These are great.  Nice job.
Are you guys going to put them out in a User or an AI pack?

Looks nice, SD.  Can't wait to see it in a tourney.
It may be on top of a HS before it can spin up...

Thanks, Nar. I'd already talked with him.
And I would like it to happen too.

Wow. That's nice.  Looks genuine.
Can't you invert that Fisher logo (by itself)?

Well I like all of them, but the 'Rippled Silver' one looks like Stainless steel and very realistic. Cool.
I was wondering Sage, if you could make one look like a stock yellow Fisher snow plow, with a black ink blot. You're in Minn. so I'm sure you know what I mean... Just a thought.

Lupus: Well, AI can be specifically coded (AI.py) to back away from a certain bot (an enemy) or a certain location (the center pit). And the arena your describing (2 sides with pit in middle) sounds like a fairly easy arena to build. I don't know CB's schedule (I think he's busy too), but if I get time in the next couple weeks I'll show you some basic stuff for orientation. You should understand and practice manipulating/altering GMFs.
You might start with decompiling, altering, and compiling single object components (as CB mentioned).
Some others that also might help you are Dark Rat, Goose, [MIAs lately], Trov, 70cuda, and Sage are learning gmf stuff quickly.

It's really fun once you get oriented,... and there's not much you can't do if you really want to...

But how could you change all the names in the dropdown folder?
[/COLOR]

Once you have the cfz decompiled back into txts:
We'll use the Round Extender.

Just change 2 things:
1. Change the skin itself (easy).
2. Edit each component's txt:

   a) For the default component (the one you first see in the displayed row of components in the BotLab), open the txt of that component and look for
"name = Round Extender".
Whatever you write in the place of 'Round Extender' will be what you see displayed as its name, in-game.
Then you can also change the Description:
"description = Standard round extender. Available in..."
Edit the orange here too and this description can be much longer...
That's all for the default component.

   b) For the 'Styles' (drop-down menu items), if you look at the section in the default txt, there is a line called
styles = …..”
Following this, you’ll see a list of components and their sizes.
"20 cm, extender2.txt, 40 cm, extender3.txt, 60 cm, …..”,
The first is the default component’s size
20 cm”.
All thereafter are the ‘Styles’ (drop-down menu) items and their sizes that follow.
...., extender2.txt, 40 cm, extender3.txt, 60 cm, …..”,
Just change these to whatever you want (but it must be short).

Hope this helps,.. make a back up always... and it's not as hard as it might seem, ask Sage. If you've more questions feel free to ask.
(The 'Styles' folder is in the main Components directory.)

CB, Maybe there could be something written up on the 'Basics of Making Arenas'.  And then 'wiki' it and also post it on your site, if you like.  My schedule is not real conducive to such an endeavor, solo, but I can contribute to a collaborative effort.  We cannot explain all basic details, so there would have to be prerequisites like understanding GMFs, Skinning and maybe a little Python.  With those as givens, a short synopsis could be written out to guide those interested through the "Basics of Arena construction".

BTW. I'm waiting to get some notes from Trov., to add to the py reference sheet we discussed; for this would be just as useful as the above, IMHO.

Nar, Yes the ball has mass (i.e. weight) or it could/would not move at all.

You also could do these Z-teks a gem (or other) color,...and/or in 'semi-transparent'....  It would be interesting to see and might look really cool.

Nice bot and maces.  Maybe it could be called:
"Emaciator" or "E-maciator"..
"En-maciated".

For any one interested, there are some posted vids of some tweaks and new stuff above. There are other things that are not videoed yet, but may be added as time permits.
I'd also like to know which of these things you like best, so if you'd like please do comment here or PM me....

Yea, RS.  Can you make a small vid so we can see it in action?
I'd like to see how the weapons work; and how it navigates, cause the computer uses the chassis for its heading reference.  But it looks like the chassis would be spinning with it's spikes flying...
Cool bot.

Nice motors, Sage.

Sage, to test skin location on components, I just put numbers (1-10) in an orderly fashion covering all of the skin. Then in-game, I look at the desired location to see which number(s) is/are there. Then you know 'generally' where to place/do your editting...

@mad: ill talk with you later about it. just know its not that simple...

I did this to the extenders in my stock and DSL to make rotating easier. It will work OK.

(EDIT: Also check the GMF's method of wrapping the skin... SAT, Pyramidal,...  If you get stuck let me know.)

This extender marking is a good idea. I think it would make a good addition to the 2.1 patch, since it affects nothing at all, and makes rotating much easier....

Well, several have asked me for components, arenas, AI, vids and other stuff that were mysteriously wiped out on the dysfunctional Atari forum. Don't have that much time to be finding and putting together files, so I'll do things once here. I don't have all of it saved, but I'll post what I can get up as time permits, for whomever is interested. I'll try to put it all on this first page....

I'll start making more available as I run across them...

Trovaner's Edit: I fixed all the video links and download links that I could. I also added spoilers so that all the videos don't download at once.

Cool and potent looking.

Discussion / Walker
« on: June 17, 2008, 07:07:33 AM »
I see you used solid supports instead of a hover engine to assist supporting it's own weight for walking.  Pretty cool, SD.  Although it's not specifically for walkers, I wrote an AI.py that will automate your bot's steps.  Because it's not written for walkers it will work but is a little crude and could use editting work to refine it for such.  If you'd like to look at it let me know.
