So... what's going on with this tournament?  May 15th is come and gone and there's all of 2 entries.

I did make a HW Ludicrous Speed for this, and it's a decent enough bot when I'm driving it, but it fails as AI.  So I don't think I'll be entering this, unless you're still going on with this and are desperate for entries.

I've got half of the entries AI'd now!

This week is going to be less busy than the past couple weeks, so I should make some significant progress.  I might even finish the AI'ing if I don't encounter any unforeseen snags along the way.

However, the week after I'll be traveling on a native bee survey trip.  So I'll try to get as much AI'ing done this week as possible, so I can get the splash up before I leave.

With that in mind, I'm thinking I'll lock down entries at the end of this week.  No more changes and no more updates, unless absolutely necessary.  You've all had plenty of time now to tweak your bots.  Once entries are locked down, I'll be able to post a splash of all the bots, even if I haven't finished AI'ing.

We'll make it official and say Friday May 21 is the last day you can change/update your bots.

And now for a little off-topic interlude.

Wait, what? Solitary bee nests ? Aren't solitary bees supposed to be... well, solitary (they lay one egg in a single underground lair, AFAIK) and not to live in nests like many other Hymenoptera ?

"Nest" doesn't need to refer to a social structure.  The "underground lairs" of ground-nesting bees are usually called nests even though they are maintained by just one bee.  In my case, I set up blocks of wood with holes in them, which (hopefully) bees will nest in.

We now return to your regularly scheduled thread.

I think these parts personally should become Hidden = 2 so they are usable but not allowable

Some would argue that if the Snapper II is allowed, there's no reason not to allow the 140 cm extenders.  And I have to say they would be right--both require only a slight .txt edit to unlock, and no stat editing.

If the 140 cm extenders are banned, it would need to be because they were found to be too good and an agreement was reached, not for anything to do with the method of unlocking them.

Just pull out your 3.14-ston.

Wild SFTW used Chew!

It's not very effective...

3.14-ston used Poke!

The wild SFTW was flipped!

The wild SFTW is flipped!  It can't move!

3.14-ston used Havok Explosion!

Look a little closer at Mike's post...  ;)

But does that bot do the Gyratory Revolt glitch?  FB tried really hard to make a LW version with only marginal success.

And does it really get controlled movement?

Cool bots.  Try a Smashbox-style flipper setup on the flipper; for some reason that seems to increase flipping power.

You know that Omni does the exact same thing as Pinner right?

Just use Omni and don't wire any controls and you've got yourself a Pinner.  Wire a spinner control and you've got yourself a PinnerPlus.

Y'all are talking about just getting together and meeting people, but you're forgetting the REALLY cool thing about gathering IRL...

Massive LAN tournament!  (BBEANS Live anyone?)

Imagine: Rent a room with a whole bunch of computers.  Everyone brings a bot on a USB drive.  Brackets are drawn up, everyone fights their matches lag-free via LAN, and the whole tournament gets done in a day.  And of course, there would need to be cash prizes for incentive to fly/drive all the way to wherever the con was held.

Of course it's not going to happen... but it's still a cool idea.

So the cat is out of the bag...

FB discovered the 140 cm extenders a couple years ago.  But we knew that if we revealed their existence, the question of whether or not they should be legal stock parts would inevitably come up.  And we didn't have an answer to that.  The 140cm round extender is a no-brainer; it's pretty much useless.  But the 140cm square extender... it would change the face of stock bot building.

Well, there's nothing to be done about it now.  Now the Big Question arises:  Stock?  Or Non-Stock?

Sorry guys that I haven't been around for a while.  I've had an infinitesimal amount of free time lately as I've been rushing to build solitary bee nests and set them up in a park 200 miles away from where I live (it's for my Master's project).

Now it's finals week and I'll be busy again.  However, once that's over I'll have more free time and I expect things to start moving right along with BBEANS.  So just hang on for another week.  Your patience shall not go unrewarded

FFIV, V, and VI were all awesome.  Haven't played any others because I don't own a Playstation or Xbox.

And FFV = hardest RPG I've played.  Those bonus bosses were insane.  Even the regular enemies in the secret dungeon could wipe you out if you weren't careful.

Oh and the Tactics games were excellent as well.  Wish I could have played the original Playstation one though; everyone always says it was the best...

(not 100% accurate, but approximate)

lol thats good as mine does fit in any of those :P

I counted it as a side hammer.  I know it's not quite a traditional side hammer, but it's close.

I also counted pokers with rammers, drums with VS's, top spinners with jugglers, etc.  Couldn't be bothered to get really detailed.  It's just a rough approximation, and I probably miscounted a few bots, which is why the total adds up to a little less than 67...

Uhhhhh if you're going to be applying maps to components, you'd be better off starting with something simpler.  The shell spinner panels have way too many vertexes.

Better option:  Make a really flat "decal" component (like the decals on Heavy Metal Noise's discs) and attach that to the shell panel.  You can even probably just reskin HMN's disc decals (just make a lot of transparent space).

MAK AH DRIVE PIGLATT!

Lul
You can't, brush-less motors would fry if they were under that stress.

On the contrary.  Triton used 3 brushless motors for drive (and wheels too).  And it was awesome.

Though I do seem to remember hearing that it went through motors like potato chips, which was why it was eventually retired...

Since I just got Nar AI 2.2, I will see if I can make Ludicrous Speed work as a HW

If I can, then anyone who dares enter a SnS better watch out...

Can i update my bot ? Still didn't do it :P

Yep; I've deliberately avoided doing anything with your bot, knowing that you wanted to update it.

I've got 19 out of 67 bots AI'd now... and fortunately, the most difficult to AI are among those.  So the rest of my AI'ing should be a bit easier from here on.

Some fun stats for ya'll to ponder while you wait for the splash (not 100% accurate, but approximate):

14 rammers
12 HS
10 VS
7 popups
6 jugglers
4 SnS
4 hammers
4 face spinners
3 flippers
2 side hammers

If I knew why the Thermidor wheel did that, I would have fixed it.  Alas, I don't.

I made it before Serge's compiler existed though, so nowadays I could probably make it work.

« on: April 18, 2010, 12:11:44 AM »

I gave Scrap Daddy Kheper.py for his bots.  However, it is hard to use because the angles in the .py are specific to Kheper, and because of the way GetMotorAngle works I don't think they could be easily customizable.  For non-Kheper bots you probably need to make a copy of the .py and change the angles.  Be forewarned.

https://gametechmods.com/uploads/files/Kheper.zip

if you set a large enough range omni should spin straight away ?
It spins once the 3 ticks countdown end.  But prespin helps keep this bot balance.  I wanted the switch to be turn on before the match starts (during the countdown).

Put self.Input("Spin", 0, 1) in def __init__ or def Activate?  Nothing in def Tick happens until after the countdown.

OH WAIT I suppose I ought to mention this here.

In the BBEANS bot showcase, I said that melty brain AI is incapable of avoiding obstacles.  But in fact it is capable of avoiding obstacles, and it actually works in the BBEANS Arena.  So for anyone who entered a SnS, if you would rather have me use melty brain AI, just tell me and I'll do so.  Otherwise I will use FBS_2.py (a non-melty brain SnS that will go after the opponent if it doesn't hit anything for a long time.  And apanx really should have called his AI MeltyBrain.py instead of FBS.py, it gets too confusing with FBS_1, FBS_2, FBS, FBSPlus...)

However do note that I adjusted the tick interval on the melty brain AI in order to reduce lag.  It may be slightly less accurate, but I've tested it and it still works well.

Also, I will be cutting the center blade's power for the tournament matches, since I've seen several bots get flung OOTA by it, which isn't supposed to happen.

Whoa, you sure got heat 3 up fast.  Last I checked, heat 2 wasn't even done yet.

Man, I really thought I could win after my first fight against Condor33 (Epic surgical chassis removal FTW.)  But then the arena happened...

Let's see, if I did win then I would have fought JoeBlo.  Don't think I could have won that; Whiplash Effect has too much top armor, and more importantly a flipper.  Kheper would have been OOTA'd before it could do enough damage.
