but can you win every fight?
It doesn't matter, if I am to be truly manly, I must enter every fight as if there is no way I can lose. My philosophy that I intend to live forever does not mean that I am afraid of dying, but rather that I live as if I never will.

I took a scout through the thread that was in Forum News when there was a bunch of promotions at the end of 2010, and I found this explanation:

Possibly. The truth is, they're a little bit pointless. As long as you have fun here, that's all that really matters. =D

ding ding sing

and thats why you got one :P

Best thing to do, I reckon, would be to stop worrying about it. Enjoy your time here, try and help out as much as you can, and generally find some way that you can keep the forum ticking over. Those that ask don't get, was another line from that thread. It's like what happened with JoeBlo and Backlash, if you keep asking for it, the chances are you're going to annoy the people who make the decisions, and eventually your chances of actually getting it are going to go right down the toilet.

That's actually what I was going to say next. This is something that I make sure to stress frequently, yet somehow these discussions keep popping up. If you feel the need to ask to be promoted, the likelihood is that you DO NOT deserve it. And it's always the same people bringing it up, and those people will NEVER become advanced users.

Think of it this way, AU's are supposed to be role models for the rest of the forum. If they spent the majority of their time asking and begging and moaning to become AU, then it is likely that other users will attempt to do the same.

It's sort of like on your birthday as a kid, when you're opening presents from your grandparents or something, and before you even get a chance to take it in your mom goes "Now say thank you..." At that point the "Thank You!" loses all meaning.
It's just like joining the Hells Angels: If you have to ask, you probably wouldn't understand the answer.

Well, so far I'm still succeeding in my goal of living forever. Also the struggle to the death thing was from Hegel, and he realized that there was a problem with this in that once one actually kills the other, he loses the recognition and thus the self affirmation.

But right now you don't even know if you actually exist.

Affirmation of one's own existence can only be brought about through recognition by another in a struggle to the death.

Spoken like a manly man ! I salute you.

I intend to live forever. So far, so good. :gawe:
Be prepared to watch everything you care about die

So you only care about temporary things ?
Naryar just acknowledged my masculinity. I really do believe in everything now.

I know I exist.
I know I have thoughts.
I know my thoughts exist.
I know that anything I imagine is a thought.
Therefore, on some level, everything that I have the capacity to imagine exists.

So to answer the initial question: yes.
Oh, and how do you know? I now make the claim that you, in fact, do not exist. Prove me wrong.

Can you define reality? Can you even prove that you exist? Can you prove that robot unicorns don't exist?

Now consider this, several renowned physicists have theorized that there could be an infinite number of parallel universes, and that they may not necessarily follow the same rules as our own, so literally anything could potentially exist in a parallel world.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Soundtrack For The Zombie Apocalypse
« on: March 19, 2012, 08:42:09 PM »
Ehh, why not? I'll play. I probably don't have enough songs on here to make it good though.

Overall Theme: Agalloch - Pantheist

The one that plays during my first zombie kill: 3 Doors Down - Citizen/Soldier

Song that plays while being chased: Disturbed: Land of Confusion

Forced to kill loved one: Agalloch: Agalloch - You Were But a Ghost In My Arms (fitting title)

When I find a new loved one: Andrew W.K. - Party Hard (kinda appropriate?)

When I make my final stand: Agalloch - Fire Above, Ice below (Would have preferred something else)

When I think I've survived: Mayer Hawthorne - No Strings

When I discover a bite Mark: Eurobeat Brony - Fluttershy's Lullaby

I was really hoping I'd roll Libera Me From Hell for my final stand, but meh..

Make ads for RA2 here.
my ad (It took 2 minutes)
(Image removed from quote.)

The problem is, that looks like an excellent Stock bot...

It's ugly and unrealistic.  Advertising is all about about flash judgement, and mine is that I see a mishmash of haphazardly-glued together components and a heckuva lot of grey and black.

They knew plenty about real-life building, they were trying to imitate Battlebots (it's no coincidence that almost all of the Stock AI resemble a famous Battlebots competitor) And let's face it, people are going to have more fun when the Stock AI are easy to beat.
Stock AI is best AI.

The Gainax Ending trope exists for a reason.
