Modifications / Chassis pack?
« on: November 12, 2009, 07:08:25 PM »
I think it'd help for those who wish to start out with RA2, and then they may look at robots that compete well to see what they want to build. Either way, bots that are already up for download can be easily modified. I admit that I've studied some of the bots and why they are built this way. Heck, I even have a few for people to study in the AI Pack (such as SCRAMJET and PlayMaker, which I forgot about).

For those who don't agree. You have valid points, but it's not going to help if other robots can be downloaded and redesigned. That alone is also a tool to learn, but also a tool to just have a bot built easily. It can be done already. Having a chassis pack wouldn't do much more harm than already done with downloaded bots that are built with great power and performance.

If a chassis pack is to be made, maybe it would help to have them be less effective than the better competing chassis. It would also help to just have the control unit and the drive train set-up so that people don't have to take time to line up the wheels. However, they will still fall prey to the better competing designs due to their efficient amount of well used space.

The first one is mine, and yes. I did take a gander at SCRAMJET and turned it into a Heavyweight. That is one of the two bots that I have been inspired to make (Well, I admit that SCRAMJET was a simple rebuild compared to the second inspiration). Haptic and Haptic Heavy were inspired by Enfiliad's design in BBEANS.

This AI pack is for a local tournament and these were just the bots that I have built/rebuilt for it. Some of them have weaknesses (Backlash) and some are just beastly (like BARoque, and that is my newest design). Some were built for a past tournament, but it never took off due to the lack of time in my part.

Yeah, I've been roaming/lurking around. I can't wait for DSL 3 to come out so that I may make a tournament for it, and it will be much more realistic lol. Though still, it probably won't be GTM based.

Edit

About Backlash being in there, notice the very large amount of cheating in the armor section :P. I have studied the effects of component armor versus regular armor, and recently I checked the "Mythbusters" armor topic to find that my studies are pretty much true. I added the super heavy option to let people study this same effect. This will help people learn that heavy chassis armor isn't the best option, even for a super small chassis.

I also would like to thank the community, and though I haven't done much for it, I have learned and studied a lot from here. I must say that this community has a lot that can be learned by both the tutorials and the people around here. I haven't checked out so much other than the RA2 sections, I have to say that this community is well built for it's main purpose. I can't think of ways to really give back, but I will say that I must thank the community and I hope to become more of a part of it.

For now, I'm going to work on my DSL "realistic" skills and try to bring this to DSL 3. Expect me to be a part of the AI tournaments then. Take care.

Modifications / RA2 Chaos Mod
« on: November 12, 2009, 05:50:14 PM »
Ahhh. you found it XD.

I built the old Chaos AI Pack back in the days of AceUplink. This new AI pack is for a local tournament which has a lot of changes to the DSL mod, including components. I never did finish the UI, but the AI and non-cheatbot2 components are started well.

I will have a new version loaded up for the UI changes later on. Though I'm not going to do too much more to it. One other thing about it is that the regular smart-zones do not work, but the DSL ones do.

Just sent in my n00b bot from my old AI Pack lol, so it should qualify as N00bish XD.

Modifications / LRA2 AI PACK
« on: August 24, 2009, 03:55:30 PM »
Maybe someone such as myself who has tried to do this before (Mr. Chaos AI Pack) should try to explain.

Maybe it's best to try to do one thing at a time, and the best thing to do is to narrow yourself to building DSL bots first. Although I don't touch RA2 so much as I used to, I still try to build. Sure, I don't showcase as much as the others and post as much, but I've been into the RA2 community since Aceuplink. I know that I've been basically yelled at about my pack almost the same way that yours is. I sorta regret making that pack after it was done.

The main line is this, just try to improve your bots and narrow your work down to that for now. When you see that the others approve of your work, then do a project or better yet, contribute to another person's project.

Ahh. I have also tried this. I believe that this game isn't compatible with WINE yet. I tried this twice on my Ubuntu 8.10 computer with WINE and it didn't work, as I had the same problem with not being able to click.

I don't think that WINE is going to work for RA2 for a long while.

Discussion / Frame related ideas
« on: March 14, 2009, 06:24:45 PM »
Yeah, that would be a very good idea for race mode. I would suggest maybe some thinner extenders. I know that there is one type of extender that's very thin, but I'd like to see thinner extenders that have the 4 different types of materials.

I think already there is enough for DSL, but that one suggestion has been bugging me a bit. I ended up taking the poly extenders and making them a bit thinner for an Antweight rollcage idea.

It would be interesting to go over the 7 parts limit so that the parts fall off like tiny pieces like real robotics. Plus race crashes would be interesting with tiny parts all over the floor.

DSL TC Showcases / My DSL Attempts

Who knows? Maybe I can do well in a tournament with this one. For now though, I'm not going to go into any tournaments. BBEANS 6 sounds like a plan. I'll update this bot tomorrow.

Thanks. I'm trying to make it as realistic as possible. That was my main goal at first. There are a slight amount of empty spaces that I'll work on later. I also forgot what armor that I used lol. I'll add that information later.

I usually make Heavyweights, but I think with this mod and with realism in mind, I should just mess around with Lightweights first. I'll update this one tonight or maybe tomorrow with first removing the empty space without ridding of too much space. My main concern for removing chassis space is having the motor balanced so that it won't tip to the floor and render the blade useless.

Ahh. Well, okay. I didn't know they had a bot like that. That's pretty cool.

I haven't played DSL 2.1 in a long time, or Robot Arena 2 for that matter. I have messed with some UI stuff for my original RA2, but I haven't really started to create bots again. Finally after seeing a lot of progress here, I might as well put at least one of mine.

The bot Attempt uses a horizontal bar with medium drum beaters for the weapon. So far this is just my first DSL build for a long time. I'm sure there are many improvements to be made. I have made it as low as possible without the blade hitting the ground. I also hear many good things about the Hypno wheels, at least for speed.

The batteries used are 2 Red Battlepacks and 5 ant batteries. I'm not used to the DSL mod itself, and I'm not used to the realism behind it, but I'll learn within time. One thing that I know would be rejected about this bot is that it is a lightweight, and it's using a Perm 45 for a spinner motor. That kinda ruins the realism thing lol.

Will there be attachment points on the Whyachi extender to add those red bars that were on SOW?

Discussion / Nightmare's teeth not doing damage all the time
« on: February 22, 2006, 11:06:28 AM »
Why isn't Nightmare doing damage all the time when it hits any bot? I figured that this might be fixed in 2.0, unless there was a reason to it.

Velociraptor rocks. I like the other two also, but Velociraptor just rocks. Great job with that team. I'd say that's the best team yet.
