So for my government class we have to take a side on whether or not god exists by writing a report.
I took the side against the belief of god, while about the rest of the class took the side for a belief in God.
So, here's what I got so far, I'll so what u guise think of it:
Throughout the middle ages, there was a rapid decline in progress for humanity in Europe. This decline was caused by religion. Religion playing a major role in this decline, and the small other percentage being the black plague. People feared that God would strike them down for even thinking that he didn't exist. Europe was in a state to where a big majority of the population was illiterate, and needed high-priests to read the Bible for them. This type of decline in progress kept on until the Great Enlightenment and later coming Renaissance. I don't want America to decline into that sort of state. I've seen and heard ignorance throughout this school and throughout the streets of (insert my town) talking about how there is only one God and that created the universe that is omnipotent, and all knowing. Fallacies such as these make me sick. It makes me sick knowing that ancient practices such as a belief in a deity are still running rampant throughout our society. You'd think by the year 2012 that people would start to question the dogmas of religion of religion several hundred years down the line. But they don't because back in the middles ages, even stating something that could be suggested into being a disbelief in God would get burned at the stake for heresy. We're not in the dark ages anymore people. If history tells us anything, it's that it repeats itself. I don't want this to happen again.
Most people my age seem to believe in God because there parents said there was an all-knowing, all-wise, all-powerful, omnipotent creator. Because kids are easily conformed to thinking something, it isn't that hard to get them to believe in something that would seem like a complete logical fallacy to any right minded individual today. Religion's sole purpose, isn't just to swindle people into believing in God, it's also to swindle people out of there money. How many of you that sided for the belief in God have given tithes before ? (and then all of them will say yes or some sh**) if you answered yes, congratulations ! your hard-earned cash is now going into the pockets of clergymen, priests, pastors, rabbis, or whomever is high-above on the chain of your church or place of worship. But it's ridiculous though. Why would God need petty mortal money ? God doesn't need money if he's all-knowing and all-powerful, so..where does the money go ? Like I said, it goes to the people that run your religious institution. And its sickening, just plain sickening how good people can robbed by con men preaching the word of God. I myself know this first-hand because I went to my church's head meeting place, and the high-priest didn't have a job ! You know what his "job" was ? spewing completely illogical fallacies right into out faces, with that snarky grin on his face that all businessmen do. Then it hit me; it my thirteen year-old self right in the face like a train-what if this guy's lying ? What if he's just stealing money from us ? So I looked up Atheism on the internet, found books such as the great Charles Darwin's The Origin of the Species, and Richard Dawkins The God Delusion. Then I completely renounced my faith in God, Jesus, and The Holy Spirit.
That is why I am against the belief in God.
