JoeBlo: Have you ever watched BattleBots? I think there is some on Youtube.

Everyone else:
I'm pretty sure I had all the push and explode ones. I even had the Battlebox for the trigger ones. :) But I got it out last night, and I had modified it to say "Robot Wars" instead of "BattleBots". I can't imagine why I did that... seeing as I didn't really like Robot Wars. Young and dumb I guess...

Wow, I thought i had most of the RC bots, but Jeffery listed abunch more than I had. I wsh I had known there was a Mauler 5150 build kit, that sounds pretty awesome.

Mauler had the same problem as Ronin: the nuts were slightly too large for the bolts. Some of them could be forced into working, while others just wouldn't work. To fix this, I used a lot of duct tape.

As for the RC bots, if I remember right, there were two series. The Custom Series had the interchangeable parts with the common guts. The weapons worked automatically with the drive system. A spinoff of this series was the Custom Champions Series which included Dr. Inferno and Son of Whyachi. Both of them were pretty cool, though the SOW obviously didn't do much damage.

The second series was the Pro Series. These RC bots were quite a bit larger than the Custom Series bots. It came in two varieties: Biohazard and Diesector. These two bots had controllable weapons. Bioharzard's arm would lift and Diesector's jaws would open and close by holding down a shoulder button. They also featured a much improved drive system. Biohazard had six wheel drive (like the real bot) and Diesector had 4 (like the real bot). Unfortunately for Diesector, the hammers were not independently controlled. Those operated with the drive train.

Ahmet Zappa was one of the hosts. Quite a good show, though the combat portion was usually a bit lame.

Discussion / How Much Does a Hard Copy of RA2 Go For These Days?
« on: June 09, 2009, 12:49:44 AM »
I bought my copy for the full price. I pre-ordered it online, and it didn't arrive in the mail until a few days after the release.

As for RA1, I still have my copy around here somewhere. I've been thinking about installing that again. Sure, it was a pretty bad game with no physics, but I used to spend quite a bit of time playing it back in the day.

Frezal if you were scaly I would SO totally make love to you right now. :3

Thank you for the commendations - is that a Futurama character though? :P

It is indeed. He has been featured in two episodes, and one of the movies (though he's yet to speak).

I would just like to thank you for your contributions to this community over the years. These newcomers may not realize how much you've furthered the community, but us geezers do.

This message has been brought to you by The Space Pope!

Perhaps by today's RA2 society rules I am no longer a "legend" (this thread title was a stab at "legend" status in the first place, as is my profile information "Officially an RA2 has-been") but it doesn't mean that the work I put into this community is invalidated. That's like saying the Wright Brothers creations are stupid and boring because Boeing does it better. Boeing wouldn't be here today without the pioneering of the Wright Brothers, and dare I say RA2's community wouldn't be what it is today without the dedication and hard work of myself, goose, AW, dummee, SovereignII, ][cer, Chasethecheese, Cherry Flavored, Disturbed, Slider V, and everyone else who took it upon themselves to decode RA2 and lay the groundwork for future "generations" of players and modders to build upon.

edit: I hardly even recognize anybody in the "Veteran" usergroup as it is unless they are like Jeff (Frezal) and just have a new name.

Man, it's been far too many years since I've spoken to ][cer and Chasethecheese.

I pretty much agree with everything you've said about the realism vs stacking. Like you, I'm an old fashioned guy who still prefers to simulate robot designs that could actually exist. For this recent BBEANS tournament, I attempted to change my ways and start stacking, but I apparently didn't stack enough because I still got my ass kicked (though I guess I'm still alive in the loser bracket).

I appreciate having you veterans kicking around. Can we all gather around the campfire and you can tell us bot stories?

Stick to these forums, we all have a pretty good time still. This game is certainly not dead by any stretch of imagination, and heck, it is still evolving as we speak.

Even though I never met you before, welcome back.

Way back in the day, when RA2 was still just a demo featuring Nightmare, Yellow Buzzard, and I think a third bot, there were RA1 tournaments. The most feared bot around was a bot by N4S (Need4Speed) named TAWD (Tim Allen's Wet Dream). I took part in such a tournament. In the first round, my former newb self had to fight the great TAWD. When the match begun, he drove into a corner without attacking me. So I attacked and destroyed his bot. The results then popped up, but much to my surprise, it said that N4S won the match. "Now how could that be?" I asked. Apparently on his screen, the exact opposite occurred.

And that is why RA1's online play was so sh**ty.

I'm pretty sure we were all here (not here, but in the community) when the first DSL came out. I remember having it installed, and being around when it was announced that Lu-Tze had passed on.

Wow man, those are sweeeeet. It's funny I never stacked or any of that non-sense,

I ran into that problem when I returned here a couple months ago. All of these kids these days stack everything (without cheating too), and now I'm having to play catchup.

About AU: I was never actually banned from there, but I assume that was because I didn't post often. My main beef with the place was with allowing DaStompa to be a part of the administration. That guy was a tyrant and an all around douchebag.

Oh, I remembered another thing from AU I liked: the AU motors. I think I re-skinned my copy to remove the AU logos, but I appreciated the extra power. Those motors made fighting the Battlebots AI bots a little less hard.

I wish I knew more about this stuff, so I would know who's telling the truth....

AceUplink was essentially the Soviet Union during the Stalin era. If you disagreed with somebody like say, TDS (aka DaStompa), you would be banned or have your posts deleted/edited. It was a pretty terrible place.

The one redeeming factor of AU was the Battlebots AI pack. That was truly a piece of art...for its time.

Hello everyone,

Hello.

Quote from: MAD Scientist;42638
I was sitting here at my desk remembering back to the days where Aceuplink was the center of the RA2 universe.

Assuplink was never the center of the RA2 universe. The official forums were.

I have since discovered that the rich history of this game has been erased by our dear old friends @ RadioF's forums, whom have edited most open source information on the game and has claimed most of the credit for the progression of the community. The old real evidence of what AU did for this game can still be found in a FAQ @ gamefaq.com (which credits everyone that rightly deserves it).

Specifically what do you think you guys deserved credit for that you aren't receiving now?

STFU about GarageBand!  He doesn't have a Mac, so why would he need to know this?  Besides, do you really think GarageBand is the only program that has these basic audio editing features?
