Was a time System32 that Pop-ups rulled the nest. And before that Pokers had major impact. Designs and styles change over time. That is not the issue. I even built Warmachine to show that Rammers are still relavent in todays world. I am glad Sage is being creative.

Keep an eye out for Caster Armored bottom Bumble Ball Crawlers. There will be impacts from this decision. You may not like the results.

My issue is with the technology, not with Sage. I am not afraid of the bot. I am disappointed about the allowing the style of bot. Had been (in my opinion) clearly banned. That is my point. Doesn't help that the version Sage sent me to review was incapable of controlled movement.

Sage you even said it in your description of Bumble Bee. Won't hurt you unless you try to hurt it. As in can't go out and hurt others because it can't... go. You can stand back and just watch it flair around.

I am sure this will either fade off or Click will declare or show that he AIed the version in the Tournament to track "well enough" an opponent.

Just means this style of bot is now allowed in BBEANS tournaments and people will need to plan for it.

I do feel the design is a Bumble Ball varient and I would suggest it put to a forum wide vote if Sage and Clickbeetle will not act as they should.

I think that Clickbeetle should not have allowed it and in doing so he should have warned the rest of the community so they could adapt to what was previously a banned technology.

I suggested in private IM a week ago that Sage should coordinate with Clickbeetle to replace the bot before the first match is impacted and I was shrugged off.

I have nothing against Sage. I like him alot. I also know the technology well. ACAMS has a SHW in Starcore v3 to show the design. It was recognized as a problem technology and Click knew enough to ban it and related designs in the BBEANS General Rules.

I generally let you all scrabble and slam each other to your hearts content but when I see something is wrong I do articulate. Even back to the days of Ace Uplink banning people at whim with their "Ban Hammers" I stood up to them and pushed back hard.

IS THAT SO BAD? AM I NOT ALLOWED TO TRY AND WIN? HUH?!!?

Plus, it's NOT a cheap win any more than anything else in this tourney. It follows all the rules. It's a bot that has never really been tried before and it works. It fits my tourney rule i gave myself to be original. IT CAN BE BEATEN.

I think you guys are all just jealous I made a bot you didn't think of first.

You are definitely allowed to try and win. It is not an issue of people being jealous. It is an issue of people considering it one of the forbidden technologies not allowed for the BBEANS tournaments.

It is a version of a Bubble Ball as you recognize even it its name: Bumble Bee.

The BBEANS General Rules for All Tournaments, Revised 2/26/09, Rule 3 States:

"Your bot must be able to show controlled (not random) movement at any time during the match, for as long as its drive system remains undamaged. Bumble balls, Nasty Pickles, piston fliers, or related designs do not count as controlled movement. A quick test: if your bot is able to track down an immobile opponent in an arena without walls, then it should be acceptable."

To recap, "...Bumble balls ... or related designs do not count as controlled movement."

It is your fault you submitted a design that is related to a Bumble Ball and it is Clickbeetle's fault for accepting it without warning the rest of the community and giving them time to respond.

How many people would have submitted Bumble Ball varients or armored their tops if they knew this kind of technology that was previously forbidden was being allowed for this tournament? You did not invent it, the design type has existed and been basically despised since 2005.

Do not call people jealous when they are angry at this being allowed and not being warned. You are just showing yourself for being shallow, lame, and covering your a$$.

Sage,

Bumble Bee is very susceptible to wandering right out of the arena and yes a good set of hits by a decent Pop-up could ruin its day.

T-800 is in the first 16 bot cluster and SandStorm is in the second 16 bot cluster so it will be a long time and a lot of foes to defeat before we even have a chance to find out.

Unless you want to post 1:1 Videos in the mean time...

But what is a forum without chat?

I was surprised that psycolone predicted SurgicalStrike would defeat T-800 Terminator.

There is always a chance for any bot to be randomly flipped out of this type of arena but in my experience and testing T-800 Terminator has never failed to defeat any bot that has an exposed front chassis. None. Zero. Zip. Terminated.

@FC: Exactly.

@Ianh: You might remember the Fury/Death Warrant team... they always made me laugh !

@S32: Did you even AIed both of your bots and fought with them as that ?

Its all perspective but how I remember it, frequently Death Warrant would get to one opponent first and then Fury would eat Death Warrant trying to get to the opponent then go attack the other opponent. The final match that Fury and Death Warrant lost was what I felt was a fluke count out going after the other bot that had just spun upside down over in the other corner while Fury had eaten the first opponent and Death Warrant. (Sorry if I am not remembering it correctly)

In all the history of RA2 the best Multibot combos that I recall were well made low to the ground popups. Designs that pretty much can't hurt each other. I have watched little packs of pop-ups take on SHWs that way.

You all are correct about not liking bear claws for security themed bots.

And as for the idea of using skinned components in a Starcore pack, it would skin all the uses of that component for all the other bots in the pack and every use of that component for people that install that pack. Unacceptable.

Nice. Pretty good for someone who hasn't built anything in a long time  :D.

Stock Showcases / Presenting the T-800 Terminator
« on: April 12, 2009, 03:23:32 PM »
In honor of the upcoming May 2009 Terminator Salvation movie I decided to update and enhance the Starcore v4 T-800 Terminator.

* 2 Stacked Supervolt 12V Batteries
* 2 Snapper II Burst Motors
* 2 External Mount Wide Displacement HP Z-Tek Drive Motors
* 3 Bursted HP Z-Tek Attack Motors
* 3 Rotator Bars
* 3 Aligned Maces per Arm (27 in Total)
* 4 Overlapping Weapon Braking Ram Plates
* 2 Weapon Breaker/Ramming Razor Tips
* Highly Efficient Chassis Design
* Lean Invertible Profile
* Strong Battery:Motor Ratio for Maximum Attack in the Opening Minute

Bursted HP Z-Tek and Weapon Stacked DDT Burst Motors are getting so strong that a good Offensive is an agressive Defense. Rather then focus on maximum weapons possible it becomes critical to protect the chassis and wheels from attacks and breaking the opponents weapons while maximizing the damage that occurs when your hits occur.

Thus was chosen an aggressive defense (Ram Plates block and still do half damage in response vs Snow Plows only block). Double thick Ram Plates in theory do that much more reply damage. With tripple aligned Maces on each arm doing 50% more damage per hit then double aligned weapon solutions.

Setting the chassis back and thin profile reduces chances of chassis hits by over the top or under attacks.

The forward mounted Razor Tips were a use of remaining weight to catch and break that many more weapons. Yes I know they are half hit points. Better then leaving the weight unused and can be used for late round ramming as needed. If I can round up 4 more KG will upgrade them to Maces or Iron Spikes.

In testing the T-800 Terminator shredded other HS designs (even when they had more Maces or Iron Spikes), ripped apart VS designs and in general tore the weapons right off Pop-ups. Potentially vulnerable to Over-the-top Hammer bots and there is always the random lucky Havok hit to weapon motors in the early seconds of a fight that can seriously upset a match. A Juggler can sometimes perfectly trap the Terminator and wreck havok.

Just add 2.1KG of flesh for a perfect 800KG Terminator.

As Derek Reese says, "Aim for the Chip"

Wedges have challenges as AI. If you can get the timing right could be fun. Some of the newer AI routines that check for opponent chassis instead of opponent weapons helps alot.

I stayed within my 1 week update window. If you still are in that window or get permission from Click, send in what you are most proud of.

I sent in a very updated bot to Click. I am very excited. The idea for it came to me in the shower (where I do some of my best thinking). Its not radically new or anything but I feel it is quite powerful and should do well in this tourney. Looking forward to the go ahead to start showing off bots.

The theme even honors an upcoming movie...

Are we ready yet to have a separate thread of "BBEANS5 Bot Entry Showcase" for people to show what they submitted and why they feel their bot is stellar or a victim waiting to happen?

If you have siblings or friends who play RA2, they can enter.  But just make sure that it's their decision to enter and not yours.  Don't just find someone else's bot and send it saying "This person is entering!"

On that note, I think sending bots from old veterans like Rejected in absentia is going a little too far.  Something seems wrong with somebody being in a tournament without knowing it.  And there's also the question of how to distribute the prizes if they win anything.  So... no.  But thanks for trying to help.

I agree about  the in absentia being a problem. Just hated seeing it not happen for lack of just 1 slot for example.

I can easily submit proxy (Starcore v4 tuned) bots from Rejected or others from years gone by that have been tuned and enhanced if needed.
