To keep a variety of bots though, most people will just put wedges on anyway and hope they're the lucky ones.
It's annoying, if there was a sure fire way to making  the best wedges it would make things a lot more interesting.
Nope.  The moment another niche is discover that improves wedge power, everyone would copy it.  It's the same when everyone ditch skirt hinge for metal hinge, and strait skirt to angle skirt to small wedge + extender.  So it will still come down to luck in the end.

I agree that pre-made disk tends to suck.  The original has 200kg worth of DS light so as to not get de-weaponed so easily.

There's no such thing as "defense against being outwedged".  If there is then you won't see this much wedge bots around.

Your only choice against wedge are
1.  Have the better wedge (or whoever luck out in the first rush)
2.  Wedgeless VS
3.  De-weapon from above (top/bottom potter armor, or some kind of HS made to fight on top)
4.  Sweep (Flail SnS)
5.  Heavy armored with Self Right (only works when combined with 1)

The next question would be, how do you  have one of these features without getting slaughtered by Flail SnS?  2 is eliminated.  3 only works when combine with 4.  Since 1 is typically uncontrollable, that leaves 4 and 5.

Armored Flail SnS beats VS, Most wedges, HS, S, and other Flail SnS
Armored Wide Popups with perfect self right beats Most Armored Flail SnS, shell, HS, slight advantage over other wedge
Armored VS beats Wedge, some shell.

Probably why those are the only 2 types of bots I build nowadays.  Flail SnS (with armor), and armored wide popup with self right.

Alternatively, you can save yourself the headache by trying to beat just one type of bot, and that what the original Fat Rat was intended to do; to kill Flail SnS.

You know, part of Fat Rat's design is the open center, allowing it to beat uni-wedge designs.

Now that pumpkin looks sick.  I personally prefer the metallic look over a colored paint.

Draw a fan art for an anime that came out over a decade ago.  My guess is most of you haven't watch this.

Discussion / Re: What's Up With Wedges?
« on: October 11, 2010, 02:15:55 PM »
Here's another counter intuitive experiment involving ballast.

Condition
1.  A chassis of 10x10, plastic 1.
2.  2 NPC fast in back with granny wheels
3.  2 batteries + control board at center
4.  Bot has been tested to drive strait.

Experiment
Add 300kg worth of ballast to the left side.

Hypothesis
Bot will be left shifted when driving forward, due to the weight.

Result
Bot right shifted when driving forward.

Makes no sense whatsoever if you ask me.

The problem is, as long as the weights are in front of the back wheels (so wedge stays grounded), we don't have any empirical evidence suggesting that moving weight further to the front increases wedge power.  We do however have multiple controlled experiments suggesting that moving the weights around makes virtually no difference.

Like nobody here ever kicked an elevator or vending machine......  He just did the next best thing for someone who can't kick.

That said, this whole "rational" and "higher thought" thing is sooo overrated.  Especially when you consider most people cannot solve non linear problems with it.

I always believe that the way wedge works is much more counter intuitive and random than most people think.  After all, this physics engine is not the most accurate in simulating real life.

Based on these data, and some test I ran in the past, it seems to support that weight distribution has nothing to do with wedge power at all.  The slight advantage/disadvantage probably just comes from luck/small sample size.

Everyone who's heard me, including several music teachers, have told me I sing very well. Apparently getting 85% on expert vocals on guitar hero on my first go is also an achievement, but I don't think so.
Hey I can get 90+ consistently for singing Chop Suey on expert mode!!!!!!  See games don't take points off for Chinese Accent.

Maybe you can sign a song and put it on YouTube or something.

I am trying to decide which bot to send, or if I should make something new.

If you do post an "I'm leaving" thread, I think you should actually be forced to leave for a minimum of one week. Then the infinite amount of "I'm leaving" threads would actually have a point.

This idea is actually quite awesome in it's own way......  NOW EVERYONE CAN SPAM A IM LEAVIN' POST ONCE A WEEK!!!

NPC NPC NPC NPC NPC.  It's so much better than MAG.

But then you don't really need it.  It will be like putting a heavy plow on something when a light one will be enough.

20 components limit ? Not going to be easy...

We can already remove 4 for the drive (more or less would be foolish), 3 MINIMUM for the Power components... that makes no popups, no jugglers, no razor spam, what else ?

Heh. I already have an idea for this but unsure :P

Why would you use 3 power components?  This is one of those incidences where those large batteries aren't so bad.

just use hammers on disk and have 4 motors separate.  Chain motors on VS just don't mix well.

Deviant Art = ATTENTION WHORE NEST

(Doesn't mean there's only AW's on it though)
Lol of course I am attention whoring.  Why would I post anything if I don't want people to see?

Problem is that I get an average of under 1 reply per image.
