Real Robotics Discussion / Re: Robotics Questions MEGATHREAD« on: March 13, 2019, 06:34:24 PM »Do you guys know any in-depth combot making guides that are up-to-date? The Riobotz one is from way back in 2009 and the world has changed a lot since then. The basics on the whole have not changed much. Components and methods have more-so. The discussions of brushed vs. brushless motors and how specifically to construct a robot are generally lost on someone without the understanding of robots and engineering that it provides. It taught me everything I needed to know in about 2016 to get me started, and know the questions to ask to get myself up to speed. Other good resources: Robert Cowan's youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPOTPYuDsKnXP9I-ph4yMgg Charles Guan's legendary Instructables guide https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Build-your-Everything-Really-Really-Fast/ 23

Robot Rumble 2.0 / Re: Robot Rumble 2.0 - Robot Combat Simulator - Under Development« on: January 01, 2019, 05:49:03 PM »please please please do NOT allow parts to clip. We already have one buggy game that does this when it never should have in the first place. We want to have to put thought into where components are placed, otherwise we might as well just build stuff in CAD. Ahhhhhh I see, it makes sense that it would be far too detailed of a model. Otherwise, I don't think we're doing anymore than 2000 on the real robot, but even then it would still likely be too fast. Either way, I'm excited to play with it as it progresses. 27

We already have one buggy game that does this when it never should have in the first place. We want to have to put thought into where components are placed, otherwise we might as well just build stuff in CAD. A pretty standard output from all sorts of CAD packages is a .dxf file, which is generally a 2D output of a part. Being able to import .dxf files and set the scaling/sizing on them somehow, and extrude them to a given thickness, would be an amazing and easy to use tool in comparison to the usual process of getting new parts into RA2. Like I have a lot of spinning bar ideas that I'd love to test out, but don't want to spend the money/time/effort to test them in the limited environment of real robotics. This would let me do a great apples to apples comparison. 28

Incredibly obscure because it's a pink blatant Minotaur/Touro Maximus ripoff from a Chinese TV show that's hard to find

We did! One of those was still usable, only had one cut in it. But we swapped it out anyhow.
