Discussion / Re: RA2 Wiki
« on: April 01, 2016, 06:14:27 AM »
I agree in regards to the member pages. The issue with deleting the tutorials as well would then be the question of what use is the wiki for?
Personally, if that was the route taken, I think it could be useful as a compendium of mod and individual part information perhaps. Either way it just seems a shame to me that its seemingly abandoned, maybe i'm just bein sentimental haha.

Impressive early work dude, hope you stick around.
Nice idea and shape, I would say however that it can be neater, and with the actual weaponry, it seems you've opted for more of a balance between aesthetics and damage. Im sure you could make a more appealing weapon disk to suit the IRL style of the bot.

Maybe we should just all agree that rep is like religios belief, everybody has one, some people care too much about it, and in the end it really doesnt matter anyway.

Hey MM, if dsl2.2 hasn't resparked your interest hopefully RA3 will (and everybody else's interest for that matter).
Back on topic and I don't believe rep is particularly important at the moment. In the past people seemed to get more wound up about it, but I think that the coloured titles are more obvious signs of reputation to n00bz nowadays.
It may do little/no good, but i dont see how it does any harm since it shouldnt take long for newcomers to be able to seperate the helpful posters from the attention-seekers themselves, so is it even worth removing?
If you want the rep system to be more relevant again, then maybe it should be available to all so it can police itself, or have a set amount of reps per year for each user, or even perhaps reset it on a yearly basis. There are many more options for reform rather than removal.

I remember the wiki being helpful for me when i first joined and the tutorial pages where still relevant. Perhaps there should be an effort to fix up the wiki?
I imagine many newbs flock to it only to be dissapointed with outdated info.

What everyone else has said is all good, obviously. The shield is redundant, but who knows if you could make it a hell of a lot larger it could be used to trap bots lolz
Innovation is always important, but it needs to be twinned with, at the very least, a solid approach to efficiency. Otherwise your innovative concepts will never realise the potential they could have.

Online Battles / Re: Ironforge online matches?

I remember last time i tried online, think we gave up after like one game, its just not worth it with all the lag sadly. Probably best to just wait for ra3 dude

First time i've seen this, looks interesting. I appreciate the multi-AP approach, flexibility in item placement is always fun.

Yea I figure it's not too likely, like I said bots should be easy to re-create anyway so it's not really that big a deal. I just thought it looked like a cool possibility when I saw that.

Glad to hear about the mod support though. Funny they mention how it would affect the balance of the game. And they're right, but were there really that many one hit kill weapons and things made for the game? I can't recall any really. None that were widely used. There were stronger armors and things to attach to your bot to protect yourself, and there weren't too many weapons that did that massive of damage either.

EDIT: But yea I think I like the approach these guys are taking with this. I'm still not so sure about the release date, but if they think they can pull it off by then that's awesome.

Yup, will be interesting to see people's recreations of old bots/concepts, as well as replicas of course.

I imagine the best approach available to them to stop people taking OP custom components into online games would be to have a handler in the game to detect modded components. Then again i agree that i doubt most of the ra2 community would resort to chest components, but i get there concerns over newer players in particular abusing open modding.

Also from the video and the screenshots it appears you can paint your bot in every color as long as it is white
Very likely not implemented yet. :P

So on the topic of backwards compatibility (was last mentioned two pages ago) as cool as it would be it doesn't look like it would be that hard to remake a stock bot (without all the AAM and other building tricks) if one wanted to. It looks like you might not want to perhaps, but i'm sure there's some designs that would be nice to have in the newer game still. The importing would just make that easier. But doing that might be a little harder than it sounds like it would be.
I highly doubt that kind of backwards compatibility will be available, though what do I know, maybe somebody did manage to get a hold of the RA2 source code after all.

I have basic modelling and texturing experience i've not really made any use of, if RA3 can live up to the hype, I'm sure i wouldn't be the only worm crawling out of the woodwork.

Stock Showcases / Re: Lightning's Robots

Oh hi there.
Personally I've no interest in stock but its a great thing to see a new AI pack being released for it though.
Some really cool looking bots in there too, C5 and N2 are probably my favourites.

Potential Backyard Shredder in progress?:

I'm not really a fan of the old one's wedged spinner design honestly, so here we have an SnS, HS, because experimentation.
Crazy damage output, but I feel like the weaponry (Mechavore disks, not Microvores) is too out of line with the theme. Maybe I should shoe-horn maces in?

I like it a lot dude angled, upside down plows are always nice.
If the wedge is only poly, if you could upgrade it to aluminium its golden...or white you know, because snow.

eeeehh personally the wheels are too big imho.

he needs the big wheels for invertability
I know but it just screams HS fodder to me.
Yup, original version had technos with irons on the sides, but switched to ford wheels so it didnt get beached when its flipped.
At least they have a lot of hp as far as wheels go

wait, how does it extend it's weaponry ? is the whole weapon on a single linear actuator ?

intredasting anyways
Yup.jpeg
If you look at the top and bottom you can see the weaponry moves behind the plow.

So I've always wanted to use the linear actuators for a weapon system:

HW, Titanium 3, the idea behind it is that it can wram an opponent, then extend its weaponry to allow it to hold/damage the other bot further.

P.S spike strips are sexier than razors...
