To celebrate season 1 of Battlebots airing in the United Kingdom, Spike TV in their infinite wisdom have put up some statistic cards for each of the robots in the first episode of the first season of Battlebots. This includes win loss statistics. I have no idea why they have done this. You could argue it may spoil the series for anyone who has not seen it. The confusing thing is they have added the win loss ratio from season 2 of Battlebots to them, before the finale has ended. They also list Warhead as having won two awards and Nightmare as winning one. It also has Biteforce listed as having one award, although I presume that was due to them winning season one. They are not counting Comedy Central seasons in these statistics. For reference, the awards on offer this season are: - Most Destructive Robot
- Best Driver
- Best Designer
- Founder's Award
If I had to guess, I would assume Warhead has won best design and Nightmare has won the Founder's Award.
Did Season 1 have those awards as well? I could imagine Warhead getting most destructive because of that one fight with Complete Control, however Tombstone or Minotaur seems more likely.
So the Rumble on tonight is gonna be Bite Force vs Wrecks vs Witch Doctor.
I wonder if the other ones (Disk O' Inferno/Splatter/Rotator, Deathroll/Bucktooth Burl/Skorpios, Overhaul/Sawblaze, Stinger/Ghost Raptor, etc...) will be put up as highlights or raw footage on YouTube?
Wait, is it confirmed that this is in the episode? Also seeing how all fights have been shown so far in Season 2, I think we'll get YT uploads here.

At least there's Stock MW. I don't mean to diss the makers of Ironforge and Retooled. I guess I'm just too closed-minded.
Imagine Stock building without the glitches and balanced parts, then you get IF(minus the ballast part), it might take you a bit of time to get into it, but it's a nice mod, as for Retooled, build something that works and enter to see what happens, noone really knows much about it, so it's completely new. Imagine it just like the first Series of Robot Wars(except that we know that armor's needed as well as srimechs)

is it stable enough to start building something for GCS?
As far as I know, it is, all the components(minus a few unfinished ones) are already balanced from what I've heard, so get building :P

Nebulak? It's the german name of ghastly :P
Sounds good to me, usually I'd like for bots to keep their original name but I understand the name change here, also hoping to see it in RW Season 2.

No idea why the old thread went into virtual store but you most likely have the game installed in C:\program files\ right? If that's the case, you're most likely missing permissions. You could run it as admin but I don't recommend that, either fix the permissions or move the game to a different folder(your documents for example)

Thanks guys, will try to build them into the py file. I did read the tactics.py some time ago and remember reading about the unstuck handler, however when searching it yesterday I searched for time or countdown and couldn't find it because of that, think apanx also once mentioned how you can add something that then overwrites the default behaviour.
The driving backwards while always pointing towards the enemy tactic is nice, will try to work with it and try to learn this AI stuff so I won't have to ask "how to do X".

Not a spectacular episode overall as it showed the head to head format at its worst now. I'm glad Thor was chosen as a wildcard as I thought they did deserve it, but they just kept getting beaten to the point where it's now a byebot for the head to head battles. It really showed how anticlimactic each battle was after their bout against Carbide.
Also, the final battle, was probably one of, if not, the best finals in Robot Wars. Though that being said, there really wasn't much competition overall on that. I also liked both Carbide and Apollo from their heats, so that's a good start. While the battle had both bots their weapons, it was still finding ways to be interesting overall. Great to see Apollo win overall. Congrats to them. Also, I pretty much agree with Thyrus to bring the old battle format back.
Not sure if I'd call it the best final out of all of RW, but it was definitely good. As for the format, like mentioned it does have the good point of bots not going out if they mess up once, thought about Battlebots Wildcards some weeks ago, but in the end you will reach a stage where one mistake puts you out and this format can really be bad against Spinners. If you give the roboteers more time to prepare and get this link thing sorted out, bots shouldn't be knocked out like that anymore. Thor was the best Wildcard to pick, won all battles minus the final one, sadly didn't have a good spinner wedge(which I think is needed in today's time, don't think you could have that strong armor all around your bot, at least not without losing weapon/drive power)

Hey, nice to see you on the Forums. Some people might be used to higher standards in terms of replicas here, but they have to keep in mind that this was done on Stock on purpose, as a challenge, and while I do think that you can improve some bots, you're still doing a great job and I can see this get better and better. I've seen some of the forum people in the comments section, so you'll definitely have some fans here already. Nice that someone's playing stock in the way it was originally intended, and as long as you're enjoying it, there's nothing wrong with it at all. Hey there. I've seen some of your videos. may I ask why you didn't build 2 more bots and went with the 2015 format?
Fair question The cutoff was after episode #20, and in those 20 episodes we had 22 heavyweights. It would've been 24 if I remembered that I put Panic Attack and Mortis and Robot Wars Reborn
Was going to mention that, also it's usually best to edit your posts instead of double/triple posting.

Is there anyone in that 12 that definitely wouldn't enter if it was Retooled (other than Mech)?
I have a little food for thought based on using Retooled..
If the tournament is to be run soon (which seems to be the case given the pacing of this discussion) there is the potential for exploitable aspects yet to be uncovered to the community (in extreme cases a Narmour like scenario for instance) I mean absolutely no disrespect to the great work made by Mr AS, the metagame is just young and in its early days.
If the tournament is set as a more distant project there is the potential for optimal designs to still shine through but all the bugs worked out.
Using retooled as an unknown is great in one situation but also a gamble in another.. it would still need to be tried and tested (perhaps in tournament situations) to truly work out all the nerfs and buffs thoroughly.
In my opinion the risk of optimal designs is a better trade off than the risk of exploits, as the more final release should be balanced enough to generate a "rock paper scissors" scenario but its a question if that fits the timeline for this tournament..
Exactly a problem, think there could be a rule that a bot could be denied if something like that happens. Also it's probably better to make sure that a lot of bot types work instead of "let's try something new as long as we don't have a meta" because it's a short time solution. grab your balls
sure ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Typical Jonzu quote here. Personally I think it would be better to have a mod for the entire tournament so people can try to be creative in multiple weightclasses, but this works too. IF>DSL, DSL is so unbalanced in it's current state and just seems to be a fan favorite, while IF never seemed to get the love it deserved.

you can't really use that as an argument, seeing as Red Devil never really got to use its weapon at all. What i mean is, even if you dominate the fight, if your weapon breaks and your opponent is able to use theirs, then you're just ****ed and there's nothing you can do about it.
That's why if your weapon breaks, you do like Bombshell did and prevent the other bot from using their weapon. It's a tough rule, but it's fair.
Difficult to do most of the time, also pushing around will still remove points. I'm honestly worried about the top armor for Yeti though.
Same, it's an all offense bot, but if it can knock over Chomp once then it will do that for the complete match.

If you don't get enough to fill out a bigger bracket, have the last 4 bots you received compete in a rumble for the last spot(s)
Why the last 4 if he has 14? Original tournament size was 16, so I'd say adding two byebots would be the better choice. 5 days left, tfw you get 14 bots in 2 days and haven't gotten a thing since
that's because everyone who wanted to enter built their bot as soon as the poll went up
Yeah, was worried about not having enough time to get my entry in, so it was done quickly, would suck if it was suddenly in a wildcard rumble now.

Why not fix the AI crash then by redownloading DSL2 and importing your bots or finding the error?

my problem with this judging system is, if your weapon breaks you may as well stop trying. at least that's basically what it looks like based on what we've seen.
Wait, you're a forum user?! I was going to mention the match as the one exception, since Red Devil couldn't get to use it's weapon so both didn't have aggression while Bombshell pushed it around and got control points. I don't know if running away from a bot removes points, but I think that's the best to do in such a situation unless you manage to break the opponent's weapon as well, as the only thing you can do is push and outdrive them, which will give you the control point but remove the aggression ones. Apparently Nightmare got screwed over by the new Battlebots rules(probably applies for the 2015 ones as well) as well, apparently bots wouldn't be counted out if they broke in the last 30 seconds, it would just be a judges decision anyways, which Nightmare probably would've won. However I'm happy with how it turned out, rather have a fully working Beta fight Tombstone instead of a half broken Nightmare getting smashed apart.

More testing shows it's definitely that. Problem is, as far as I understand, that this is inherited from tactics.py or other files, and I have no idea how to overwrite that behaviour so that the robot keeps on targeting the AI, doesn't help that I only have like two days for the tournament, but please do the more important things in life first, doesn't matter if I lose this.

Carbide becomes the new Hypnodisc! feared finalist only to fall short
Heh, was going to mention that. First having done so much destruction, with TR2 activating the pit I thought we might get Hypnodisc vs Bigger Brother again. For the Finale I wasn't sure if Apollo's switch would be knocked out again, but it was definitely nice, no Chaos 2 vs Hypnodisc or Pussycat vs Hypnodisc short match, but a good final battle.

Holy , WenXiangLee actually made a bot that's decent!
Congratulations!
I mean.. he did win crapcan derby
But SNS=instawin. It wasn't built bad(and the above mentioned bot isn't bad, but could have some improvements like armor plates instead of flipper segments for the sides but is otherwise decent) and I guess being a MW really helped it, so the plows would be able to catch some damage instead of breaking off instantly.
