Tournament Archives / Robo Zone 2 discussion
« on: July 26, 2010, 05:11:29 AM »
hey guys i thought i would start up a robo zone 2 topic to discuss what sort of challenges you would like to see in the second series. I'm also after some good DSL builders to help me with team robo zone (the house robots)... that's right robo zone 2 will be DSL LW's.

challenges:

- Beat the Box:
Your robot faces a well defended box to test your robots offense.

- Survival:
Your robot will face a powerful heavyweight to see how well defended your bot is.

- 2 on 1:
Your robot faces 2 beetleweights to test your robots overall design and weight management.

- Sumo Challenge:
Your robot will face a robot that weighs about 275kgs and has a lot of pushing power and a decent wedge on the flextop arena to test your robots steering, pushing power and wedge.

- Robo Zone 2 Final:
this series will also feature the debut of the Robo Zone Arena, a custom arena in which the top 4 placed robots will face off at the end to decide the winner. the 4th and 3rd place robots at the end of the challenges will start the match, 30 seconds later the 2nd place robot will join in and finally after another 30 seconds the 1st placed robot at the end of the challenges will join in the battle.

Rules:

1. Standard DSL (2.1) LW's.
2. Standard DSL realistic rules apply.
3. All bot building is to be done in the bot lab (No AAM, BFE Etc.)
4. I will Discard the match recordings containing Havoks and keep/post the 1st clean battle.
5. No Stacking Allowed (No eFFe, axle, snapper glitches Etc.) unless it sticks to the realistic rule.
6. No Narmor or any type of invincible armor.
7. Multi-bots are allowed up to a combined weight of 249kgs.
8. You should AI your own entry. I'm able to AI basic spinners and rammers, I can AI popups if you have already placed the smartzone. By getting me to AI you understand that your bot may not perform as well as you would have hoped.
9. Your Robot must have weapons (no Pure flippers, Wedges or pushers allowed).
10. All Robots must have at least 2 wheel drive and show controlled movement at all times.
11. No nasty pickles, Bumble bots, Bumble Bees or Crawlers allowed.

12. Arena List:
for 2 on 1 - Small Arena (H Off obviously)
for Sumo - flextop arena (H Off)
for Beat the Box - Small Arena (H Off)
for Survival - Combat Arena (H Off)
for Robo Zone 2 Final - Robo Zone Arena (H On)

13. Time limits:
for 2 on 1 - 2 minutes.
for Sumo - 1 minute.
for Beat the Box - 1 minute.
for Survival - 1 minute.
for Robo Zone 2 Final - 3 Minutes.

14. Specified challenge rules/scoring:

2 on 1 - The fastest win scores the most amount of points, the fastest loss scores the least.
           - Draws will be decided by in game scores.
           - If you enter a Multi-bot and 1 gets defeated it's score will still count should it end in a draw.

Sumo - The fastest win scores the most amount of points, the fastest loss scores the least.
          - Draws will be decided by in game scores.
          - Only one Multi-bot needs to be pushed off the tabletop for them to lose.

Beat the Box - Fastest KO of the Box will earn max points.
                     - Failure to knock out the Box will have your score decide your rank for the challenge.

Survival - The fastest win scores the most amount of points, the fastest loss scores the least.
              - If you enter a multi-bot both must be KO'd.
              - Draws will be decided by in game scores.

Robo Zone 2 Final - The 4th and 3rd ranked robots after all other challenges are completed will start the match.
                             - 2nd place after the challenges will join the match after 30 seconds by being released from a caged off area.
                             - 1st place after the challenges will join the match 30 seconds after 2nd place is released.

15: Awards/Prizes.

Robo Zone Final Arena:

Stock AI Mini's:

Winner of Final - Robo Zone Final arena and all 5 Mini's
2nd place in Final - 4 Mini's of your choice.
3rd and 4th place in final - 3 Mini's of your choice.
1st place in any Event - 2 Mini's of your choice.

You may only win one Award, that being the bigger one.

16: Updates.

I will Allow 10 to 15 entries and will allow only 1 change if it's necessary for example, if your bot won't work without the change I will allow it other then that you may not change or upgrade your entry.

it's good but i don't like it because it's not original enough :P and i gave it 2 casters so it could have some side protection because AW SnSers are popular :)

2283
kinda cheap, Not original but effective:

battleshot was me driving vs starcore v.4 logic probe.

you don't need T connectors for that setup you can use 4 round extenders and save 2kgs.
_____ <-- 2 extenders, your 2 RAD's go here.
    |      <-- 1 extender
-----      <-- 1 extender, your plow gets connected here.

surely you can figure it out :P

2286
ah, I have an AW hammer already :P it's not really that good so i need to use a new unique chassis to build a decent one.

2287
I'm considering working on LW's again soon but i still think i can come up with more unique AW's.

2288
upgraded my wammer "Cold Breeze", now looks a bit more like his HW counterpart apart from the fact i had to use a razor tip instead of an axe head :(

2289
the trapper works well, unicorn does great till the batteries run out of juice and the Wammer could be better.. i need to make it invertible. I will get some Videos up highlighting the bots sometime soon.

2290
upgraded Unicorn's plow to make it more "wedgey":

2291
here are the AW's I'm currently working on:

Top left: An AW inspired by Click's Cold Front bot.
Top right: An AW trapper designed to grab a hold of other AW's and damage their sides.
Bottom: An Upgraded version of Unicorn, better at scooping up other AW's and damaging them with the razor tip.

Well, the last three had decent armour, built to the weight limit, ect.

F*ck yeah building bots with virtualy the same parts........and no caps.

  He Has Plastic

yes it is the only way.

the fact this thread has 80 pages and this is the best you have in those 80 pages makes some question if you are really trying to learn advanced building techniques. The best way to learn is to study other bots from showcases or importing AI robots from starcore and seeing how those are built.

I'm getting closer, still trying to get Unicorns setup to be effective when it's batteries drain out >.> I'm also working on 2 other AW's a Trapper and another Wammer except this time with a wedge and axe head. New AW designs are tough to work out and make effective :)

INTERNET CONNECTIVITY IS STILL MY NEW BEST FRIEND

And if you thought Helix was my most awesome bot, think again (or maybe not. I couldn't decide as well :P).

(Image removed from quote.)

Stengah (YES I KNOW I'M RUNNING OUT OF NAMES). 2 blacks, Snapper IIs stacked in a funny way (the arms were halfway through the snapper body o_O), 6 razors and 12 irons. And yes, the iron attachments are intended as such to prevent bots from flying too high so the bursts can still do their part. :D

I'm glad you got a decent Internet connection now :)
