While professional looks nice, the element of surprise is cool too. It is a bit of a sleeper.

Second? Nice!  Congrats Nate!

Or Ballasts... Naryar <3 Ballasts.

But, ummm... yeah.  Welcome to the forums. Looks like you are enjoying the game, which is cool.  You got a ways to go as far as learning new tricks to make your bots awesome.  Please take the time to look through the showcases and gain knowledge.

Would something like this be possible?:

(Image removed from quote.)

Think chassis wtih legs and a big disc underneath, like a giant spider or something? I tried making a bot like this before with Nightmare's struts but it didn't work.

I am a little late for making a suggestion but you could possibly get away with making the upper half of the chassis in that shape and then make legs out of various parts.  Similar to how I pulled off Megagross in the pokemon tourney. I think it could work, it would take a bunch of effort. (plus the legs wouldn't be the achilles heel of the bot due to immediate damage)  *pun intended*

Very nice IRL design. I imagine it is an absolute blast to face it in combat... and tear apart. Sooooo many pieces.  Good work!

Mercury Drone!!

Holy carp, I remember that thing. It's old as heck but still cool.
3 years isn't that old now :P
It's from a time before Ian's magical AW chassis, and it was built when I was still a noob, so it's old to me (and most of the other people who entered) at least.

Hahah! I rarely build anything in stock anymore.  But, I wanted to support Ian's tourney.  ;P

... and the antique got pwned.  XD

The turn radius must suuuuuuuck with that bot.  I give you credit for attempting a complex hybrid like that.  It's really difficult to nail.  I tried a setup like that once and it mega failed.

Entry sent.  Just had to make adjustments to it based on feedback in showcase.  All good now.

flippersegmentparadewheeeeee!!!

Wicked cool.  The flipper segments that act as wheel guards look kinda ugly.  Would be cooler if there was a way to protect the wheels with a more smooth transition.  I'm not sure what to recommend though. Got any weight to spare?

Burnout: Revenge - PS2
Congratulations, you read the thread title! Would you like a sticker? Now try reading the OP for homework.

god that was cancerous

But, incredibly justified, and I am almost tempted to up-rep as a result.

BOT:  Does it really have to be 360?  If you have a old PS2 then "Way of the Samurai" is pretty awesome.

You are aware than inner wheels like that decrease your turn speed, which is already pretty low with that drive and which is vital for such a design ? I am fully aware that you are doing this to protect them and for cool looks... but just saying.

Thanks for the advice.  I will take that into account when, perhaps, I make a design that is similar but aimed toward effectiveness.  :D

Updated bot:  Adjusted the the weapon "arms" to make them more realistic.  Overshot the weight limit which forced me to use Large Ant wheels... which actually look nicer IMHO. (didn't check the HP stats though)

Very nice bot. How did you do the rivets around the edge, is that a custom edge decal? Top notch skin.

Rivets around the edge are done with a paintbrush in photoshop.  Kind of time consuming... I am thinking about making a more detailed rivet that I can copy pasta or use the stamp tool in PS.

Looking nice. I'm not a fan of the wheel position, but it looks great aside from that. I'm wondering if it'd be even cooler if the spinner was to raise and lower on a servo arm in a Dustpan!-style fashion.

Haha! I like that idea.  Don't know if I could squeeze it into a lightweight though.  Maybe a MW version.

Looks really cool, but the flipper segments are not doing it any favors. If you could make it look like uniform roundbar with more round extenders it would be perfect.

Agreed.  I am not liking the flipper segments either.  I will fix that up before it gets submitted for the tourney (hopefully)

Thanks for all the feedback guys!  I'm kind of a fan with the wheel position.  I like to think that if the bot was truly a IRL design that having the wheels protected there would be pretty accurate.  If I try to embed them in the chassis, the bot gets fat, which I don't like.  (I just don't like the color of those wheels... hmmmm... might skin those if they don't have to be decompiled or any of that voodoo)

IRL Lightweight for 2L2Q3

Now that my old mac laptop is officially retired and I am up and running with the ancient iMac, I am able to skin bots again.  Which is inspiring me to build more.
