Modifications / Battlefield Arena.
« on: May 04, 2008, 02:51:01 AM »
Here are some vids of the Battlefield Arena. It is a non-traditonal arena.  The first 2 vids are the regular game battle, with Blockades for protection, DMZ with both river and mines, and Air Support: (pardon the sound quality--- should have turned it down a little more for recording).  If you get past the blockades and Landmines, and then are able to cross the river(cause of its depth and it has an actual current), your opponent can call for "Air Support" and some high altitude Bombers will try to get you to retreat....   But don't worry cause if your opponent comes over you also have some Air Support waiting for him.
I am fighting a couple different Combat AI.  The bot "M-Gun-1" is an AI that has an ACAMS prototype weapon that's very nasty....  The skins are about all that's left to do.

--------------
There's an added feature called 'Intervention'.  If your losing badly and your bot has 10% or less life, then there's a slim (1 in 10) chance you may get BIG help.

The 1st Intervention is from the USS Enterprise (Thanks to ACAMS).  The Enterprise will come down, pull and then Beam-Up your opponent part way, and then totally disintegrate him.... Then take off like the end of a regular episode.
ST_1

The 2nd Intervention is a Cruise Missle equipped with a 'CruiseCam', that will totally destroy your opponent...... into blazes,..... and pieces.*hehe*

Note: FRAPS slightly altered these vids a little bit (cause of a little lag while recording) so I had to slightly tweak the vids back).

Here, Dark Rat, are a few of the pics you requested of arena python code, rescripted to AI and User bot fires that are correlated to bot damage.  Sorry, it has taken me a couple days, but the other 'official' site is so unpredictable and now messed up...  My thread of this kind of stuff was deleted.  Have to start again from scratch.  I have a 'Practice arena' tweak that has this coded in, if you'd like to see it or I'll just give you the coding...  This can be scripted into any arena.
Here are a few pics I found searching through my GTM ftp account:

Here's a video of the bot fire coding on the Combat AI Pack:

General Support / compressor arena crash

70C, I ran across the Compressor, and then found the Ocean Platform arena glitches.  I guess I'll give it to ACAMS, and let him deal with it..

...Bump...
ACAMS, should I just post (or have you post on GTM) the fix for this problem?  I gave it to CB for the 2.1 patch, but as you know, he's not been around....

Dark Rat, Nice to seee you back.... and thanks for giving a background.  ACAMS and Modder Ty are talking about another project like RA2, but starting from scratch with new physics engine.  Megabyte, eeffeemmee, and Goose were/are the main pegs.  I've been tweaking away at the python end of things to see what's possible, while waiting for it to get to that stage of development.  Still waiting....
ACAMS, seems that all the posts on my work and mods were taken off too.

Sorry, guys.  Still working on some new stuff (coding):  B-52 Bomber support, USS Enterprise Transporter support (Thanks ACAMS for the gmf), and Cruise missle support (with on-board CruiseCam) *he he*.
Really need some guys who are good with skins..... Don't have time to do that too.
Any help,....please let me know.

Inplabth,
You'll find tutorials specifically for AI-ing on the RFSHQ site and Beetle Bros site (DSL 2.0 AI Codes).  These will explain the basics and get you oriented.  Once you have a general idea of what's going on, then don't be afraid to (1)make a back up, and then (2)dive in and experiment.

Discussion / Need help for Teams
« on: April 09, 2007, 11:18:41 AM »
joelcool51,
I've tried to increase the number of user teams, but found that the infamous exe is not written to receive any more.
The only way I know of to make more teams available is to write a dos batch file that switches another 'set' (or couple sets) of teams with the original set.
I wrote a simple batch program for my own DSL-TC 2.0 that exchanges 2 sets of 16 teams. The only minor 'con' per say is that I quit the game before I switch sets of teams, which is really no big deal for me.
Having certain teams set up with specific bots is very convenient: You can keep certain 'kinds' of bots together without losing them in the Robot Design directory: Team1 is for checking out new bots;  Team2+Team3 are my Rammers; Teams 4-8 are spinners;........ Teams 20-24 are expeimental proto-typical 'beta' bots; Teams 25-32 are non-stock-componented bots. (I also wrote a program that gives me 45 AI teams to chose from, and can also battle in 'Events', greatly increasing the variety of opponents faced.... but that's some involved work.)
If you don't know how to write such a batch file yourself then I would help you with this if you want, though right now I am tight on time.
Hope this helps.  Let me know.

CB,
As mentioned above, here is the repaired Events.txt by itself (.rar file) for DSL2.  This will repair the Compressor and Ocean Platform Arenas for the in-game 'Events'.
I can't seem to get it to you via email intact so here it is.

In dissecting the Events.txt (described above) I thought that maybe I had repaired something in addition to it to get these arenas to work. But I did not think so. So to test, I downloaded a fresh(virgin) compressed DSL2 from DSL-TC three times, and just copied this txt. into the main directory and it worked every time,... and is still working.

The numbers were the problem. Might I suggest that you make sure that the rest of the info in these 2 particular arena events, in the Event.txt, is right and properly routed, the number of rounds, bots and sets of 'prize and corresponding textual response' count are correct? (check previous post above).  And also 'outside' the Events.txt, that the trophies and pics are right in label, size, and in there proper locations.  (Sometimes I change something trying to fix a problem and forget to put it back. And I would esp. never notice the change because it was already not working).

I tried to upload an .rar of a complete stock DSL2 program with 'working' Compressor and Ocean Platform Arenas, but it would not upload (too big?-179mb). I don't know the limit for this forum.
Is there another place to upload it? or do you want me to send you a cd?
But, the .txt should be enough. I and my sons have been using both those arenas in 'Events' for a couple months now.... , but if you need the whole program let me know how to get it to you.

I can see you're very busy with the tourneys (BTW, which is much appreciated).

Let me know about any problems.
Thanks,

Discussion / Junkyard Arena

Spyguy,
I have hacked into about everything in the game except the .exe. You can relocate hazards from one arena to another through the gmf and its python file.  I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for but I know many things can be done...... ie:
I have relocatd the Flamer torches, the Claws of clawtop arena, and several others objects into new or different arenas.  Move and/or re-sized objects in arenas, made 2-player arenas into 4-player (and put together a couple new hazards working with the gmfs and python files).

But I have found, as was mentioned, if you get to many things going at the same time 'lag' will creep in.

Yet with patience, and with time(which I seem to have so little of) many things can be done.  This is a liitle more than re-skinning, but I'm sure CB, ACAMS, Goose, Dark Rat, etc. will help if you want to try (and I offer to help too, if needed).

Site News and Feedback / GTM bot exchange *Public release*
« on: January 17, 2007, 03:05:24 PM »
Thanks for the info Goose.  I do greatly appreciate the amount of work you put into this bot exchange.  The reason I ask is- since I rarely get to play other Users head to head, I have had to develop some tough new AIs to go up against.  The challenge is fun.

I have tried some of the bots that I have downloaded from your site and many are pretty neat designs.  Maybe I will AI some of them for a challenge.

Again, thanks for your efforts . . .

Thanks.
(Clarification of toolatenobrainitis incoherent question I wrote last last night, fell asleep at the computer, and my wife entered this morning, before I woke up, to log on to her stuff):
Are there only User bots available to download, are there any AIs available? or way to make them available. (asking too much?)
If someone could downloads AIs into some kind of exchange, is there a way to get, or at least communicate what specs to use in, the 'Bindings.py' for these if already AI-ed? Surely it would save others from starting from scratch and manually duplicating the work, testing and tweaking already done.  And to get a nuance of the builder's idea concerning how the bot was supposed to function really helps when AI-ing.
I have several AIs I would like to upload (make available) if there's a way.  I think I am getting pretty good at AI-ing bots.  And from what I've read on these forums there are other AI-ers out there who would like to swap there menacing, tweaked out AIs.
So is there a way to trade AIs on this very neat robot exchange? or is there another place, or way to add this feature to bot trading???
I'm a little new at this trading bots online, so pardon my question if I sound ignorant, for I am.
Input is appreciated.
Thanks,
             Madiaba.

How do we submit bots to this exchange?

Thank you guys for your help.
Clickbeetle, I found a couple errors in the Ocean Platform and Compressor arenas and now have them working much better.  They no longer glitch at event start up with stagnant AI bots and/or a dark screen with only sound. If I can help please let me know.

I did want to throw out another question for some help;
Does anyone know what game file selects and matches weight classes for events and exhibition? (lightweight with lightweight, etc.)
I have gone through every Python file I could find and could not see (or recognize) it.

Thanks again,

Madiaba :)  (mod-ee-aba)

For whomever; I through investigation (foolin' around), discovered what some of purposes of these lines and numbers are:

Blade Tournament
This team…. <---------This is the in-game Event description.
2<---------------------------------------------------This is the number of rounds in the event
Arenas\event_results\prizes\Fruit_Punch\Fruit_Punch.gmf
You didn't win.
Arenas\event_results\prizes\Vacation_Photo\vacation_photo.gmf
Well, you made it past the first round.
Arenas\event_results\prizes\Spike_Trophy\Spike_Trophy.gmf
You won the event!
UI\teamhq\events\trophies\Spike Trophy.tga <-----This is a picture of the trophy for winning the entire event.
UI\teamhq\events\ev_blade.bmp <------------------This is the in-game event logo.
Combat Arena<------------------------------------This is the name of the arena in the corresponding py file (Thanks ClickBeetle)
Arenas\box\box_preview.bmp<---------------------This is the in-game event arena preview.
4<-----------------------------------------------------This is the number of bots in the event
1<-----------------------------------------------------Still don't know what these last two #s refer to?!?!
3<

A couple notes:
1:There is (and must be) a correlation between the number of bots in the event and the number of rounds in that event.  If there are 2 bots in the event then there must be 4 rounds; and if a 4 bot event then there must only be 2 rounds. Thus these two # slots must either be a 2 or 4 and never the same as the other.
2:The sets of 'prize' and corresponding 'textual response' count (ie.
Quote
Arenas\event_results\prizes\Fruit_Punch\Fruit_Punch.gmf
You didn't win
Arenas\event_results\prizes\Vacation_Photo\Vacation_photo.gmf
Well, you made it past the first round.
Arenas\event_results\prizes\Spike_Trophy\Spike_Trophy.gmf
You won the event!
)
must be the same as the number of rounds (to respond to a loss at each round), plus one more to (cover a win of the whole event). Thus there should be 3 sets for a 2-round event, and 5 for a 4-round event; in other words
-     all sets should 'en-prize' and 'describe' a potential event loss at each round,
-     except the last set that does the same for an event win (which can only occur after winning the final round).
(One could also just copy and paste this section from another 2 or 4 round event, and leave or change the 'prize' and corresponding 'textual response')
(PS: Shown above is a 2-round event).

Could someone please help me.
I am trying to make more '4-player' Events, but I do not know/understand some of the Events txt file formatting.

Does someone know to what these numbers refer:
     >>>the number just under Event's description
     >>>the three numbers at the bottom of each Event
-what are the for?
-what are they correlated to?
     >>>the arena name ('Combat Arena') does not correlate to the arena files in its 'Arenas' folder, nor any file within that folder, for they are all spelled differently.  Maybe a database file?.. or for a random generator reference?

Any help would sure be appreciated.
Thanks for your time,
Madiaba
