LDL used FBSPlus (as Naryar said) which is what he opted to use for this heat.. I actually blame his success on the FBS/ FBSPlus strategy.

So do I!  I was expecting Kheper to get knocked around and not be able to do any damage, but I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquisition!

(Spanish Inquisition = getting my back armor which I thought wouldn't get hit ripped off and my chassis destroyed.)

If Face Gasher just sit and spun like a normal SnS, Kheper could have survived its attacks and maybe gotten another TKO.

I hope I don't get more SnS's in my next heat.  Of course, then I'll probably get VS's... we need more popups and HS's!

I still have no idea what to enter

BOT-204 has a good chassis for a wedgy VS.

You can make a good hammer bot out of Raptor (easy to fit 4 HPZ's in there, and DS Steel is a big plus).

Those are a couple ideas I had that I ended up not using.  Well actually I made a half decent Raptor, but my Backyard Ripper was better.  Feel free to take those and run with them.

If it has the NoChassisTime feature, then it should be current and work.

NCT value of '3' means if a bot is in the smart zone but not the chassis, the AI will wait 3 seconds and then start firing.  If you want the AI to ONLY fire if the chassis is in the zone, make the NoChassisTime 99 or something.  '5' is a good long time, but not too long.

Alternatively it might be a smartzone placement issue.  Even with Popup.py, if your smartzone is too far forward, the AI will fire its weapons early.

For one, the BBEANS popup.py does not tell a bot to fire its weapons only when a chassis enters the smartzone.

It should!  If it doesn't, you might have an outdated version or the NoChassisTime might be set too low.  The BBEANS AI comes with the newest version of Popup.py.

As for the hammer collision, it's because for some reason the game ignores concave surfaces on collision mesh.  If there's a concavity in an object, it just gets filled in with invisible collision.  That's why you can't put stuff in between the motors on the 6-Mag gearbox.  Unless you change the simulation geometry, which it looks like I will have to do for DSL3.

*Spam cleaned up*  Now quit it... or Bisector will come to your house and cleave you in twain.

I made a mock battle video for BBEANS6!  It's just an opportunity to show off the shiny new intro sequence I'll be using, along with my entry.

And, I also updated the BBEANS General Rules.  I didn't change anything, I just figured it was about time to add the realistic rule, the prizes, and a list of who can use what prizes.

Edit: Oh, and I should mention this before it's too late.  If you're planning on entering a melty brain SNS... PLEASE keep the tick interval as high as possible!  (Read: higher than Feeblemind or Fireside in Nar AI.)  Those melty brain SNS's can lag my game a lot even when I'm not running FRAPS, and I don't want to be recording 15-minute matches.

OK guys, it's been less than a week and we're already at 37 responses for #1 and #2, 52 with #3 included.  By the time April 2nd actually rolls around, we might even be over 64 (but I'm NOT doing a 128-bot bracket.  There's a limit to how much I can handle and 64 is about it.)  I think it's safe to say I'll be starting with a 64-bot bracket.

So, just calm down.  There's still OVER A MONTH until registration starts--you don't need to persuade everyone and their mom to enter just for the sake of a bigger tournament.  If registration opens and it turns out that the poll gave an overestimate of the number of entries, then you can rope your friends and family into this.

Ooh!  On the Coal Miner rebuild, get rid of the two edge spinners and put a single spinner high up in the middle, pointing down, like on Industrial Coal Miner in DSL.  I always liked the tri-face spinner setup on that bot (which is based off a real life mining drill design).

Can't promise it will be effective, but you'll get weight, and it will look cool.

Nice, I thought about doing Ripblade cause it's one of only 3 possible VS's, but it's hard to work with.  With so few HS's in Stocks Revenge (probably) it should do well.

Now there's two Scrappers bots... someone make an Arc Pounder!  Double strength plastic, oooooh scary.

EDIT: That gives me an idea. How about making a pre-stacked battery component? Just a regular Supervolt, but with double power and double weight?
Or has it been thought of and done in my abcense?

[shameless plug]That battery you describe is in the BBEANS AI Pack.  Also, you can win it as a prize in BBEANS6 and then it will be tournament-legal for all future BBEANS.[/shameless plug]

The VS looks good, interesting use of the plow to keep bots from flying over and behind it.  I don't see that much on VS's.  With the extra weight, I would try to get 4WD and/or extra armor.

Iron fists don't have normals.  They are perfectly viable weapons in DSL, just not used much.  That is not a bad antweight; now try to make it invertible.

Oh, and

Badnik, that was uncalled for.

You are just giving System32 fuel for ranting about bot criticisms.

Hunter will be in DSL3.

I'd love to make AW and BW replicas so I would have nice even 6-bot replica teams, but that would be at least 30 additional bots... I think I'll do that as a patch later on, if I do it.

Whups, I think I know what your problem was.  VertSpinner and VertSpinner 2 both use 'sweapons', which requires an updated __init__.py in order to work.  That __init__.py has been floating around for so long I just forgot about it and assumed you had it.

If you copy/paste __init__.py from the BBEANS AI AI folder into whatever AI folder you were using before, it should work.

changes the sawblade to a huge-ass flat thing that does not look at all like a sawblade...

This sounds like a skin problem, rather than an attach point problem.  The saw blade (presumably to cut down on polys) has square faces on the top and bottom, and a .tga skin with alpha channel is applied to make it appear circular.  If the skin is changed, it could appear as a big flat square.

You know, I just realized something odd.

The first HW I ever built was a face spinner.  AND I HAVEN'T BUILT ANOTHER ONE SINCE.

I guess because it's one of those designs with not much room for originality?

Well, we'll see how I do in this with my second-ever attempt at a FS...

Sweet new uploader, by the way.

Tournament Archives / BBEANS6 Interest Poll
« on: February 12, 2010, 08:39:02 PM »
All right, here's the deal.

The purpose of this poll is to determine whether to run a 32-bot bracket or a 64-bot bracket.

I'll run the 64-bot bracket if there is good evidence that I will get 64 entries.  What I count as GOOD EVIDENCE is a high number of Option 1 and Option 2 votes.  I'll make a conservative estimate and say I'll get 10 entries from people who don't vote in this poll.  So, what I'm looking for here is somewhere around 50 or so votes for options 1 and 2, with somewhat less weight given to Option 3, but I will still take it into consideration.

YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR VOTE ANY TIME so don't feel compelled to vote #1 if you don't actually have a bot ready.  You can update your vote once you do.  If I get a bunch of #1 votes and then I go with the 64-bot bracket and then nobody enters, I won't be very happy.  Please don't do that to me.

Note:  Even if I decide I can get 64 entries, I won't necessarily do a 64-bot tournament.  I'll do it if I can, but I'm not guaranteeing anything.

This is your chance for a bigger tournament, so let me know your status!

i should try and make something, this looks interesting.

Duuuuude, nice to see you back to participate in this.

All right folks, NEW DEAL HERE:

It appears I once again underestimated the response for BBEANS entries.  I am beginning to think that a full 64 entries might be possible.

BUT, I don't want to start with a 32-bot bracket and expand to 64 once it fills up.  There is too much incentive for cheating that way *cough*system32*cough* and also some people who rushed to get in early *cough*venko*cough* might feel cheated out of extra time to work on their bot.  This time I want to stick with whatever bracket size I say I'll do.

Therefore, I'm making an interest poll for BBEANS6.  If there is evidence that 64 entries will happen, I'll use a 64-bot bracket.  The poll should be up in a couple minutes.  If you're planning to enter BBEANS6, make sure to vote!
