« on: October 29, 2016, 01:07:31 PM »
BTW guys, I wrote this AI line myself, tested it in my game, ot worked, and then I sent it to him. I also had sent him one woth Popup.py and it didn't work, so I believe it doesn't have anything to do with the binding line itself as they were working 100% in my game.

This is true. As had Redace.

I can get both bots to work using Omni. Which leads me to think that it must be something in the Flipper2/Popup files that is causing the error.

Both files are up to date and in the correct folder.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I should point out that "Big Hammers" name has been shortened for ease of reference as the name is fecking huge and it's copied exactly from the bot files in both cases, even if it doesn't exactly match the splash, i'm confident this isn't the issue.

I'll try the space suggestion first off.

Recording has begun, but I am still struggling with two of the entries.

I have requested help in the AI forum.

This is becoming real tiresome hosting this tournament now lol!

I've run into another snag. Three of the entrants use a custom AI File. I have the standard pack if you like containing popup, flipper2 etc. But the AI lines im using crash the game, well at least I assume that they are the cause of the crashes.

Here are the facts:

- All three bots load fine into the bot lab and I can drive all 3 without any issues.
- All three bots can be selected in the team preview as AI opponents
- All three bots can load into the map.
- The countdown starts. 3. 2. 1. Crash.

With the following error message:

Here is my AI folder with all corresponding files:

Here are the lines of AI code that don't seem to work.

Code: [Select]
list.append(("You Wish I Was A Girl!","Flipper2",{'nose':math.pi,'UseSrimech':1,'invertible':False,'range':50,'radius':1,'topspeed':100,'throttle':100,'turn':100,'turnspeed':4,'UseSrimech':0,'EnemyMoveRadius':1,'EnemyMoveTime':3,'PrioritizeFlipper':0,'NoChassisTime':3,'SrimechInterval':1,'weapons':(0,)}))
Code: [Select]
list.append(("Big Hammer","Popup",{'nose':math.pi*2,'invertible':False,'radius':1,'topspeed':130,'throttle':120,'turn':65,'turnspeed':1.1,'NoChassisTime':2,'RunUpsideDown':0,'weapons':(0,)}))
It should be noted that I can reference Omni and EternalSnowy fine. But popup and Flipper2 don't work. Could it be the smart zones? I am honestly clueless now.

I was told by Redace that yugitom had a similar problem a few months ago if anyone had helped him resolve that?

Thanks for the replies guys

Turns out my Mad Smart Zones files hadn't been copied over correctly (I took a fresh copy of RA2 and re-installed everything), issue resolved  :thumbup

Please excuse the double post.

Signups closed. Entries accepted. Lets move this forward!

(ignoring the fact that the official GTM tournament will completely overshadow it haha)

So is this going anywhere?

It is. I under-estimated how little free time I'd have now I'm back at work, football and gym, but i'm still moving this forward. I've posted a 'help me' post in the Tips and tutorials section as I can't get the bots with flamethrowers to import into the lab.

I've received exactly 8 entries though, so i'm closing sign ups at least.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll have a look at the text files when I get home.

The game crashes when I try to import the bot to the lab; the same error has occurred before when I've tried to import a bot when I didn't have smart zones installed, so I assumed it was me missing a component file or something.

Hey guys, i'm hosting a tournament and a couple of the designs have the flamethrower component and I cant seem to get these bots to load.

I have the latest 1.4 Robot Arena Version from the download section and I have the following add-ons installed:

- Ring Arena
- Action Cam
- Mad smart zones

Is there an additional component I have to install to get these parts to work? I was under the impression the flamethrower should just work with the 1.4 version?

Cheers,

Hey guys, I have returned from holiday.

I have received a number of extra entries so I may have to disappoint a few people...  :(

I will begin reviewing everyone's designs and getting this underway shortly!

32
I'm surprised that my bot got in 5th, given how I sent it in as soon as possible.
Looking at the recent stock showcases, I think that my bot will really have a bad time with those.

Mixed thoughts about the weaponed flipper, for one "come on, we have a tournament and the next similar thing to a popup gets entered", on the other hand weaponed flippers are rather rare and the only real way to make flippers win stuff outside of OOTA's, so it should be all good to enter.
As usual, the stacking amazes me.

Me too mate, the response has been incredible! You really were number 5 to send in a bot :laughing (including me).

I had mixed thoughts about the weaponised flipper as well, but to me it is a unique design (when do we see flippers?) and gives the bot a way to win without relying on an OOTA. It's certainly taken more skill to build than a pop-up as well so I think it's fair game.

33
could I enter something that's a low wedge with guite a few motors and for weaponry it has a bunch of spike strips on the wedge?

Send it in and I'll review it mate!

I'll let you know if I have any issues with the design.

Hey Yugi,

Great to finally see a thread on this and some form of update that lets us know that the cogs are still turning with this big idea of yours.

From what I have mentioned before, I still maintain that having this sort of tournament more frequently than once a year (Bi-annual, for example) would be better, but I know you want to make this more of a grand occasion, so whatever. But if it comes to it, I will vote for more than once a year.

As for the suggestion to make the format Retooled: excellent idea, level playing field etc. 100% behind you there.

Prizes? Custom components would be a great way to start. Pre-stacked supervolts, niftys with a CB in them, maybe even something unique like double strength extenders or a little flag that says “*Tournament name* Finalist/Winner” etc, the flag could weigh 0.0Kg and just be for show (maybe even have it as a Decal?). A banner on the homepage of the current podium would certainly help too.

Big supporter of rankings and custom forum titles as well. Let’s get people excited about earning something!

I think a seeding system would also be beneficial, as in a seeding system JUST for this tournament. Let’s make this as big and as successful as possible.

35
Entry from Geice received.

36
can I enter a weaponed flipper like this or is too close to a popup
(Image removed from quote.)

This tournament is supposed to bring out the creativity in us. I feel this design is unique enough to compete if you want buddy  :thumbup

Also, entries from:

Badger
Silverfish
Redace
and R01

all received, will check them soon and notify if any issues.

37
Dont see why not  :thumbup

38
Many thanks Yugi.

Good luck everyone, as the initial post states, i'm away from the 21st so won't be around for a while, but get building!

Not sure that the switch to plastic for HP drive would be worth, especially considering I'd have to make the chassis larger. The problem with it ATM is the normals combined with the fact that it gets raped by HS, I think.

Surely by using a weapon without normals it would actually start causing damage back to the HS's, second, I find having faster, harder drive to get under a HS is often beneficial because if you're under them they can't hit you.

Isn't hi5er's tournament heavyweight?

This

How does it play out in testing, the weapon reach looks a little shallow and the wedges look a little narrow.
