Nerec - Flipper with spinning discs. Are hybrids allowed? Guess so.

Lol it doesn't have a flipper or spinning discs.

I worked it out.

TAN won 67% of its victories by pitting the opposing machine. (Note: I did not include the defeat of BOD in Round 1 because Roboshark Robochicken immobilised it, TAN did nothing) (If that was included the rate goes to 57%)

Just for reference:

Panic Attack won 60% of its victories by pitting the opponents (Note: I did not include pittings of Firestorm, Bigger Brother and Cerberus and non-pittings of Fighting Torque, Steel Avenger, ROCS or Terror Turtle because other robots pitted/immobilised the aforementioned ones in multi-bot battles) (If those were included the rate goes to 57%)

Crushtacean won 57% of its victories by pitting the opponents (Note: I did not include Mr Nasty's or Dr Fist's immobilisations, as they immobilised themselves, or Terror Turtle's as Killalot overturned it) (If those were included the rate goes to 40%)

Narrow margins between PA and TAN, especially if all fights are included.

I agree that it was a very well-engineered robot, and a great piece of design, but it could have put on a better show during its matches, rather than the clamp-and-pit tactics.

Why though? The aim was to win, not pander to audience hopings for 'exciting battles'.

Oddly, Crushtacean used broadly similar tactics, why has no-one been going on about that one?

You make a very valid point there NFX.

JUST PUTTING THIS OUT THERE, but Tough As Nails is my favourite robot of all time. It's absolutely beautifully designed and I loved watching it in action. And it looked really, really cool.

it's someones time of the month

Thanks Haz, I just spat coffee on my computer screen laughing at that one.... :S
sorry about your coffe bro, i'll buy you another some time.

on another note, i don't really like many american robots, the seem a bit samey

lol ok. Yes I agree about that, the only really innovative robots were Nightmare (HUGE DISC), Warhead (although British), Run Amok (for it's epicness) and Diesector (for its epic clamp)

How many bots have you looked at?

Vlad The Impaler had the first Self-Righting Mechanism, IIRC. It used a pneumatic piston to kick itself back over onto its wheels after Biohazard had overturned it. It didn't win, though, but I'd still say that quantifies innovation.

Biohazard selfrighted first.
