DSL TC Showcases / Re: RPJK's Probable 6 Month Stand DSL showcase.

Look at Craaigs showcase if you want the archetypical design for that sort of VS.

Or some of mine but they are built a bit differently than his.

As for your VS you might want to try a setup like this.

Unless you run RA2 from a desktop based folder windows 7 gets indegestion when it tries to run RA2. Stick it on the desktop and try. I personally keep my RA2 in the "downloads" folder in widows 7.

Real Robotics Discussion / Re: Deciding on a weight class...

I never said bigger robots were better I only said that heavier weightclasses are easier to work on. It was incredibly frustrating to work on my ant, simply because it was so small versus my 30lbers where everything is bigger.

Ra2 has ruined your comprehension for the way real robot combat works.

No it hasn't.

@Ribbs: It's really not worth it to enter a RC car. You get a turning radius the size of the arena with no pushing power and cheap plastic that isn't going to stand up to anything. Save your money from registration fees and what ever you were going to buy for that RC car.

The only east cost competition worth going to is NERC's motorama or Franklin Cup in Harrisburg and Philly respectively.

http://nerc.us/

As for weight classes for someone starting out you will have the most bang for the buck from the sportsman class. The class doesn't allow high KE weapons so it's less likely thar your bot will be destroyed and a sportsman can cost as little as $600.

Statistically the best designs for all weightclasses above 12lbs are fast and powerful pushybots (wedges, lifters, sewers snake, ect) and flippers. I also think that its easier to work with a larger bot because of size and you can have larger tolerances and it will still look fine. And finally a big 30lber is way more impressive to show off than a little 1lber.

I buy most of my parts from:

http://www.hobbyking.com/ for cheap radio gear

http://www.robotmarketplace.com/ Batteries, unless I find them cheaper, Esc's, wheels,

http://www.dimensionengineering.com/ Esc's and LEDs

http://onlinemetals.com/ awesome small quantity metal dealer, super cheap and quick service. They also can cut to your dimensions for no extra cost.

http://www.mcmaster.com/ the fastest way to order any industrial parts online. No lie they have your order ready to go and shipped out before you even pay for it.

You first have to go to the game directory which is in C: drive -->Sys32-->program files-->Infogames-->Robot Arena 2

You then should get a directory that looks like https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/959371.png[/img]]this

Then you click on "components"

Search out the TXT file you want to change and open it (I'll use the beater bar as an example)

When you open it you should get something like this
Code: [Select]
name = Beater Bar
preview = beater_preview.bmp
dir = beaterbars
model = beater2.gmf
type = weapons
base = Weapon
description = A small steel bar to add a little bite to your drum weapon.  They can also be stacked end-to-end to make an eggbeater weapon.  This medium one has 1500 HP, 170 fracture, and 250 DP.
damagesounds = sounds\low_clank.wav
attachsound = sounds\cmp_generic.wav
concussion = 2.5
piercing = 0
hitpoints = 1500
fracture = 170
standard = 1
passthru = ramplate
Sort = 10

to change the stats you want to change the values labeled concussion, piercing, hitpoints, and fracture

concussion and piercing  are how much damage a component will cause.
hitpoints is how many hits something can take before it breaks off
fracture is how many hitpoints it takes to knock off a part once its hitpoints have been depleted

Once you are done changing the stats in the TXT file, make sure you save the component under a new name in the "components" folder

My Cell Phone service charges 5 cents per text sent or received. One of my friends just got a phone. This is the result.
