i just had to do this. call me insane but at least i have a bit of ramming speed.

i just made this for kicks, nothing serious (for now).

8WD rammer has been done a couple times, but I haven't seen an 8WD poker before.

Tip: rotate the Z-teks so the flat side is flush with the floor instead of the pointy side.  That will let you use shiny hub wheels, which will get you a whole 48 more kgs to work with.

Not often we have bots with scientific species names !

I entered Solenopsis destructor in CombatAnts 2.  Granted, it's a made-up species, but the genus (fire ants) is correct and destructor is a proper Latin species name.

Oh, and Loxosceles laeta has nothing on Phoneutria nigriventer.  Possible name for a HW version.

Very nice and neat build.  What's it called?  Absolute Good and Evil?  (you know, because it's black and white)

Another real life flail HS I didn't know about.  Who says flails are unrealistic!

Good replica, too.

Plastic 1?  Something's not right here, you should be able to get stronger armor than that with the stuff you have.  The srimech can't be THAT heavy.

Speaking of srimechs, you might try the setup I used on Tempest (in the Megaton team).  That's the most reliable way of self-righting a shell spinner I've found.  The key is the stabilizer that sticks out beyond the shell which also doubles as bottom armor.

Looks like a solidly powerful shell spinner you've got there, in any case.

The flamer bot is cool but sorta needs a damaging weapon for finishing the opponent off (unless you're counting on the hazards to do that, which with a 35kg plow might be a feasible strategy).

I would trade that plow on the HS for some weapon motor protection; those Magmotors don't have much HP.  Possibly wheel protection as well since front-oriented HS's tend to twist to the side a lot.

The rammer looks like a juggernaut.  Slow, but the only way it will be beaten is with a wedge (or a Bisector... hehe).

Man you have so many good LW's, how are you ever going to choose one for BBEANS?

Allrighty, here is a closer look at Bisector.

And a link to the video for anyone who missed it:

Changes since I posted that video: I made the chassis slightly smaller and replaced the spinner shell plate with a short DSL bar.  The hammer snags on bots a lot less often now, almost never.

Bisector is kind of like Kheper in the way it works.  It can trap HS's and hammer away at their top, and it doesn't care if wedges get under it because it can easily pound at them from above.  Unlike Kheper, though, it is good against VS's as well.  The only bot types it really struggles with is SnS's with a long reach, and gut rippers with protected tops like Medecine.

Also, if I'm not mistaken Bisector is the first completely invertible hammer bot.

The only problem is, while it can beat a lot of bot designs, it sometimes takes a long time to do so if the opponent has top armor, and the opponent might win by points before Bisector can get a KO.  I've experimented with different hammer setups with more damage potential, such as a stack of beater bars with a 5kg tooth at the tip, but nothing I've tried is as durable or swings as fast as a Vlad spike.  I've also tried the Robot X Sword since it has no normals, but for some reason that does no damage a lot of the time.  The Vlad spike, while not ideal, is the best weapon I've found.

Check betaburst2.txt in the Components/styles folder.

Make sure the line

alwaysvisible = True

is there.  If it is and it still doesn't work, I don't know what's wrong.  Nor do I know why that line would be missing in the first place...

Edit:  Wait it looks like everything on the baseplate is invisible, not just the Beta motor.  That's weird.  Maybe it is a graphic card issue...

Doomkiller vs. Squirrel_Monkey:
RustWall is too front-heavy for Ripblade Evolved to flip.  Ripblade gets out-weaponed and S_M wins.

Sage vs. R0B0:
May the best wedge win.

Me vs. Sparkey:
I think I'm pretty sure I'm almost positive Barring a miracle, I can win this.

Jack Daniels vs. Badnik:
Hellbringer's Cousin will rip off Ripblade's wedges and it will start a-tumbling.  At that point anything can happen but my money's on JD.

GK vs. Larrain:
Rip and Bleed can get some good hits on that exposed chassis, but probably not enough before Smatom Asher takes off the stabilizers on R&B (see what I did there?).  The weapons will be quick to follow.

Rolo vs. LLB:
Hard to call.  Rolo's bot is better, but it will be feeding its hammers right into Ripblade2's weapon.  It will come down to who gets the first lucky extender hit.

powerrave vs. Scrap Daddy:
Ali is more overpowered than Overpowered SnowJob.  Barring a miracle, Scrap will win.

JoeBlo vs. Pwnator:
Too close to call.  It will depend on how much damage the Metal Mutts can do.

Just remember that you won't necessarily get a bye (in fact there is a chance the bracket could totally fill up and no one gets a bye) so don't take DOAM too seriously.  It's just a fun way to make byes more interesting.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Meet the official BBEANS6 ByeBot!

Instead of getting a free pass in bye rounds, all bots will face off with Diarrhea Of A Madman!

"But wait!" you say.  "DOAM is no ByeBot!  How the heck are we supposed to beat that thing with a LW?"

Just hear me out.  This is a cool idea.  Here's how it works:

-You get one shot at DOAM in the Bye round.  No best 2 out of 3, and no restarts for any reason.
-You automatically advance to the next round, regardless of whether you win or lose.
-If you lose, then nothing happens.  Your score stays the same as it was before.
-If you KO DOAM, then you get 1 win and 1 KO added to your score.
-If you TKO DOAM, then you get 1 win and 1 TKO added to your score.
-If you survive 2 minutes with DOAM, then you get 1 win and 1 WBP added to your score (regardless of whether you actually got more points or not).

The effect of this is that most of the time, byes work the same as they always have and you simply advance without getting any wins.  But now, you have a small chance of getting a win if you can beat a really tough ByeBot.  I don't expect that to happen very often and it will be something special if it does.

It will also make Byes 1,000,000,000 times more fun, and it's an excuse to bring the Most Fearsome Opponent of BBEANS4 back into the arena

I still want to see how far 86 can get.  It was doing quite well before MM1 came to a screeching halt.

If you restart this, I will re-enter 86.

One thing if you do this, though.  Make sure you are prepared to deal with the bumps and snags that are associated with running a tourney.  AI mistakes will happen.  People will disagree with results.  Don't blame yourself for that stuff, just focus on what you're doing right and getting the thing done.  And you DID do a lot of things right; MM1 was very well organized.

I guess my "anti-candy" tactic didn't quite work.  After seeing some comments about "Splash of the Month" and "the bot should speak for itself" I wanted to see if I could win with a candyless splash.

Though there WAS some fierce competition for this one.  Core Drill is an awesome design (reminds me of Industrial Coal Miner in DSL).  If I didn't vote for Sage's bot which is also awesome, I would've voted for Core Drill.  So I think I did quite well for not having much of a splash to speak of.

Let that be inspiration for all you photoshopically-challenged members out there!

only thing I can suggest is a split section you have the "big league" and the "little league" newer members cant make any big league tournaments until a few successful little league tournaments are made.

that would give the "big league" section more prestige like what Scrap is after while not reducing the amount to the point the community is on life support  ;)

I like this idea.  You could put limits on the size of little league tournaments, say 16 bots or 32 at the very most, so the host doesn't bite off more than they can chew.  After they finish one or two little league tournaments they can make big league tournaments, which can be as big as you want since by that time the host will have experience.

Or, a simpler variant.  Just add to the general tournament rules a stipulation that your first tournament can be no bigger than 16 bots.  Your second tournament can be no bigger than 32, and after that it can be as big as you want.

Wait... that's actually pretty similar to the 4-bot test.  The 4-bot test is kind of like a mini 4-bot tournament.  Now that I think about it, that's a pretty good idea.

The mag still is somehow exposed, don't you think Mike ? :P

Hence the name Mr. Self Destruct

Actually I think it looks fine, any bot that wants to attack the motor has to get through the blade first, and if that happens you might as well tap out anyway.

And the armor looks awesome.  Only problem is, it would be rather difficult to replicate if I made a Mr. SD for DSL3...

I thought of that, but your drive and any other motors will run off that battery too.  It doesn't change the functionality of the piston at all, it would just make the bot look more realistic.  Which isn't a bad thing, I might decide to do it.  But I could just as easily require all bots using these pistons to have at least 1 regular air tank, just for looks, in order to be realistic.

I also want the realistic rules to be as simple as possible, which is why I'm not sure if I will require air tanks.

Why do so many people like to use Microwhirl's chassis?  You could make something more efficient than that.

That looks like a good rammer, but like any rammer you have to be wary of wedges, so don't get too confident just yet.

Exactly.  I tried putting "airmaxinoutrate" in the txt file, but it does nothing.  I even tried putting in "base = BurstPiston" and "base = BurstMotor" at the same time, but of course that didn't work either.

I could make a sham piston that uses CO2 that you must include on your bot in order to be realistic, but then nothing is stopping you from firing the burst motor even after your CO2 runs out.

If anyone comes up with any solutions to this, I'm happy to hear it.

I don't see any way to improve that bot.  There's only so much you can do with a chained LW HS and that bot does it.

No, I take that back.  It might be better if you could bring the weapon forward so it sticks out of the plow more.

And instead of using a T connector for the drive, use a sideways extender and just snapper load the birds in.

Better yet, just replace the Snapper with a baseplate anchor.  You don't need it for stacking; it's basically a 13kg baseplate anchor right now.

That will get you at least 7 kgs, which is a whole razor tip's worth.

Not a bad bot, just need to do something with that extra weight.
