Discussion / Re: Robot Arena 3!
« on: March 19, 2016, 08:48:28 PM »
All of this begs the question: how exactly will GTM change as a result of RA3's release?

It might cause an influx of newbies, eager to discuss a game that just came out on Steam. If this is the case, then we ought to be kind to them, mostly to not draw any connections between us (Pre-RA3) and being holes of ass.

Or these people could do much of the heavy discussion on the Steam forum, largely leaving GTM alone. If this is the case, then what will become of GTM? Would it be largely abandoned or would it stay alive?

Or maybe a mixture of the two...

This is my favorite line in the whole post:
Quote
While these are not part of our initial plans for Steam Workshop, we have built the components/weapons and arenas in such a way that they can be modified and new ones created. Without the dedication of the mod community for RA 2 we wouldn't have an RA III.
It proves that some developers actually listen closely to the community, no matter how small either may be, which, in my books, is nothing short of uplifting.

literally all the same components from RA2 in trailer

is that good or bad
I personally don't mind. I am still buying this game on the 26th.

Hopefully there will be ways for people to add their own components and/or (hopefully NOT or) really cheap DLC. Either way, as long as we aren't stuck with the stock components, I am fine with them.

This is only between one quarter and one third of the magnets in the set. I don't have enough suffixes to make many good sentences, though. My personal favorite sentences are:
  • Could I finger the fresh woman lustfully?
  • Worship soft pink boys.
  • Make sex with a burning pet.

Somebody in my family thought it would be a good idea to purchase some fridge magnets:

Mind you, these are all from a Romance Edition magnetic poetry set.

Discussion / Re: Flippers
« on: January 31, 2016, 12:14:40 PM »
You are playing against a replica in DSL--replica, of course, refers to a real-life combat robot, usually from Robot Wars or Battlebots, remade in RA2 or one of its mods. In the game, these particular robots are often built using unusually strong parts that are normally inaccessible to the player. For example, the Judge Burst Motor, weighing about 25kg and demanding little electrical power, is about as powerful as a Spring-Loaded Beta Burst, which weighs 80kg and needs about 200 amps for more than one good flip. I have never examined the Thermidor replica itself, but I suspect it uses one of these very powerful motors, allowing it to flip bots more easily.

Another factor in this is the weight of the bot you are using. For as bad as the RA2 physics engine is, it still gets one thing right: that lighter objects are moved more easily than heavier ones. If you are fighting the replica with a lightweight, then it will surely get flipped multiple times. Even a heavyweight could get launched quite far due to the usage of strong motors.

I recommend that you make a showcase. The idea of a showcase is that a person displays pictures of their bots, the more experienced community members provide constructive criticism, and then the bot has improvements made to it. A thread like this is honestly not the best starting place for a new member like you. Perhaps by seeing your bots, we can give a more accurate answer to your question.

Welcome to Ironforge, DeadGenocide!

This bot needs some improvements, mainly to be legal in Ironforge. First thing's first: due to allowing the game to be more stable, Ironforge uses a unique, self-enforced weight class system from Stock and DSL. Namely, the weight class limits are as follows:
  • AW-70KG
  • BW-90KG
  • LW-125KG
  • MW-200KG
  • HW-400KG
  • SHW-600KG

Another thing about weight classes in Ironforge: If there are four or fewer ballasts on a robot in Ironforge, they do not count towards the total weight of the robot. This is to keep the robots, now with reduced weight, from flying off.

So to figure out the figure out the weight class, subtract the weight of the robot with ballasts from the weight of the ballasts.

As for the bot itself, the first improvement that should be made is switching out the dual firebirds for weaker motors, or just make them static weapons. Trust me when I say that for chicken drill weapons do NOT need motors that powerful. I would also recommend switching out the N-12s for minis if possible to improve wedge effectiveness.

Is that a plow on the back?

Why is there a plow on the back. lol

It's so it can semi-protect the rear. yet it's barely used :P

The plow on the back is not necessary because bots do not target each others' rears. The AI scripts that run the robots are not programmed to do this, and since all contemporary tournaments involve robots being driven by AI, most people simply forgo rear protection.

Modifications / Re: The DSL 2.2 preview and news thread

None of the standard (non-replica) AI bots were updated for 2.2, so BBEANS7 would be a great way to get bots for a standard AI pack.
For BBEANS 7, would you continue the old rankings from BBEANS 1-6 or start a fresh ranking system?

Discussion / Re: ironforge AGOD
« on: January 10, 2016, 03:35:50 PM »
hm.... maybe it's the component weight.

This reminds me of the dual diagonal VS that I built in DSL, which can be found in my showcase. It featured absolutely no glitch exploitation whatsoever, yet the hammers on the spinners suffered from horrible AGOD. A similar thing happened to my angled HS, Gray Ring of Death, except the AGOD is on a wedge instead of on the weapon motor. Both of these bots use Tornado Mer or 6-Mag motors, which have very high speed and low torque.

I too have yet to encounter AGOD in Ironforge, and that may be due to the low weapon weight, since heavier components seem more prone to AGOD than lighter ones.

A Vietnamese guy is in an American bar with his American friend trying to pick up an American woman. He asks the American friend what the secret to success is.
"Money," he says. "Tell a woman that you have lots of money and she will surely swoon over you!"
"Okay, I try that now. Thank you, thank you much." the Vietnamese guy said in response.

On the one true day of Christmas, my family gave to me...
  • IKEA dark chocolate
  • Waterproof backpack
  • Super Mario Maker for Wii U
  • Selmer S80 C* mouthpiece for my alto saxophone
  • A really nice shirt
  • Surface 3 tablet with a blue type cover and pen
  • $25 US

Also got some philosophy books I wanted because I'm a boring ass mother****er.

PHILOSOPHY is not boring! YOU are not boring! Go west, young Boby, and make this world awesome once more!

Appendectomy's narrow frontal armor worries me. Perhaps a better solution would be to turn the existing armor sideways so it is wider than it is tall. That way, HS and shell spinners are less of a worry.

Side note: against the grey background, I can't make out the flippermakers holding Nun Slayer's supports, so it looked like they were floating. lol.
