Online Battles / Need help with starting up gameranger for RA2
« on: February 01, 2014, 04:34:46 PM »
Ok, well to be on a tangent at the very start.

Dear god, I was obnoxious.

Now back to the topic, I have returned after gaining interest in RA2 again and this time around I'm going to be more involved in the game. I have some edited AI bots to show off in the Bot Showcase, but I want to see if I can set up multiplayer with gameranger first. Just a simple step-by-step tutorial would be nice, because all I can sya that I'm having trouble with is that it asks me to install the web flash player when I already have it installed (google chrome)
But yeah. Nice to be back c:

You have to mess around with the .exe file, I think. Nobody has been able to achieve this yet. So, unfortunately, no.

myth busted

but if you want music to play for each arena you'll have to copypaste the code from the musicbox arena to each and every other arena in it's corresponding place per arena
could you make a video on how to do this?

Jeff The Killer

Spin-a-Pound (Originally named BRVR)
And you think you can beat us with those bots?
*cough* Anyway, use DSA, and symmetrical Chassises. Axes sucks so I prefer Razors, Irons & Maces.
well now that i've seen the competition, no, but i'll take the advice

It's not like it can beat starcore bots...

Anyways, next time, you will post your bot pictures URL's between IMG tags like I modded your first post.
oh i know that, it just needs minor *major* improvements

and thanks

Weight and armour?

Also don't use pink batteries on Heavyweights(I take that is what the first one is) or Middleweights, Use black batteries.

Use Irons on the second bot instead of Axs(Use them only on rammers)

And way more weapons are needed to make the first bot more effective.
wait, jeff doesn't have pink batteries

NOTE. I HAVE DELETED THE FIRST TWO BOTS I WAS "SHOWING OFF" BECAUSE THEY ARE EMBARRASSING FAILURES. INSTEAD I AM GOING TO DISPLAY ME NEWER GENERATION OF BOTS.

Another thing before you look at my bots. My team's name is District 7 and respectively has ax-based weapons as a theme. Yes, I know that the small ax is not that good of a weapon but it works for me. Now, if I could get tips on alternatives that still correspond to my theme I will not reject these ideas.

To begin, I am showing my only bot. I stole the design off of Grog (stock) and just switched out the swinging weapon. I gave it a battleaxe to use as a static weapon on the back, and added ax pistons on the front with two Co2 containers. Not much is changed otherwise, and I am aware that it's cheap of me to steal an AI bot's design but its for me to get an idea of what I should use and how it works.

It's name is Mist.

OK, I don't usually do this whole welcome wagon thing. But for some reason nobody else will take the time to explain a few things that you're obviously somewhat confused about.

First of all, let me explain that online battles rarely happen anymore due to the limitations of the game. If they do happen, they usually occur over Hamachi or Gameranger. These are programs that create a Local Area Network (LAN) between the computers of the competitors. If you had looked around the forum a bit more before posting, you would have seen the threads for these programs in this very section of the forum. I have pinned these topics for ease of viewing in the future, however for your purposes I will link you to those threads which contain all required information:

https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,2357.0.html Hamachi
https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,9625.0.html Gameranger

Now, let me point you in the direction of our challenge board. This can be found via the tournament section of the main page. Here, challenges can be issued between players. Robots are AI'd (like the robots you already fight in your game) and are pitted against each other. This AI battle helps to eliminate lag issues that would normally be found during online play. More information is in the challenge board section:

https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/board,101.0.html Challenge Board

Finally, let me recommend to you that you start reading up on the information we have compiled over the life of the community. Good sources of information include the RA2 Wiki (Seen above) as well as the showcase section of this forum. There you will find some great and some not so great examples of where bot building has taken us in the past decade. This would likely be helpful for you to review before you go running your mouth and issuing challenges, just so you know what kind of thing you would be getting yourself into. Some good showcases to look at include Sage's, Giece's, Nightcracker's, Vertigo's, Clickbeetle's, etc. You could also start your own showcase so you could learn the tricks of the trade.

To put it bluntly, if you still believe taking out EMERGENCY with a lightweight is a great feat, you've got quite a bit of catching up to do.
also, could i get a link to the software too?

I have a kickass lightweight bot named spin-a-pound on the original robot arena 2 game, it has even taken out emergency, so i feel confident it can take out your lightweight, middleweight, and if im lucky, heavyweight

Let me know if you want to set up a match, thx
