On a more serious note, I think it would be awesome if Masahiro Sakurai was a secret character in SSB.  (For those who don't know, he's the creator of the SSB series.)  He'd just be a guy in a suit, and he'd look all photorealistic and out of place.  His moves would consist of various "hax" with the game's source code.

Maybe Shigeru Miyamoto could be in it as well, as a sort of tribute.

Cold Front looks fantastic. Would there be any way of allowing it to self-right?

Yes, if I removed the wedges.  But obviously I don't want to do that.

Or if I totally rebuilt it so it was shorter, it might be able to self right with the Snappers.  But it would probably have worse wedges as well.

I'm basically open to suggestions.

The extenders aren't quite right.  HS has really loooooong wedges.  And it would be cooler as a VS but what can you do with an AW.

Mini Bumble Bee?  Might actually be possible...

Do you have the BBEANS AI pack?

If so, find bbhaz.py in the Arenas folder.  Open it up, and delete the line where it says

in_list = False

This will un-hide the arena.

Fight SFTW 20 times in BBEANS AI.

Actually it can happen at any time... it's just that the odds increase every time you beat SFTW, and once you get to 20 it's 100%.

And I am amused to discover someone finally finding this by accident, rather than peeking at the .py's    It produced exactly the reaction I was hoping for.

I like the way that bot looks, but I fear those side panels won't be enough protection for the Magmotor.  See if you can use 40cm skirts instead.  Also, it would be much more effective with high-DP weapons, like the 12kg DSL teeth, so you can rip off wheels faster.  You're certainly not going to be out-weaponing anything so you don't need to worry about HP.  And I'm guessing the big polycarb skirt is for self righting.  Cool setup.

Thinking of making it LW and entering it in CCIV

Hate to be the bringer of bad news, but the LW's chassis isn't a cube.

And I find it amusing how people are building bots for CC4 and no one even knows what the arena and format is going to be yet.  I'll laugh at all the people with flippers if it's in a non-OOTA arena.

Also, you should replace the iron spike on Speedy Anger with another razor (so they are all the same length) and upgrade the armor.  And why are the razors set up asymmetrically?

Got a sudden idea for a bot and just had to build it.  Yay for hybrid popups!

It's a rammer/popup hybrid (has anyone done that yet?).  2 supervolts, DSA, 5 razors on the DDT, and a whole lotta axes.  And also the second best wedges of any bot I've built... which isn't saying much, since I'm usually terrible at making good wedges, but it's good enough to get under NWB, which makes me happy    (And in case you're wondering, my bot with the best wedges is Verbal Abuse to Bodily Harm.)

There are 2 problems with it:  One, it can't self right.  And two, the top is very vulnerable to HS's that are flopping out of control.  It dominates HS's as long as they stay stable... but when they start flopping it's a problem.

Also, there's this thing that's been sitting in my bot lab for months.

Yes, it looks awesome... but it's not called Sacrificial Lamb for no reason.  It can barely beat any BW's in Starcore.  I knew it wasn't going to be good when I built it though.  It's more just because I can.

Inception 2 looks good, though I wonder where all the weight is.  Most VS's like that can have 4WD no problem.  And getting under NWB is awesome.

Fatal Emergency doesn't really have a good setup... at all.  It's almost always better to just attach the drive motors to the baseplate on popups.  If you use Snapper II's for the drive you want to go for a super flat, super compact design.  Also you should use either two wedges, or one really long one.  One short wedge is all but useless in the HW class because most bots have two and will get around it.

Cute little FS there.  For some reason it reminds me of a rabbit.  (I think it's the top stopper razors that look like ears).  Could be some kind of vicious killer rabbit.

Round 3 is up!  Wow, there were some great fights.  Tons of really close ones, and huge upsets left and right.  In fact, the real upsets this round are when things go as expected.

Also, we're at the point now where every round has 8 or fewer matches, so I won't be uploading any more rounds in parts.  That means the rankings will be updated with every new set of videos.

Are we just reminiscing here, or is there actually legitimate rumors of a SSB4?

And SFTW needs to be in it.  :gawe:

Some Guy's showcase?

I tought it was my evil twin making a showcase.

No, that would be someevilguy. :P

Some Guy would be... what?  The father of you two?

The popup looks good, but take a look at Noodle and NFX's showcases; they both recently made similar bots that are pretty much as good as that design can get.  First thing I would try to do is beef up the drive.

Nice rammer/poker/HS hybrid... never thought I'd see that combo be effective.

I'd like to see that popup/HS hybrid.... has anyone ever made an effective popup hybrid before?

Edit: Oh right Pwn's popup/VS that he just posted.

Unfortunately, although servos don't REQUIRE batteries, they still drain battery if you have them.

But I haven't tested to see how servo battery drain does work... it might not be a flat 100 like it is for spin motors.  How does the servo VS perform?  Better than an angle motor?

Discussion / Re: Why do my VSes
« on: July 27, 2010, 10:33:17 PM »
Front stabilizers don't always help... I have a VS with the spinner way in the back embedded in the wedge, like Dark Pounder and my other bot Darkling 2 (in fact this bot I'm talking about is Darkling 3).  It's completely stable in the bot lab.  But put it in an arena, and it does frontflips uncontrollably against most bots (not all though).  I think there is some weird glitch that affects VS's, that gives them super torque or something.  Heaven's Sawmill did the same thing, although instead of doing frontflips its turning was affected.

Got my bot done.  I'm going a bit more low-key this time... not by choice, but because I have so much else going on.

Round 2 loser's bracket, part 2/2 is up!  And also the rankings are updated.

There were some really good fights this time, and quite a few small-scale surprises (and by small scale, I mean not necessarily what happens in the match, but HOW it happens.  For example, there's this one weird flipper KO...)

Also, Firebeetle finished a new song which I can use in my videos, so keep an ear out for that.  (It's in Flux vs. N-Trench.)
