Is that all ya gotta do? Cool. I need to build something that isn't a turd first.

Nobody:
Me: KILLERTRON So yeah I finally made Killertron because I could. I like it. It can't self right or last 3 minutes if you keep firing the axe, but I like it. It is slow and wobbly and can't get a KO, but I like it. Its also pink. As for the insides, It's not totally IRL, since the control board is IN THE MOTORS but it was hard to place right with all the other stuff there. I could move it. But I won't. Axe is BFE'd to have about 180° swing on a BSG motor to give it that Series 1 power. Axe shaft is also bent for that extra bit of authenticity. The armour is plastic 5, like the bin it was originally made out of. 25

Its new bot time, and this time, I HAVE TWO (omg)
First up is an obvious rip off of Mouse Trap... RatTrap! This triangle is fast, strong and actually quite good, I am genuinely surprised with how good it is in battle (not AI'd it yet though). Facts about the thing:
And now that you're reeling from the sheer wow factor of literally a wedge, have this. THE SPANK TANK It spanks, and its a tank. Facts about The Spank Tank

General Support / Damaged AI« on: June 30, 2019, 05:06:35 PM »
Helo
I have noticed that some AI bots start pre-damaged in the game. Some default ones such as HWs Snow Job and Wide Load (DSL 2.2) and some bots I have AI'd myself. They look like they have already been dented and such, however the damage is consistent and appears every time the AI bot is used. Does anyone know how to fix this? Chers 28

Hey look at that, the video is up!
Here's how I made this bot, hope you got 35 minutes to spare. Quickly becoming my favourite showcase on here! That Wowot is amazing!People in my comments section are sending me demands to join a thing that you seem to run. 29

From a video that is currently rendering, I bring you Wowot. It's made of many extenders and is my first foray into BFE. When the building video is uploaded I'll link it in this post so you can all see how it actually came to be.
Its a MW, and it functions at least. May be able to AI it too. I'm going to throw this on the Bot Exchange for anyone who wants to faff around with it. 30

Other Tutorials / The Events.txt« on: June 27, 2019, 01:01:35 AM »
So, as we all know, in DSL the standard AI events in the teams break a lot. A few load oddly or just sort of don't work. There are also some odd-ball arenas that just aren't my own tastes or are bad for YouTube worthy battles (yes, I am that sad).
I went and modified the events.txt file to try and make crashy events not crash and change some arenas around. Sometimes, my fix worked. Managed to get some arenas to load instead of the intended ones, and it fixed a crash or two. And then sometimes I run an event and it kills RA2 dead and it won't even start up again, even when the old unchanged events.txt is replaced. Basically, I'm stumped. If anyone knows what's happening, or how to make an events.txt that doesn't crash all the time (or has one with just simple arenas like Tourney, RoboGames and Robot Wars 2016), that would be grand! Behold a bot. Its a box with an axe. It's not much, but I really kinda like the Series 3 aesthetic of it. Going to keep trying to improve this concept, it has potential.
Midnight is an axebot in the middleweight class. The extender armour is all Aluminium, the chassis within is Plastic 1... So yeah that. HERE'S SOME PICTURES I like it. It actually does damage too, which is cool. 33

Behold, a build I actually put effort in.
Armour: Alu 3 Weight: 398.7 Rejector Things about it: It wedges rather well, it uses a 40cm wedge on the end of a hinge mounted 40x40 steel armour thing. Its FAST and kinda out of control. The armour is poor and that's sort of a major weakness. It throws things very far. As for IRL... it can swing both ways. The motors' placement is questionable, but I think that the armour plates could be slotted out to accommodate for the NPCs. 34
DSL TC Showcases / Re: SteveM4's stuff« on: June 19, 2019, 04:41:22 AM »
I have found while working on a few builds that I absolutely cannot make an effective (IRL) wedge. Anything I attempt seems just to bonk against the AI (RedAce's Pack) and not get under. The two bots just sort of sit there, bonking.
So, basically, how do I make effective wedges that lie within the IRL ruleset, as I gather components and balancing of wedginess has been improved. I have even been outdone by chassis wedges, so I am dumbfounded. 35

What is the ballpark for a MW motor these days... A TWM seems the logical choice, though NPC motors used to be my go-to motor for moving stuff.

I've been a browsing and I'm getting dangerous amounts of ideas. I believe I can make this design concept work but it will take an entirely different approach to see it happen.

I have noticed the general trend is towards ultra IRL builds, and I really dig that because they look so cool. I'll have a cheeky look at what you got there to see what styles of the meta I can apply to future builds.
With this one though to be honest, the aim was to build a bot to destroy stuff, and to do a full build in 20 minutes for a YT video. While I like the concept of the spinning axes and outside Perm, the execution shows that it was rushed. Cheers for heads up about the style changes. 38
DSL TC Showcases / Re: SteveM4's stuff« on: June 15, 2019, 05:56:53 AM »
I am glad you like the bot. I'll see what I can do about making a video for it at some point.
Doesn't look like a rep TR.<snip> Here's the original next to the replica. All I am missing is the polycab back and the text on the flipper. Also, here are some mid build screenshots of a MW spinner, because the F11 key is just that inviting. Final armour was Steel 3, and it sits right on the edge of the MW class at 391.5. Wedge is... not needed to be honest. Are we allowed to post videos here? Just threw one up on my channel of this guy fighting RedAce's AI pack and then the game went all floaty. 39

Hey all. First things first.
I am an old member of GTM, and with many thanks to Hoppin, have managed to get my old account back, albeit with a new name and everything in an attempt to distance myself. With their permission, I have set up a new showcase as the old showcase has not been updated in over 3 years, and was also full of really awful things (not only robots), so I am trying not to bring that up again. You can find the old showcase here, if you really want to, but I advise against it. Now that's out the way, here's a robot. Details you are hungry for: Armour: Alu 3 Weight: 396.5 Made using component freedom and the IRL packs. It functions similar to the original, however it's wedge is dire against RedAce's AI pack. 40

Why does it feel like the game uploaded to steam is an early build they had. The UI in the trailers and concept art are way better than the 'final' version.
