Modifications / Re: NAR AI pack releases ! (NEW RELEASE)
« on: February 08, 2012, 03:39:01 PM »
Could the problems be that there was more than one robot with the same name, and that was causing the problem? I'm not entirely certain what could be causing it, unless it's the sheer amount of bots involved. Quick question, though, is there any way to check which version of 2.3 I have? Just to be sure the 2.7 will work if I install it.

Looks badass. It's like Little Metal Friend went to a scrapyard with a magnet.

There are improvements you could make, such as swapping the 4-Mags, which aren't drive motors, for E-Tek Drives, which are. And swapping the Cobras for Overkills, that would allow your robot to move much, MUCH faster, and manouver more quickly. The Long Ramplates are a poor choice in terms of HP/weight ratio, the extender work could be improved (since the weight limit for UHW's is 5000kg, you've got more than enough weight) and you could also have the side panels angled outwards rather than inwards, so as to scoop the opponents into its arms. It's a good concept, though, I might mess around with this. Very nice idea for a first bot. =)

One problem I can see with the Tite sheet on the skirt hinge, is that it has a tendency to flex backwards on a big impact, and allow the opponent to strike the vulnerable chassis, which happened a few times with Implosion II. If you were to make the chassis vertical at the front, extend the front wedge with the weight saved (provided that doesn't mess up the wedginess), and mount the skirt hinge at the top rather than the bottom, I reckon that would solve that problem, and give opponents less to aim for should they get around to the sides.

i imagine great antweight sppiners from this
You'd still need batteries for drive, though. So you couldn't make this work unless you had servo drive, which would be a) heavy, and b) slow. Rendering the glitch a bit useless, if you ask me.

I actually found this a couple of days ago while I was trying to build a Full Body VS. I didn't really think it was worthwhile, though, because since you've got no power going to your motors, and therefore no force behind your weapons, your weapons are going to be stopped by literally anything.

That was what I was worried about. I think I gave my Team Captured a value of 92, because that was where it was added to the 2.3 version that I had.

I think this is the post he's getting at. In fairness, if he wanted you to spot it, he shouldn't have put it in a spoiler tag. Or sent it through PM. I think he wants it to have both a "Spin" and "Fire" control, and Omni is probably the best way to do that with his design. If you have time, and if you could get it to work, you could probably AI it for the next round, if that's at all possible.

Discussion / Re: Why do you NOT participate in BOTM?
« on: February 08, 2012, 08:36:26 AM »
I've not take part in the last few BOTM's, just because I've had no ideas at all. I knew I couldn't win the Christmas one, though, but the two after that, I just had no ideas that were both good designs, and interesting. There's also the problem that people seem to know which splash is mine, despite the fact that I try to mix it up a little. And then there's the fact that effective bots don't seem too appealing in BOTM anymore, at least from what I've seen. Satellite and Iron Hornet are the two examples I'd put forward. Sattelite lost narrowly to JD's El Chupacabra replica, which admittedly was a very good replica, but Iron Hornet got completely creamed by a robot that didn't even meet the criteria. For me, it's a combination of being a bit too busy and a lack of inspiration, I suppose.

Discussion / Re: An Idea for a New Obstacle Course Arena
« on: February 08, 2012, 08:27:35 AM »
I had the idea of something like the Gauntlet from the first couple of series of Robot Wars. Although I also thought that a pathfinding fix, similar to what happened with the Hill Top KOTH arena, would help significantly.

It's been advertised over here for a while. As "The greatest guitarist in the world", and "The best frontman of all time".

drilled into (almost through) 4 of my fingers and thigh
beltsanded knuckes raw
have a nice scar that runs the length of my forearm that split open when sown shut
cut the tips of both thumbs off (not at the same time!)
since i started building robots im used to blood :laughing

I can top that... I've shot a nail through my thumb with a nail gun... I've also got a tiny piece of TI in my left thumb. It's been there since September.

I'll bet my girlfriend could top that. She electrocuted herself when she was three (still has a piece of metal in her hand), and got the tip of her finger bitten off by a dog. That's the two major ones that I can remember at the moment.

When you wire it to a Button control, you only get a "Burst", which is what you're getting. Wiring it to an Analog will allow you to "Fire", which gives you a sustained burst. You could wire both analog directions to the same button to make the controls easier.
