but much more importantly popups are faster and have strong armour for cheap. This kills the VS.
yeah because popup didn't have the basically indestructible heavy plows and the 10kg 1000 hp firestorm flipper in dsl 2.1

I'm kinda meh about MW because of The Cauldron, but stock = count me in.
EXCUSE ME MW IS THE BEST DAMN WEIGHTCLASS THAT HAS EVER EXIST I would definitely be up for Stock and possibly Ironforge if I can learn it in time :P - though I don't really get the rules (isn't it just three separate tournaments?)

SnS and popups are broken, put wedges on everything and scrap your bot if they're bad, spam sledges instead of smaller weapons to try and deweapon wedgespammers cause you cant out-DPS them

idk haven't played much 2.2 and was bad at 2.1, but I remember non-wedges bots at least having a chance.
i'm talking about 2.1, and those bots you are talking about are SnS, flail ram and heavily weapons VS, flail rams are the only ones really nerfed in ironforge.

some are like the setup you have but many actual "upward pokers" are quasi-popups that have a high mounted burst motor with a piston beneath it to get extra impact force. first bot isn't an upward poker imo, its a burst motor popup. 2nd bot is a great example though.
