Discussion / The Ranking System
« on: May 28, 2009, 11:05:24 AM »
Indeed, this is a good idea. This is also a good way to change our members Respect Rating, as the members are nominated, their respect can go up by one, as more people are recognizing them (making the limit to +5 points total or if the member won five times). Fear is something else and would not pertain well with this system however. But i do like it and feel that it would motivate more people to contribute for gametechmods.

Added:
+3 on your Respect Rating...

+3 on Fear

ur ratings are kind of low.

Indeed, it does use flipper AI. Several test runs with its coding was pretty good as well, as with all your bots. I'm beginning to find out that the "radius" of each bot can also affect how it behaves. Bots with fairly large radius' for example would be more prone to drive off the stage and so fourth.

Bots will be done this weekend. Videos will start next week.

184
Nope, but no worries; I already AI'd your bot a long time ago. that is unless you would want to. It works pretty well IMO.

185
Back onto the topic... I am in the process of AIing the robots and they are all almost done.

Videos of the first few matches will start afterwards.

186
Hmm... Wow thanks for pointing that out. It is the Tabletop bracket not the KOTH. That's proof from staying up till 3:00 am. It will be changed ASAP. Very good eyes R0B0.

Edit: Fixed.

My Predictions on the out come of each bot (TT WISE):
  • Widowmaker (Somebody): It is pretty well rounded in terms of having a decent ground clearance to small chassis ratio. I expect it to do well in its matchups. However, I'm not sure as to how fast it is.
  • Punisher (somestrangeguy): A pistion powered pusher is something that might turn the tables on those who arent wedged decently. It looks like a good push to the flimsy wheels however can knock it over. The bottom protection was a well thought choice.
  • HR-E (R1885): Nice and Pushy. Good friction on the wheels and decent wedges. It's probably going to do well.
  • Equal & Opposite (Condor33): On of my favorites. Interesting wedge design. Either way, this powerful flipper is one to watch out for.
  • BLEVE (Clickbeetle): Clickbeetle is known for his uniquely effective robots. Invertible, axle wedges and the works. Another one to watch out for. Another one of my favorites.
  • Li-ewl Terrier (Gigafrost): Im going to see how effective this kind of flipper design is going to be, it is built with the side of the extender on the burst attatchment to relieve stress on the motor. At the price of not so good wedges. Note: I noticed that it also deals a decent amount of damage, so to play it safe the aluminum flipper was replaced with a polecarbonate one and the shield on the extender was removed. NO major changes was made.
  • Arcarsenal (R0B0S4RK): R0B0S4RK comes in with a popup-designed flipper. The bot looks very well built. Chances are, it will go far.
  • Skirmish 3 (Naryar): Another well built bot. Looks simular to Arcarsenal in terms of function, but like it, the backwards-style popup flipper means that it may take a while to self right.
  • The Devils Lime 2 (Urjak): Handsome looking robot. Wedges look pretty good. Another potential popup flipper.
  • Chizzle (Whamettnuht): Creative realistic look, the 'green' angle motors will give it a decent amount of power, but may fall prey to those with better motors.
  • Wegi (System32): Decent enough... It uses very good angle motors actually, but ftheres a lot of room on that chassis for a good wedge to sink under.
  • Dune Buggy (ScrapDaddy): This thing is bound to cook up some interesting matches. The only ground clearance it has is a little side panel and its wheels are HUGE! Don't mistake my opinion as hatin' though, it looks like it has a lot of pushing power behind it and is one of the only 4WDriving bots in this division.
  • Zapper 8.5 (Reier): Nice, compact, little flipper, need I say more?
  • Razor III (philetbabe): Arms wrapped around the plow is a good idea for a pusher. The extra skirts will also go in its favor.
  • Spawn of Francium (H@zm47): SoF looks all sorts of pushy in this form. Hopefully it won't get inverted however.
  • Titanium Chicken (Metalikvyper): Just another one of your average pushers. It should fair quite decently.
  • Table-Top(Sage): Sage enters a sit and spinner, the additional 2WD will add more torque to its spins, but may not be good enough for fending off speedy flippers.

Brackets for the KOTH Division are UP! Check it out on the elbite website.

Note: The Red Stars indicate a ByeBot placement. Since I have an odd number of entrants, they were placed accordingly, in the first and third "wave". The yellow icon to the right of the bracket is the division ticket. Let's see who can grab it!

189
Yes Sir. If one person wins all three (which I would highly doubt), they would indeed win the tournament and there would not be a need for a final match.

This is a more straight forward thread than the previous one.... Instead of the discussion board, this thread will host the actual brackets and Match Videos of your precious robots! And the bots are being AI'd, polished, and prepped up as we speak.

THE RUN DOWN
(Will be displayed in order by which they appear):

1st Session
  • ESIS will discontinue... It has no purpose on my website, takes up my website space and my time, and it just annoying to look at. Enough of the flashy stuff for now.
  • [/COLOR]
  • Brackets for ELBITE's Tabletop Division will be displayed on May 20th, 2009; predictions are welcome. I will give my predictions of the outcome each match as well.

  • Videos will then start rolling in after (in respect to the time intervals by which they can be created AND after all your bots are AI'd).
  • IMPORTANT: After all the match videos have been displayed, (which may take WEEKS or even a whole month to complete), the winner of the division will receive a special item called a "division ticket" which will grant them passage in the final death match (against the other winners of the other seperate divisions). This ticket is just a little icon that will be displayed under the winners image showing that they will enter the final fight. More about the ticket will be announced.
  • The division ends with a few words from Rawflesaurus himself via video (the host of the tournament) and we move on to the next divison.
2nd and third sessions will begin like the first. and begin after the division is complete. However, the time by which the brackets will be shown will vary.

Note: This is the order that the divisions will be started.

-Tabletop Division
-King Of The Hill Division
-DeathMatch Division
-FINAL BATTLE  (Winners of all three divisions will face off!)

Coronation

Once the winner of the final battle has been announced, one more thread will be created to give out the prizes and in honor of all the warriors who won each division but didnt win the grand prize and will all recieve a 2nd place prize (TBA).

The Grand prize winner will recieve the grand prize as well as the badge; They are BOTH very important to the winner in any nostalgia matches (see gametechs wiki for more info). It's a very big deal and a high status symbol to wear such a badge...

Third place winners (The runners up of each division after losing to the winners) will recieve component reskins based of of RA2GE's BETA Release. A collectible item all in all.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please post it into this thread or the discussion thread. I will also update the rules if I missed anything... May the Best Bot win and Good Luck!

I do feel that the term "Pure" is kind of inaccurate. Using the term "Typical HS" or "Standard HS" maybe.

However, I think the term 36HS is a good way to describe it. Another way can be calling them HS36w where the "w" can mean weapon or HS36Irons/Razors/Maces/etc. for those term junkies.

Thanks again Click

Really? Hmm... I opened up your bot file clean as it came to me. Some sort of glitch perhaps. I've done nothing to it by the way.
I'm thinking about whether I should try to change it's position or leave it as is.
Either way this must be studied in time, I think something new has been discovered with the positioning of the weapon, or maybe something basic.

Arena Videos will be up next week as well as Brackets.

Pandemic is indeed facing the right way if im not mistaken... It is an interesting design but is also very stable when it reaches top speed. I don't know what exposing the motor will do but I do know that naturally, the AI usually goes into the center of the KOTH arena "rear end first". I think this is an advantageous effort to prevent exposure if used this way. But I'm not certain.

@ man manu- please read the previous posts regarding as to why your entry was not valid... In all, the bots crashed my game and I was not sent a valid entry before the closing of registration. My apologies.

improvment : for someone who really don't know much about RA2 i think the prizes should be more commented : where should one put the file cement_background.bmp (ie under UI / commons) : this is not always well explained.
Indeed... I did not have neither the 'technology' or the know-how to do such a thing at the time. With the LU project things will be different- way different.

I did think that event placement would be a little bit too much for novices, hence is why I will upgrade the AUS to implement .EXE applications with the release of LU. The user will simply click on the unlocked part, and it will unzip itself into the proper directory. I have yet to find out if making a "congratulations! you unlocked such and such..." script would be possible in-game. I might need help from Mad on that one.
