Interesting design. Reminds me of Spawn Again a little. Why the gap in the front of the flipper?

Discussion / Re: Questions About RA2 Building
« on: June 29, 2013, 02:33:16 PM »
1) In terms of building the bot, probably anywhere between one and two hours. Depending on things like complexity, weightclass and so forth. Around 5 to 10 minutes tends to be how long I take getting the chassis right. Probably another 10 to 30 minutes for the skin on top of that.

2) I think the trickiest one to build for me was HaleStorm 8. Mostly due to all the glitching required, the AGOD that I encountered, and finding exactly the right extender setup for it all to fit together properly. Being a Heavyweight probably made things trickier, working out how to use all the weight in the most effective manner. But I definitely think it's all worked out in the end, it's great to see how far it's progressed from starting out as a Rebel 2 clone.

3) My favourite Stock bot of mine is probably HaleStorm 8 or Schizophrenia 3. It had a great run in Awesumsauce's tournament, luck went against it in the final, but it still managed to be pretty innovative for a bot type that perhaps normally hadn't.

In terms of DSL, I'd say my favourite would be either Taur 2, Puncture III or Ion. I still think Taur 2 is the best IRL bot I've ever made, Puncture III was, I thought, quite a clever and well-rounded BW, and Ion winning both a BotM and Tournament is a pretty good achievement to me. =)

LOL. I remember that one. Annoyingly all the ones I made seem to have disappeared from my computer.

General Support / Re: Problems with UI
« on: June 28, 2013, 02:14:33 PM »
I don't know if you can resize things, or if you can you need to do more than I know how to. I think you're unable to change the file size of it, though, so if it's something like 48.0KB, then the file needs to stay 48.0KB, otherwise the game won't be able to read it correctly, and it comes up looking like that. I've encountered this with decals and the Octagon Arena reskin I was doing recently, as well as the UI I've been messing around with, so that'll probably be what's wrong with it.

Right, back again. Did I miss anything?
Welcome back :D
What did you do to get yourself muted?
Uploaded comedic Stick-Figure Porn of Nary and Jonzu in the "Are you Bored?" thread. Just did it for laughs, really.   :P
Ah, well there's your error. =P

That looks pretty good. I remember building something similar a while back, it should be more durable and more table, I reckon.

Nice. What does it look like at the back? Perhaps you could add a thwacking tail, kinda like SWARM or that one Pwnator made with the 70kg hammers.

I doubt it'll be completed in time for that, but I could tell you how to disable the hellraisers, if that's what you're wanting to do.

So this is what I've been getting up to recently.

Working on a redone Octagon Arena. Started off with a reskin, making it look slightly more awesome, I'll probably finish it off at some point.
I've also gone into the .py file for it, and disabled the Hellraisers. Hammers and pit covers still work when the hazards are on, but the Hellraisers don't fire anymore. They just got in the way far too often, in my view, especially with being slap bang in the middle of the arena. They're now static and say "Access Panel". They could house things like electricals for the pit covers or something.

----Things to do----
> Keep the pit covers closed for longer. Couldn't quite find it in the .py.

Few things that would also involve messing with the GFM a fair amount. I couldn't quite find the page that told you what everything in it did.
> Get rid of the Hellraisers altogether.
> Flatten the pit covers.
> Remove the striped bars and allow robots to drive freely onto the second level.

I had a go at flattening the pit covers, and making the Hellraisers transparent and perfectly flat, but when I tried to compile the GMF file I just got a black screen, followed by the noise of the crowd and my robot after a few seconds. I could still move the cursor around, and do the movement and weapons controls, but I just got the sounds of the motors and bursts firing and such. Just a black screen with a cursor. Hopefully that doesn't happen the next time I have a go.

Any other arena tweaks, reskins and such I do will go in here, when I learn to do more stuff.

It seems okay. You need to explain the structure of the tournament, and what happens with regards to things like Havok Explosions before this can get the green tick.

Got rid of a caster in the middle, had enough weight to make the arms twice as long. Everything else is the same.

Yep. Motors holding wedges aren't supposed to do anything, they're just there so you can get underneath your opponent. You should only have them firing if you need them to self-right. As for the weapons, you've got quite an inefficient extender setup holding the razors on. What you might want to do is attach two of them in an L shape to the DDT, so you've got three attachment points facing away from the DDT. You might want to try eFFe glitching the razors on so you can have them facing the same way. Basically fire the weapon before you attach it, so that the component will appear to be floating in space when it is attached. This is very useful in this situation, as well as making things like 36HS. =)
