1. no, servos drain no battery power.

Yes, I understand a servo works with no batteries, but what really confuses me is when you build a bot with just a control board, a pink batt, and a servo, rotating the servo still depletes the green power bar when you test it...

6. it's the ESC key.

Yeah, that's what I thought at first; I guess it just doesn't do anything for me. (at least when I pressed Esc while spinning a Z-tek in the bot lab, nothing happened)

Discussion / Random (Stock) Questions
« on: April 23, 2011, 10:21:45 AM »
1. Do servo motors affect input/output rates of batteries, e.g. will I need a Nifty for 4 HP Z-teks but a Supervolt for 4 HP Z-teks and a servo?
2. Is double strength plastic/titanium/steel legal in tournaments/anywhere? (i.e. stealing a stock AI chassis and rebuilding it without changing the chassis)
3. Do burst motors drain more battery power depending on how big their swing arcs are?
4. Do Popups with razors just below the chassis have less launching power/damage potential than those with razors way below the top of the chassis?
Ex. as opposed to

I probably have more, but what they are escapes me at the moment.

Edit: 5. How do tournament hosts know if entrants have custom components or not, e.g. if I used iron spikes that were subtly better than usual ones on a bot, maybe 30% times stronger. (HYPOTHETICALLY)
6. Apparently there's a pause button in RA2? Because I have no idea what it is or what it does. (I think it's for the bot lab, rather than in matches)

Is this LOL at the 13:37 or the fact the razor repair is 13:38?
Both, of course.

Bug Bite has plastic. Dispite exposed extenders, He did not get even one ripped off when it fought Berzerker.
The extender is vulnerable to head-on frontal attacks, i.e. rammers, which you will see a lot of in an AW tournament. Spinners attack from the sides, so Berserker would have hit the razors rather than the extenders.

I'm assuming it has two pinks then, because Riptide from Starcore has the exact same components other than the razors (it has two extenders and three irons, but it still adds up to 34 kg like yours). If you haven't stacked a pink in there, shrink the chassis and do it. Your weapons will be a lot more powerful due to your improved drive and your power will last longer.

Eheh...

Eh...

(Image removed from quote.)

Eh.
That's the best team name ever.

One pink and DSA or two pinks and Plastic? (or just one pink and Plastic? I don't even know :P)

The middle extender seems exposed. You might want to consider attaching your razors like so:

(the razors seem too high because I accidentally raised the baseplate anchor :P)

...to protect the extenders better and to sneak in between other people's weapon racks which have been arranged like yours. I understand the wide weapon range, though, it's a 4-way rumble so you'd probably want better protection. Anyway if you do go with ^^^, it gives you 9 extra kg for another pink or possibly DSA if you have Plastic. If you stick with your current setup, try to get some razors rotated so that they are oriented the same way, that way they'll hit at the same time. (even if it's just the two razors on the ends)

(why am I giving advice?)

Someone please link this guy to the place where you download RA2 V1.4 Whilst I find Starcore 3.

EDIT: Starcore 3: http://www.starcore.gametechmods.com/download.php?id=StarcoreAIPackV3.rar&url=/
I'm guessing v1.4 = RA2 with AI parts unlocked?

Thanks for the link, but I could've just found both of those on the big buttons labelled "Downloads" and "AI Packs" on the GTM homepage. :P

Oh well, it's more convenient to find it here. :)

That looks seriously good for a newcomer. I can see you becoming a real strong builder pretty soon.
Yay I'm a good person. :P

If you go to Plastic and have a razor on the innermost attachment point, that should give you a bit more weaponry than a normal 6-mace HS, and I think they make a roughly straight line between them, so they should all hit the opponent at the same time, dealing more damage.
It becomes REALLY unstable then. As in it flies in the air and I can't drive at all. :P

Just one thing I would point out, if you have 8 or 7 maces on a tribar, it will be seriously unbalanced. 6 maces seems good at this stage, but attach them the "not cool" way, to save a bit of weight, and keep the extenders better protected.
Thanks, probably the best advice I've received so far.

DSA, and self-righteable...ish. idk, remains untested. I could give it Plastic and make the srimech extender longer....

Keep all of 'em! They all look good! If you are going to attach stuff in the "not cool way" still rotate them so they are paralle to the ground instead of  perpendicular to it.

What's different about it? I mean other than how it looks, e.g. does it protect the extenders better or something?

DP is double post. TP is triple post, etc.
Oh, okay. I thought it meant Don't Panic or something. xD

So are there any specific rules about double/triple/quadruple/etc. posting here? And how about swearing?

Type in the Quick reply to avoid that, I also have my posts glitch up if they are too huge in the reply page.
I LOVE YOU.

Wait...

...THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU. *throws holy water*

I made this little bugger in 2 hours. Motors attached to a servo or snapper spin faster, right?

Plastic and 8 Maces, attached the not-cool way where they don't hit at the same time.

But wait, maybe a DSA one with 9 Razors would be better?

Or is DSA with 6 Maces attached the cool way where they all hit at the same time better?

What if I keep the DSA but attach 7 Maces in the not-cool way...?

Maybe I should go back to Plastic and attach the Maces in the cool way?

Wat do? xD

NO ONE SHALL BE LEFT OUT.

Hey, the last two aren't too bad!

And since I didn't get chance to say it before, Welcome.

May I also add, badass name you got there. *bows*
*bows back* not sure if FOTEPX is just pure nonsense or an acronym though. xD
Thanks (to each line). Names that start with F are win. :P

Well at least you built up to the weight limit on your first bots :P

As for you new bot, looks very nice and actually looks like one of my first bots.

Only thing I suggest is maybe get rid of a couple of razors and get a black or something else, but it really is fine as is. Good job and stick around, you've already impressed me.
Thanks! So would it be a good thing if I'm following in your footsteps? :o

That actually doesn't look too bad, I reckon. I think if your MW and HW bots are of a similar standard, you might be able to hold your ground in Starcore V1.
Just v1? D: That's depressing.

loljk, yeah I need to start building in other weight classes if I want to become a decent bot builder. I've heard the Starcore AI packs are really good for testing your bots so I guess I'll try them out soon.

Welcome to forums Fracture! :welcome
Wow you guys have a smiley for everything, don't you?

I lol-ed at the first bot.  XD

Welcome to the forums :D

You improvements look good so far.  Hope to see more of your bots.

SHUT UP IT BEAT EMERGENCY AFTER 8 TRIES >:O (that was my biggest achievement back then, lol)

Nice bot there, excellent for a first showcased bot.
You do really need the snapper II at the very least though, in heavier bots they are VERY usefull.
I'd also highly recomend you do get DSL aswell, it's teh boss.
Yeah, it's like that feeling when you have a buttload of homework to do...sometimes you just keep playing RA2 or something else, because you're either too lazy and/or you're kind of scared of doing all of it, in a way. I'll get to it sooner or later.

I'm also happy to hear you speak Chinese, is the dialect Mandarin?
Yayuhzz.

That popup is awesome, better than any of my Stock popups for sure. Welcome to the forums.
Thanks!

I never thought about making the chassis T-Shaped in a LW pop-up. Though it is less powerful than a DDT and regular z-teks are overkill for drive on LW. Use RedBirds or RADs and try to fit a DDT and it would be a pretty good pop-up.
Blehh I don't wanna waste 14 extra kg on a black.

:welcome
(see reply 6 quotes up)

The first one looks like Omnivore's slightly stupid and overweight cousin. :P

I'm lovin the LW popup though.
lul, though I don't know what Omnivore looks like.

Thanks for your support on the Popup. :)

Wow I regret typing this tediously long post now. The posting box keep messing up and randomly scrolling up so I can barely see what I'm typing. >_<

Question: What's with the "DP!" in like every single showcase I look in?

Hey guys, I guess this is my real introductory post - I made a topic in the new member welcome forum but then I found out no one will see it unless they only have 1 post or are logged out...anyway I'll just quote my post from there.

Hello GTM and all the users here! I literally just joined the forums about 10 minutes ago, and I guess you'll be calling me Fracture from now on. Here's some stuff about me:

  • I got interested in robot combat at about 8 years of age when watching Robot Wars. My favourite bot was Dominator 2, and my least favourite was Pussycat; I think Pussycat just randomly beat Dominator once or something and that's why I didn't like it. Nowadays I don't watch it, and there's really no favourites for me.
  • I first got Robot Wars: Extreme Destruction for the PC because it seemed like a good game. Later I found Robot Arena 2, which seems a lot better, and realistic.
  • I'm from Canada, so don't start raging at me if I say centre instead of center or colour instead of color. :P
  • I've been playing RA2 for about half a year now, probably less. I started about a year ago but obviously I haven't been playing full time since then. At the moment I play about 5-30 minutes of RA2 per day, which I'm not sure would count as just right or lower than average.
  • So far I've only built Stock and I'm not bad at it, if I may say so myself. Really, I've been looking at some bots here so I know what level I'm at. I think I'd like DSL very much if I tried it, but I'm weird and won't. Dunno if I'm just lazy, scared, or whatever.
  • I'm also weird because I don't use AI parts. Yeah, kinda puts a damper on my building without the Snapper II, but whatever. Same reasons as for why I haven't tried DSL.
  • Again, also weird because I'm still staying in my little corner of building LWs and occasionally AWs. No HWs or MWs that I've actually worked hard on so far. Less options means less likely to build a bad robot, right? Also it doesn't take as long. :P

Anyway at this point I'm not sure how dead or alive this forum is, but hopefully I can get some good criticism in my showcase so I can become a better builder. I've been on a few other forums, but holy crap there's a lot of posting features here. I'm talking marquees, smileys, spoilers, insert FLASH?! And a BUNCH of profile customization too; I'm just used to an avatar and a signature.  :rage Also I have no idea what reputation is.

Anyway I guess I'll see you guys on the rest of the forums, it seems pretty friendly here! (I kinda want the post verification to go away though T_T)

So, I guess this is the part where I post my bots?

Just some pics of two previous bots I made a long time ago to show my progress...

Because N12s are were the bomb. I just felt like showing you that. Now for my first ever real showcased bot...I bet I'll look back on this in a few months and think "Wow, I really sucked back then."

It's very efficient: 200/1.6 + 100 +100 = 325, enough to be powered by a Nifty. A DDT, however, would make the total power output have to be 512.5, a Supervolt. (and kind of a waste even then)

Yes, the razors all hit at the same time.

Yes, the wedge is below the wheels.

Yes, the razors start below the top of the chassis.

Yes, it has DSA.

Yes, it can self-right.

Comments? Anything about my level in terms of AI packs? I'm not sure if I should shorten the wedge, to protect the extender, but making it less effective. The wedge blocks most frontal attacks though, so the only thing I can imagine hitting that extender would be a very well placed hammer shot. (whether it be side or vertical)

Sorry there's no epic battleshots of me beating Starcore bots or something. I'm still on RFS AI v1.5; it's too easy but I love the teams and bot names.

I guess if you really feel the need to see the New members welcome forum you can just sign out and view it as a Guest. (and post too)

since you can't see the junkyard until you enable it,

Don't tempt me!

Oh wait, too late... :o

Welcome Fracture : )

Thanks, Kujii. :)

Erm, what's the point of me creating an introductory thread if I can't see the forum though? And no one can post in it? Will it appear in "Show new replies to your posts" or something?

1615
Welcome to the forums, and one more post will make the verification to go away and you will become AntWeight.
Also, you will no longer be able to see this section because it was filling with chatter instead of welcome to new members.

That's what ACAMS says, at least. Ironically enough it was in the New member welcome forum. :P
