Robosh4rk did great with Shrzak and I have learned my lesson in the fine tuning of Fury.

I had pointed the secondary maces straight down to give a better sweep distance for hitting bots that try to get below.

Unfortunately that left Fury's weapon extenders  vulnerable to matching styles of HS bots.

Presenting the latest update to the Fury line of bots:

With great effort the body has been shrunk to 27.9kg (still with DSA).

I did trim off the 2nd Snowplow and the Caster Armor.

The weight savings allowed me to increase from 12 to 15 Mace heads all in horizontal alignment to protect their weapon extenders.

(Image removed from quote.)

Anyone up for a rematch? ;)

In testings against the Fury I used for this competition, the new Fury consistently trashed the older Fury with little or no damage to itself and generally 4000 more points of damage to boot before reducing the prior Fury to a pile of parts and a smashed up little box.

The Old Fury is Dead! Long Live Fury!

PS - Pwnator, the new Fury is a rather tight construction and may be a challenge to replicate as a MW. If anyone wants to try fighting him I can make arrangements to upload the Bot. It is a drop in replacement to the current Fury in the Starcore 3 or 4a AI packs.

My thought is if there is a Win:Loss tie just have the 2 or more bots battle it out as a finals Tie-breaker.

A tourney is to find the best under a set of criteria.

That I know of this still does that and upsets still happen. Since it is still battles and the battles have winners.

Not sure what you are complaining about except that maybe you like to have the lesser bot win a tourney by upset?

I did a system similar to this for Beetleweights for the Starcore packs. Top entries got included in the pack based on their win:loss ratio.

You mention that it would be more matches and be painful as a result.

Something to consider: Do each match-up as a 1 match winner takes all for that match versus the potential 3 matches of a best 2 out of 3 in other tourneys. Since the tourney winner would be based on overall Win:Loss Ratio with a set of Finals matches for Top Ties you could have quite a bit less effort then initial feelings.

Also I would suggest run a bot against all its foes for that "Row" and then do a highlights video of that bot and and show its final Win:Loss Ratio. Done well people would love to have the video of how their bot did against others. Maybe a Wins Video and a Loss Video for that bot so the owner could 'remember' the wins...

Would not need to do a Losers Bracket this way either.

You would also see how each bot does against a wide variety of foes. It can be quite frustrating to have your bot go against its design nemesis early on when you know it would have defeated most other types of bots if given a chance.

In my experience it can be quite a bit faster if you hold 1 bot in (for example the left slot) and have all the foes it faces switched out in the right slot. Recording each. You slide through all the matches of that bot. Statistically each bot would be in left and right an equal amount of times and face each foe from both positions. Facing each foe twice (once in its 'row' and once as the 'opponent' for the other bot's 'row').

I have done this, think about doing it, it has alot to offer for showing off the over all strength of a bot design...

I didn't mention before because I too was willing to have him give it a try. And in seeing it for the 1st and 2nd match its too short and I don't like it.

He also didn't mention in the rules that it would be 4 way matches. So that is 4 bots in only 1 minute. Does that feel right to you? Now with Warmachine I can sometimes get 2 second kills but even heavy weights it is often not decided in the 1st minute.

Also remember that in the past many Ant Weights used plastic armor but now DSA for Antweights is much more common. Much tougher shell need longer to see who will win. I know Triceratops has DSA and I am sure most the rest do too.

I am voicing my concern that 1 minute tourneys are a bad idea in the future. Even worse for 4 way matches. Triply worse for only 1 match, winner advances (also not mentioned), thats the end of that.

It will be the main negative point of this tournament. That the matches were too short. I am sure Jonzu95 is feeling the same way.

I have tried to help shape in good directions in the years of being involved with RA2. One minute 4-way matches with one chance to advance is not a good direction.

I am going to really grow to hate the 1 minute time limit. A fun battle that just needed to play out.

I admit I built a fighter that would happily break off the parts of the opponents and crack their shell.

One minute time limits will give advantage to pusher/grinders and clinch encounters.

But such is life,

I played with the idea long ago. Easiest way I came up with was to offset the drive wheels just a touch so that as it charged at a foe it would be off by a few degrees, miss them and swerve around and try again.

Since the 2nd pass was generaly closer, the angle of attack was smaller and it was able to hit from back or side (depending on how fast the other bot could turn around).

Issues of the other bot just needing to turn around, HS bots that could attack in all directions and yes hitting the arena wall as part of the charge, turn and charge again attack style all reduced effectiveness of the idea.

I too admit I am a fan of showing controlled movement.

I like the test of put bot in question in tournament area being used with an immobile opponent and the bot that is being tested has to find the other before they get counted out. I understand there are variations of this theme like Sit and Spins that approach to a given radius and start spinning but at least with them you can see they can approach and just switch to spin tactics when they get relatively close.

As needed, I am fine with one wheel bots that are actually AIed to handle being one wheeled. But claiming it could be AIed to have controlled movement and actually doing so is two different things.

And yes I will complain when I see bots that don't have controlled movement (I have tried to teach better then that). We all know that fudging that limit is just to get a damage advantage and planning on the other bot to come to you. A rather lame decision.

Exuse me, but my match is not even 1 full round? The vid is only 1:29 and the first round does not even finish.

I noticed that too. Would like to see the rest of the 2 rounds.

Alot of the fun of being in an AI tourny is seeing your bot battle and watching for how you can improve.

Here is to hoping the rest of the video will be posted/updated.

Roboshark HS destroyed Starcore after some close matches

And I am glad to watch Fury rend and tear its way up from the very depths of heck itself.

Yeah my bot tends to explode if spinners like to pretend VS.

Does 1 razor make much of a difference? Talking about Robo vs Starcore... I want Robo to win since he doesn't have castor armour for my next fight.

You got your wish. Though I do not think the razor made the difference. More the difference of the random order that some of the weapons got knocked off.

Designing for a range of foes is always a balancing act. I took the trade off of more defense out front and caster armor below for Fury over having a Weapon Breaker sticking out front. I also chose to have the 2nd Maces on each arm pointed straight down to give a greater width to the tri bar weapon hits to better hit low sloping chassis. Robo had his lower Maces at roughly a 45 degree angle. Reducing sweep width but possibly better protecting the extender against other HS of similar designs.

Great fighting to be had Robo!

The Maces reach lower then the dual Iron Spikes so better able to connect with various chassis types and rip off weapons.

The dual Snow Plows gives much higher front protection.

The way I mounted the maces will rip off more than an equal amount of iron spikes every time. (The new Fury beats the old Fury every time)

And it does have Caster Armor ;)

Doomkiller has taken the time to update the splash page to show that you are not fighting the Fury from Starcore V4 Alpha (that many have practiced against). That you are instead fighting the new and improved for 2009 Fury.

For the original splash page I sent the older Fury and arranged for the newer Fury to be actually used. I am in the special position of you all get to test against my bots many times over.

As shown by quotes like this:

Quote from: System32;58755

Starcore: Nice, too bad we've had plenty of time to beat it.

and this...

Quote from: Pwnator;58760

SC: Most of us built our bots specifically to beat this.

So thought it would be fun for everyone to expect an old design and get a new fresh version.

Hopefully you like that I am continuing to update and improve...

For the issue/test of controlled movement I would suggest do an AI battle of the bot in question and a bot with no motive ability/power (nobrain.py is a good AI for this) in your chosen arena.

If the bot you are testing is able to collide/hit the nobrain bot before it is counted out as immobized then you have at least limited controlled movement.

we need more videos

1 match video a day and this tournament will take about 2 months.

1 match video a week and we are talking over a year.

Doing great running the matches just probably need to pick up the pace.

I see my name listed as backup. Glad to be such. Let me know if and when you need me to send a bot in.
