You know, this thread made me realize how much real robot combat is like RA2.
- It's a lot smaller than it used to be. Less events (in real life) and different forums (in RA2) and less players in both.
- Only the really dedicated, serious players still compete.
- Bots have evolved to a point where only a handful of similar-looking designs are effective, barring a few anomalies. (This is especially apparent in the real life AW class, since there are a lot more bots there.)
- A good bot requires an airtight chassis, precision construction, and efficient components.
Now if only RA2 could become more like real life in turn.

First ever popup/VS hybrid?
I like how the irons protect the sides of the discs. Way to be creative there.
The MW VS also looks cool, but I bet it's unstable.

It has more razors, but less reach than Childs Play IV... I wonder which is better.
And how long did it take you to stack the baseplate anchor, the battery, and the CB like that? I wouldn't have even thought of trying to stack the anchor partially outside the chassis.

Nice bot... and it doesn't look like NWB! Few stock jugglers can make the claim of not looking like a NWB ripoff (though there are more of them now than there used to be).

Hmm I handle TM_ROWs somewhat differently... I just imagine the x,y,z axes in my head, and then imagine rotating the whole space so the z direction is pointing the way I want it to go, and then figure out the coordinates of the point 0,0,1 in the new coordinate space. But I guess if you're more mathematically inclined, the multiplication method works too. Nice tutorial with bits of humor sprinkled throughout. But you don't explain how to make a matrix that makes you a sammich. That would be cool.

Eh, I actually started a bot for this, but for some dumb reason it wasn't stable in battle, only in the bot lab. And I bet it would have been awesomely powerful too if it worked...
JoeBlo probably still would have beat it, though. VS's don't tend to do good against SnS.
My prediction: JoeBlo wins. (Easiest tourney predictions ever.)

The sound in Reier/Naryar vs. Pwnator/Ounce is out of phase.
But good matches otherwise... Reier/Naryar vs. Pwnator/Ounce could have turned out a lot boringer, with two SnS's fighting each other. And I was surprised at how Doomsday Device did.

Hey, that's music from Sonic Spinball, isn't it? I used to play that back in the day... brings back memories. I remember I came this close || to beating the final level, but never managed to pull it off. It was a hard game. Oh, and good matches too. I really thought RustWall was going to win when BackScratch lost all but one of its razors.

I sense a trend in the votes... As soon as somebody votes for different bots, there's about 5 people who vote for the exact same thing afterwards. Then another person votes for something slightly different, and it starts all over. Also, if somebody mentions a bot, somebody votes for it immediately afterward. Let's put it to the test. Most Entertaining: Terminal Force Whiplash Effect (It's cool how it can be a clamp or a flipper.) Most Anticipated: HapHazard 2 (It's built like a tank and I really expected it to be near unbeatable in this arena, especially after Heat 1. Honorable mention to SnSnS 3.) Most Innovative: Flying Guillotine (It's the first of its kind and also the first stilt-bot ever in a tournament.) Hated By Fate: Turbulence (I've gotta agree with everyone else on this one. Honorable mentions to The Devil's Vortex and Fallen Hero.) Also, no one's voted for Kheper for Most Entertaining... Now if my theory is correct, the next person will vote Kheper for Most Entertaining, and the next 5 people will copy my votes almost exactly, with maybe just 1 change.

Sorry for the long wait, I just got back from vacation, recorded the next set of matches, and then my internet went down! But it's back up now, so Loser's Bracket Round 2, part 1/2 is up.
Very fast matches this time. There was only one that even went over 4 minutes total. That's good because I can get them done fast, but it means there's not many great surprises either.

Dang, I was thinking of doing something similar lol :P
I too.. I was going to make flash animation movies with all the memey and well known robots as the cast :P
dont think I will anymore, I was going to ask Sage to help me since he is good with videos
Heh, I thought about that too, except it would be filmed in RA2. The episodes would consist of several staged battle scenes spliced together with sound effects, music, and voice/subtitles. I never got serious about it though. The one idea I had was an epic battle sequence with Absolute Chaos and a couple other iconic heavyweights against a horde of 100 SFTW's (I would use the fake SFTW component of course) as well as a giant King SFTW.

Dang non-specific pronouns... I meant I can see Naryar's bot going far against opponents other than Thwartoise. Thwartoise will most definitely not go far against non-HS's.

I'm not. Well maybe a little bit... Thwartoise outweapons this bot by all of 10 kgs, not counting the side maces. With them it's 50 kgs. But Thwartoise should still be able to thwart this bot. However, I can see it going far against most other opponents.

The original ItI made it farther in this than my "improved" rebuild. WHY SO GOOD
And S13 has won 3 tournaments? What was the other one?

why is it called snow?
It was originally made for a bot called Snowblind, which was a poker with adjustable wedges. As I recall it wasn't very effective and FB never totally finished it. Then he made Seism 13 and used the same AI, which is why it's called Snow.

Signups have been open since May and you're nowhere near 32 bots... maybe you should start this when you reach 16? Or 24 at the most. Otherwise we could be waiting for a long time.

Ah right how could I forget about Smashbox 2?
It did have a couple of spike strips for stability/armor, but for all intents and purposes it's a pure flipper.
Well if Urjak wins this, we'll say it's the first time a pure flipper has won in recent history. BBEANS2 happened in 2007.

I don't think there are any other teams with a theme ahahahaha.
Hey, my team has a theme. They're all beetles (hence the name Coleoptera.) Though I suppose it might not be obvious. Flee Beetle is named after the flea beetle, which is a tiny, jumping leaf beetle. Kheper is the Egyptian word for Scarab. I named Kheper after the scarab because it looks vaguely scaraby and the saw arm is kind of like the sun's movement across the sky, which the Egyptians represented by scarab beetles. And Gigawhirl is a kind of anagram of Whirligig, as in the whirligig beetle. Good name for a spinner. Best built team: Team OunceBest team theme: All Hallow's EveDarwin Award: S=FTWEye of the Tiger: FreezepopsExtinction due to misadventure: Team PwnTFTW: Freezepops (lol how can Freezepops win both Eye of the Tiger AND TFTW?) Best strategic team: Team Ounce (smart thinking entering FlipJack 4 as the LW, as it's effective against all weight classes) Your favorite bot: Emobot (dunno why, I just like the design) Your favorite heat: Winner's Bracket Finals (Flee Beetle actually jumped back in the arena! It got punted back out right away again, but still. It was cool.) Should there be a future sequel to SOTF? Why sure.

You're still in the grand final, but apparently the winner of the grand final isn't the real winner, if I'm reading the format right. The real winner is whoever has the most points at the end out of the top 4 bots right now.
My prediction for grand final winner = Urjak. MikeNCR or Ounce could conceivably beat him, but I think Urjak has the edge.
Would that be the first time in tournament history that a flipper is the champion? I think it would be... cool.
