A) They're not really used in IRL building, outside of dustpan designs B) They outwedge EVERYTHING C) Very easy to abuse in the design department D) THEY OUTWEDGE EVERYTHING E) They look pretty fugly F) I abused them on an old bot years ago and took home second place in a big tourney despite the robot being ass, which started this whole "skirts are illegal" debacle G) There's plenty of examples of crap or mediocre bots getting good places in tournaments because of their wedginess, almost unfairly so. Read also, "wedge war". H) Turns RA2 into a pushing contest rather than anything to do with design I) Come on man, be original.

*blows the dust off this Showcase* DSL-S, anyone? Serpenterror. 798.6, Tite 3, internals below- That plastic wedgelet trapper thing on the top also doubles as a srimech, and the wedginess is very good. Positives, can do more damage than a popup in a shorter amount of time, negatives, need to waste KG's on a srimech. Still, it's been a long-ass time since I've even seen a DSL-S popup, so... Enhh. Taranchula. Rebuild of my older "Texas Cloverleaf" design. 799.1, Plastic 5, internals are 2 NPC Fast's and 3 battlepacks. Used to have crappy wedges, but turning the entire chassis 180 to make the wheels at the back and the main amount of weight where the hinges are seems to have turned it from coal into a diamond in the wedginess department. The axe does 2000-6000 damage a swing, and is very durable. Only downside is that self-righting takes a long time, and although it turns very quickly, getting around to the back of the plows and ripping them off that way is a problem. Put some Heavy Metal Teeth there to try and compensate, but I still think it could be an issue if it came up against a good driver or lucky AI.

More extenderbot practice.
I love all of these - if I had to limit myself to just one, I'd take the Judge clone. Not often you see one of those.

These are ****ing nuts. It'll take someone a herculean effort to top this anytime this month.

I really like the look of Ice Cream Machine. LBTT and EIMC are good too, but they're a bit too generic to really stand out.

Looking quite nice, man! Looks like it's all solid and everything belongs where it is, if that makes sense... ^^;

Giving me serious 2002, Series 6, maybe Season 4.0 or 5.0 vibes over here. Simple, effective, awesome.

does anyone other than fotepx actually care about this
I'm trying to work on changes, trying to make things better. If you have any better ideas, post 'em. Besides, for the fourth or so time, this is just a trial run - if the results come back after this month that nobody cares, I'll just let regular BOTM run it's course. I don't particularly care myself, it's just a test.

For now, I'm splitting it based on game (Stock/DSL-S/DSL-IRL/Ironforge/Other)
Multiple hosts myb?
Enhh, it'd have to people I know I can trust. Maybe hosting past BOTM's, or having a good standing in the community would be the deciding factor. Gee, wouldn't re-implementing the ratings system so everyone can vote per hour make that "good standing in the community" part a lot easier? Anyway, 5 days into this, and I think the amount of entrants into each category speaks volumes about where the RA2 meta is at right now. Ironforge at 0, DSL-S at 6, DSL-IRL at 8, and Stock at 11. DSL-IRL has the largest variety of builders, however, despite not being as voluminous. I'll chalk that up to geese pretty much carrying RA2 Stock on his back, with 8 bots showcased.

Phillipa's a stinky butt face Can launch robots over the Battlebox wall, the outer RW wall, the DSL Tournament wall... Okay, any wall, with the greatest of ease. One flip and it's over, usually. Your move Phillipa you lame-o

Secondly, realistically putting all said bots into one thread and getting people to choose just one is certainly a difficult task to achieve, I imagine it could be rather intimidating to a voter to choose outta X amount of robots.
Yeah, we're only 3 days into this, and I already have 19 splashes saved. For now, I'm splitting it based on game (Stock/DSL-S/DSL-IRL/Ironforge/Other), but I might make more separations depending on how many I compile by the end of it.

Also, if we go to a showcase-based botm, would it be a good idea to make splashes for all my bots?
I'm just taking all the images people upload and saving them into a folder, then re-upping them on the thread when the time comes. You -can- splash if you want, but there's no rule saying ya have to. Bot looks sick, BTW. Really nice and compact.

I'm assuming best bot per person?
All bots showcased will be auto-entered with no per-person limit, unless the person who owns the showcase specifies otherwise.

I'm insulted that you think my BOTM is stupid.
Hey, this is just a trial run thing. If this crashes and burns, we'll go back to your system, okay? No harm done. While I do think the new idea was good when proposed by whoever did originally, I guess **** me for trying to take BOTM seriously these last 7-8 months. I thought it was worth my time to try and make something unique for each suggestion, even if I can't say every suggestion was followed to the letter.
Same as above, really. Starting today, any newly showcased bots' splashes are gonna be saved and logged.
u got me fam?
I got everyone, except those who say they don't wanna get got.

I don't know if this has been implemented (and if it has, mods, message me and I'll delete this), but in the GTM Feedback thread, I suggested this- BOTM's stupid, and everybody views it as a joke-thing. Perhaps, instead of being it's own separate, gated off thing, it should *sharp inhale* automatically have everyone's bots from their showcases entered in the shuffle, and then everyone votes from there? I know, I know, that'll be a massive admin headache, especially when people don't give their bots names, but other than removing it outright, that's the only way I see to make BOTM worth anything any more.
And that's exactly what I'm gonna do. Starting today, any newly showcased bots' splashes are gonna be saved and logged. Then, 3 days before the end of the month, I'm gonna compile them all into one thread, and y'all get to vote on which one you like most. This is just a trial run, so I expect there to be some hiccups. If you want to give any feedback on this, or do NOT want your bots included, lemme know below. Keep in mind this isn't a mod thing, this is all being done by hand, so don't expect it to be optimised or even clean, just a trial run to see if/how the idea works. GLHF
