A side mounted axle would AGOD, unless you paused the game every time you loaded the bot.

Besides it might have already been done before.

Not that I know of.  Very inventive design, I like it!  It's like a "true" popup, but with greater reach.

Though whether or not the 60 kgs for the extra 2 DDT's is worth it is questionable.  Is it much better than a traditional-style popup?

It looks nice but it has me confused, care to explain how it works?

It's just a burst motor that looks and sounds like a piston.

You attach stuff to the sides of the axle on the big gear (see last piston in the pic).

deleting the old one

If he can't save it, he certainly can't delete it...

It might be "being used by another program"?  Try rebooting your comp.

Of course.

We have our first problem: The AU Onslaught 1 arena (the tabletop one) doesn't work properly. The AI bots don't move and when you exit it the game cashes.

Obviously non-functional/unfinished arenas should be excluded from this pack.

Only FB's does.

Oh, and Serge I used your camera angles calculator for programming the new intro in the BBEANS arena.  Mostly it works great but occasionally it will return angles that are rotated 90 or 180 degrees.  Not hard to get the correct angles if it does that, but something to consider.  I haven't noticed any pattern to it.  Maybe something to do with the fact that it's on an animated camera?

Beat me to it!

I think bot classifications are actually a lot like biological classification.  For most people (this is R0B0 here), saying something is "a bee" or "a click beetle" is enough.  There are a lot of different types of bees and click beetles, but you don't need to care about all the little differences.

But for scientists (this is Naryar and Sage here) everything has to be broken down as far as possible.  If you see a bee you want to know what species it is.  For some reason, humans have an innate need to categorize everything they encounter.  It's useful if you need to know if said bee is an invasive exotic species, or if it can sting you, or if you need to know if a different bee is a new species, but usually the species differences are trivial.

On that note, I wonder what it would look like if we made an evolutionary tree of bot designs.

Some bots obviously evolved from others, like flippers->popops->true popups.  But others are more confusing.  Did jugglers come from HS's, or from popups?  And what would the ancestor of all bots be?

Burst motors don't exist in real life.

Pistons with racks and pinions do.  These are modeled after some photos I found of TerrorHurtz's hammer setup.

I can't actually make them use CO2, which is a bummer (believe me I tried), but having the realistic look is pretty cool.  At least having burst motors that make a psssshhhhh pneumatic sound when you fire them makes a bit more sense now.

I have all the stats worked out for these and also the other burst motors in DSL3.  It took a lot of tweaking, but I'm happy with the stat formula I have now.  Compared to other burst motors, the VDMA R/P pistons have:

-Very high power
-Fast retracting
-Low HP
-High battery drain

I expect these things to be very popular with flippers.

One of the more boring matches of the tourney so far.

Probably for you it was, since you had to film the whole thing, but I thought it was cool when

And I thought for sure Reier/Naryar vs. Roboquad was going to go the other way after the first round.

They don't need to be straight, in fact having them like that protects the motors.  Also the weapons in the back would be blocked if the front ones were straight.

Bot for CombatAnts.

Nice and pushy and burns stuff.  The only downside is the lack of wedge and invertibility.  But AW flippers (even wedges of any sort) are rare so I should be OK.

And an update to Drumblebee D2.

Replaced the Mag snapper with a BSG, upgraded the armor to 5mm plastic, and upgraded the flipper segments in front to Lightning spikes.

'Bout time I showcased this.

Excellent wedges (can consistently get under NWB) and consequently, an excellent gut-ripper of anything not an HS.  I'm not expecting there to be a lot of HS's in Stock's Revenge, so I'm hoping to do well.

And here's a Raptor rebuild that I'm not entering.

Decent enough for a stock AI rebuild, but isn't quite up to par with other modern bots.  I could probably improve it, but I'm not entering it so I don't have much incentive to do so.  Maybe somebody else can clone it and make it good.

But you're NOT too lazy to

I'm working on making the best wedges possible. I spent two hours so far tweaking the wedges. Almost done. Can get under NWB pretty easily now, and every Inf AI Heavyweight. Once it gets under Seism 16, my job is finished.

No, but there's some on my hard drive.

Blue Ruin won 12-0 in the first RFSHQ tournament and was winning the second one too, but that one never finished.

I feel like Naryar is trying to profile us for a dating site or something.

Everyone would get matched with Barbie because she's the only female member.

...Or IS she?  Dun dun DUN!

Seriously, there's no way to prove anybody's gender... and I wouldn't blame any girls for keeping their identity secret on a forum full of geeky guys.

Anyways, I always aim for Efficiency and Creativity.  Sometimes I try for Originality or Cool Looks too.  Building Skill I don't really care about in and of itself; it's just a tool by which I build more efficient bots.

I've been trying to convince FB to build a new Blue Ruin for BBEANS6.  That bot has a lot of history behind it.

Discussion / Re: Importance of RA2
« on: February 21, 2010, 09:34:32 PM »
RA2 is less of a game and more of a hobby for me.

That's a pretty good way to describe it.  There's actually very little "game" to RA2, it's more of a sim you play as a hobby.

I play other games about as much as RA2, depending on when I got them.  If they're new games I might boot up RA2 only once a week or less because I'm excited over all the newness.  Once my other games get old, though, RA2 comes to front and center again.

But I'm worried that once Golden Sun DS comes out, I might get dragged away from RA2 for a whole month

Chatterbox / Re: Debate: Are you ready to die?
« on: February 21, 2010, 06:44:14 PM »
Drake equation, eh ?

If the universe in infinite, then a being resembling the description of God must exist, and a God greater than him, and on and on.  In fact anything that is physically possible must exist, with an infinite amount of copies.

Why should an infinitely large universe should necessarily have an infinite diversity ? There IS a possibility of God existing, but i will not say it MUST exist.

And your point, while clever, is purely theorical.

Quote from: Douglas Adams
in an infinitely large Universe such as, for instance, the one in which we live, most things one could possibly imagine, and a lot of things one would rather not, grow somewhere.

And another related quote.

Quote from: Douglas Adams
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.

As for the original topic here, I'm not "ready" to die because I think I still have a purpose here, but I'm not especially worried about it.  If I'm right and there is a God and a Heaven, then I get to live forever and everything's cool.  And if I'm wrong and this short life is all there is, well then I'll just cease to exist and I'll never know that I was wrong, so it won't matter.  It's a no-lose situation.
