will Get Shredded made it to the semifinals and even when it lost, it wasn't without a fight. I still think IWGS vs. Wedge Tracker is one of the best matches in BBEANS history. Everyone thought IWGS would live up to its name, but it turned out to be a half-decent bot.
Also Hazardous Contraption vs. Red Red Green?, because even though HazCon ends up winning 3-0, for a large part of the match it looks like it's going to be RRG. You really can't tell who's going to win that one until it's over.
Appending this to add:
The BBEANS5 final, when R4 is getting owned by Seism 13, but then R4 self-rights, cuts off both of S13's wedges in the process, lands directly in front of S13 and gets under it and wins. Quite possibly the most impressive comeback ever.
Clash Cubes 2 Grindhouse vs. Shinigami, when Grindhouse won with no wheels left. Possibly the most comebacks in any one match.
Trojan Horse vs. Cocytus IV, when Trojan Horse was on fire and missing a wheel, just spinning in circles, and it still got under Cocytus IV and won.
And Insult to Injury V vs. Mace in da face, PitA 8, and Trojan Horse. Because of the whole upset factor (yeah it lost to TH, but it was close).
Anyways JoeBlo, great tournament. To be honest when you started this, I didn't think it would work. And while the ARE still some kinks to work out, you made it fun and interesting. And being different from anything else out there is definitely a plus too.
I gotta go with nearly everyone else on this one. I just love the Fight or Flight design, and I know that it's ridiculously hard to pull off in stock. Voting IS supposed to be for the most original bot, after all...
Hmm... a popup and a HS for me. I'll have to hope Trial goes after MK Ultra, and Error goes after RY3NO. If it's the other way around, I may be in trouble. I would much prefer fighting either an all-HS team or an all-popup team.
Smoke and Tornado 2 look interesting, and I think we all want to know exactly what Debaitor is. This should be a grood (=great+good) tournament.
If only I had those motors he's using back when I built Lego bots. All I had were four of these small, weak motors that came with the very first version of Mindstorms. I could get decent power by gearing 2 of them together, but nothing like this guy has.
First off, the new NPC-T64's. Most of us are probably used to putting them halfway outside the chassis, but if you think about it, that makes absolutely no sense. So in DSL3, the NPC-T64's will collide just like any other motor.
I also added more attach points to the sides of the motor, so there's no more messing around with Left, Right, and Standard NPC's. Just regular and Fast.
But that's not all!
Are you tired of dealing with those big, heavy, boxy, stock baseplate anchors? Obviously you are, if the prevalence of short multi-extenders is any indication. That should change in DSL3.
The new baseplate anchors are half size, 1 kg, and have hexagonal collision mesh instead of square.
For some reason, you can also stack a near-infinite number of them in one spot. They collide with other components just fine, but the new baseplate anchors almost never collide with each other. Just look at that mob in the screenshot and you'll see what I mean.
While it would be unrealistic to stack 10 baseplate anchors and then stack 10 spikes in one spot, I figure stacking several baseplate anchors that are pointing in different directions is perfectly realistic and a useful thing to be able to do.
If he's a fake, the best thing to do is just admit it and laugh that he had so many of us fooled for as long as he did. I don't want to force the guy to leave or anything.
...Aaanyways, that bot is pretty cool Sage. I don't know if I've ever seen a 6WD popup. I would use less razors though and try to get a bit of armor on there. Also, if you haven't already you should play around with the ballast and find out how much is really necessary for a good wedge. Or perhaps if you need more.
As far as angled wedges go, they're really not much (if any) better than straight ones. I just like the look of them.
I've kept rather quiet recently, but I am the original razer!
I'm not convinced. I have some old emails from razer, and you don't talk like him. razer was quite clearly British and you sound like an American. Nor do you have the same email address (though you might have changed it, I don't know).
Sorry to be suspicious, but I can see some new guy pretending to be razer in order to gain instant legend status.
Let's see if you're the real deal, shall we?
What is razer's real name? Initials will do if you don't want to give out your full name. But post your answer here.
Oh, BTW. If you really are razer, you should get the BBEANS AI Pack. It has SFTW and Flippabop in it. Just don't be too hard on SFTW, or it might get mad...
After I lost to FB in BBEANS, I tried to combine R4's destruction with S13's wedges, and this is what I got:
You forgot the servo pistons.
And didn't R4 already have DDT wedges? I thought it did... maybe it was Snapper 2's.
Well great bots anyways. Bullet Witch looks dangerous; could even give Error (my popup-killing HS) trouble.
And 2 blacks is actually enough to power 4WD and 4 DDT's, if just barely. As long as you don't fire the wedges and weapons at the same time, you're good.
