Contests / Re: BOTM March 2010« on: February 05, 2010, 05:53:56 PM »I can make the uploader upload just .jpg and .png, but I do it like that so people will remember to name the file, or include a txt with their name. If I allow images, 90% of my entries would be screenshot.jpg and badassbot.png, then I would not know who did it. What about adding a <input type="text" name="user" /> and code up the script so that the file is renamed to the name provided in the upload form? Or you just can't be arsed? :P 1525
Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Windows 7 vs XP« on: February 05, 2010, 12:33:59 PM »Thanks Serge, are these all free normally or are some torrented? Free as in free to download from their official website for no monies. Yes, legally. 1526
Contests / Re: BOTM March 2010« on: February 05, 2010, 11:36:59 AM »#5 - Make a splash, zip it and upload it (Be sure to include your name so I will know who made it) But... but... zipping a PNG has no sense, it's archived as far as it's possible, even more than zipping a raw .bmp .

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Windows 7 vs XP« on: February 05, 2010, 11:29:19 AM »In 3-8 Business days, I will be the proud owner of my first ever computer. Awesome! Some tips to get you started (all of the following applications are free, most of them are also open-source): Antivirus: Ditch the included McAfee / Symantec you'll get. They're RAM hogs, you will hate them. Instead use a free antivirus suite. My favourites are MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials, it's on Microsoft's website. Awesome antivirus, little to no RAM use) and Avast! Home Edition (download from their home page, requires free registration. good antivirus, little to no memory usage). Anti-spyware: Malwarebytes' AntiMalware. It's astonishingly good. Web Browser: If you must use IE, update to the latest version. Otherwise, use Firefox or Chrome, the latter being newer but also faster. It's your choice, but I would advise Chrome. Music Player: I like foobar2000. It does only what it should do (music playback) and it does it very well. It's fast, has tons of plugins if you need added functionality, and best of all, it's one of the few players that support 16-bit DAC's, comapared to the usual 12-bit. Give it a shot, you'll love it. Video Player: VLC (Videolan Client, don't get confused by the name). Instead of downloading a crapton of codecs form shady websites, this little puppy supports all of the out of the box. It's based on the excellent open-source decoder ffmpeg, which the msot widely used decoder in the Linux world. It will play any format you throw at it, even the most obscure ones. IM: If you use more than one protocol (eg. MSN and AIM), try Pidgin. It's an IM client that supports most (if not all) popular protocols like MSN, AIM, ICQ, IRC and allows you to use them in one program. It's very light and ad-free. P2P: If you use torrents, the uTorrent. It's small, powerful and FAST. Switching to it from other software (like Vuze) is a huge difference. CD/DVD burning: If you just want to burn ISO files, get ImgBurn. It reads most file formats and it's open-source. If you want to burn data and/or music, get DeepBurner Free. It does what it does perfectly and doesn't clog your computer like Nero. Archiving utility: Forget WinRAR, use 7-zip. It supports WAY more file formats, and it's native format (.7z) is a LOT better than anything else. If you have a multi-core processor you will notice the speed increase. After installing, run the 7-zip File Manager, go to Tools->Options and associate it with all the archive file formats. Text editor: If you edit RA2 .py files, get Notepad++. Syntax highlighting, regexp, searching through files... Awesomeness. BTW, if you don't wanna install all of these by hand, use http://ninite.com/ . It's a website where you select all the common software you install on a new computer, and it spits you out an executable that downloads and installs all the software for you. 1528

Yes, provided your compute will handle all the physics collisions. I am working on making this more-or-less stable.

Aye. Component pack, maybe some arenas, etc. To turn RA2 into a silly-looking, LEGO robot battle game. Why? Because I can. ^^
What I meant, is if you have any ideas for weapons (made out of LEGOs, of course), don't hesitate to sketch them up / make them in LEGO Digital Designer. I need ideas! :D 1534

Hey guys,
I noticed since you're all so into LDD (and I love my Mindstorms),I'd make a component pack for Antwieghts (or even lighter), based on LEGO components. I need your help with deciding what parts to model. I already am working on making most of the wheels and electric motors, but I need help with extenders or weapons. They probably won't be single bricks, so if you were so kind as to make some models in LDD and send me screenshots / files (if I ever get myself to download LDD), I'd be really grateful. Of course, you will be credited. We are working in the "Old Technic" scale, it means that this motor is going to be the most common one, so the most common wheels are going to be more-or-less 6-7 studs in diameter. 1535

Computer-aided DESIGN. When you design something, it's rarely for the lulz, more often you use that design to build something.
Drawing up a square and putting a few colours here and there isn't really something that is realistic or helpful in building a machine afterwards. 1536

I was politely and discretely pointing out to Sparkey that this plugin is for WordPress and not SMF, while also expressing my disdain towards his illiteracy.
